Laying stress on the upper classes of Western Europe until from the seventeenth to the eighteenth century, the chinese mode in the fields of architecture, interior design and fashion was widely liked. It is called as ‘chinoiserie’into the French language. The chinese design with its quantity and ornamentation exerted an influence upon‘Rococo’in France and upon ‘Chippendale’ in England. The chinese mode that was made best use of the furniture design is the one of Ming dynasty. This was developed in relation to the interior design of ‘Siheyuan’ that is the architectural mode in those days. The furnitures at the times of Ming dynasty was raised to the position of the golden era in the history of chinese furnitures. The furniture has the technique laying stress on symmetrical proportion, simplicity. This technique showed as the formative modeling. also on the part of decoration ornamental designs showing the china ideology of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism it was used. In this formative modeling the ideological background of those days forms the groundwork. The combination of reason and sentiment and of heart and mind emphasizes that our emotion should be in control by the ration and our emotion and ration should be harmonized.

The plastic furniture made of new materials has enriched and broadened our everyday life not only through development of manufacture but also through consumptions since 1960′s. In relation as well to the need of reducing energy consumption and contributing to environment, the weight of plastic materials has raised concerns in recently. It should be pointed out that development of design technology, which would be risky to develop these synthetic materials was the strategic foundation of Kartell of which principal know-how with plastic techniques. Our rapidly changing lifestyle demands a new design that meet recognition of inflection. In conclusion as we are preparing to enter into the 21st Century, we should go forward with hope and do so with dispatch-dazzling all of us with boldness, thinking imaginatively, transform indifference into action, moving things to the next level in furniture industries, asking the "historic background of designing in plastic seat furniture" questions, challenging the very examples of the past in Kartell, Italy. From this study we have found that it would be useful to understand that the development of technological plastic materials for seat furniture has enabled designers to create ore and more sophisticated design in our millennium life.

This study was conducted to develop a prototype of adjustable desk and chair for students from elementary to high school. The development process started with identifying the problems of existing adjustable desks and chairs that are currently available in the market. The following fundamental design criteria were established and then applied to develop the prototype. The criterion of minimization of production cost yielding lower the market selling price was the most critically considered in view of the school furniture buyers' price-consciousness. Other design criteria used in this development were designing for stable and solid structure, requiring few motions and no tools to adjust, requiring the use of only one hand to adjust, unrestricting the adjustable interval, providing extra space for foot and knee area, reducing weight to move easily, and requiring not to move around for cleaning up floor. To evaluate the performance of the prototype, the adjustability of prototype was specifically compared with both dimensions suggested by KS G 2010(Korean Standards for desks and chairs for students) and current anthropometric dimension in terms of the flexible range of accommodation. Results of this study illustrate that the prototype developed in this study could be accommodated for the both dimensions. As a concluding mark, appropriate adjustable range for various grades and age groups were presented.

This research is intended to study literatures relating to western rocking chairs style in early 20th century in order to provide basic data of designs for rockers of today in Korea and investigate characteristics of rocking chair from academic, formative and pragmatic perspectives. During the first half of 20th century, western rocking chairs (1925~1945) embodied actively the simple functionalism concept that furniture design must follow functionality considerations. Therefore, bare wood rocking chairs were without any surface decoration and tubular steel frame rocking chairs often included black leather upholstery in a bold attempt to express exposed structure. And the fact that tubular steel produced such lightweight furniture was crucial importance. Many Modernist designer created curvaceous lines of new pattern changes in their furniture. The structure of Modern rocking chair became all-important, for stylistic as well as functional reasons. Designers equated exposed structure of tubular steel and wooden frame with integrity and rationality and create an equalitarian style of design. Especially, designers in the early 20th century did use various brilliantly colored upholstery and wooden frame with simple forms of modern characteristics.

A chair is a necessary tool in modern life and people spend a lot of time on it. But there Ere so many chairs which the human body size Is not considered that many users usually feel fatigue. The purpose of this study is to analyze the fundamental items human factors engineering which have to be applied to chairs and then to make user choose chairs, considering them as an index. The extent of this study is limited to chairs for office work used for sitting for a long time to work. We also profoundly analyze functional matters of chairs, user's posture and so on. We'll present all suitable factors and the assumed tentative plan by inferring items', the function chairs have coincides with the human body.

Due to the industrial development some scholars insist that homo sapiens has become a new race--homo sedens. Since this great degree of behavioral change often cause problems in the spinal column, the appropriate sitting became critical. The nineteenth-century idea of sitting upright position is not considered as a proper sitting any longer. Recent studies by such psychological scientists as A. C. Mandal, Ernest McCormick, and Karl Kroemer show that the spinal column in s-curve with forward bends should be efficiently supported in that manner. Designing a chair sometimes focuses on aesthetic points rather than true ergonomic considerations. Therefore, these result in deleterious effects on human bodies such as lordosis and kyphosis. In fact, it has been overlooked due to the lack of technical and scientific supports. Also, in a mass production, it is hard to meet everyone's need. However, the well adapted ergonomic considerations should meet the needs for wide ranges of people. Indeed, in this study we will examine designing chairs in ergonomic perspectives and suggest additional controversial points and alternatives.

This study was carried out for the purpose of analysis correlations between street furniture design elements and preference of street furniture. This research analyzed the various street furniture set on Ilsan new town street, which are rest, hygiene, light, information, sale, traffic, and landscape. This study has processed by analysing street furniture literature investigation and consideration of theory. First, for analysed effect of street furniture element, has been appear as element 'relaxation facilities', 'information facilities', landscape facilities' mainly effect on street. Specially, 'rest', 'landscape', 'information' in order had a major influence on scenery. Each kind of 'chair elements' in rest facilities, 'sign board' in information facilities, 'sculpture', 'fountain' in 'landscape facilities' has analyzed as the main elements in the landscape affinity property affecting factor. Second, the results of analyzed landscape elements (shape, colour, texture, scale) affect to the affinity of street furniture. chair which are included in rest facilities affect "texture", "form", "scale", "color" in the order of preference of the molding design elements that influence landscape. Particularly, showed statistically significant on 'colour' element affecting the landscape preference than the other three elements. It means as the chair element which is rest facilities mainly affect on preferences, rather than texture, form, scale, colour. Monument in the landscape associated with a preference 'colour', 'shape', 'texture' 'scale' and appears to be in order of impact so we could get the consequence like chair and rest facilities show different aspects of the respectively. It means, visual element which are colour and shape significantly impact on landscape preferences. Third, information facilities such as signboard formative elements of landscape design preferences and correlation with negative showed that the correlation. That mean if the sign board is very negative influence on landscape preferences and the correlations of the design formative elements appear in order of 'scale', 'colour', 'texture'. It also means that the 'scale' namely the size of advertising material and colour are adversely affected in terms of landscape. As these results, when design street furniture as the street scenery, facilities according to the kind of the shape element and need to focus on relative shape element according to the kind of facilities difference. Finally, so far as to clarify the street furniture, mainly 'function' and 'system' classification shows undesirable in outdoor scape. Thus, performed studies in relationship with landscape, classify 'kind of facilities' is more desirable than 'system'.

In this paper, the origin, development and features of a Korean folding stool are studied. A folding stool is a piece of collapsible seating furniture with its legs crossed in the form of the letter "X" and no back attached. In China, the folding stool was introduced from the West around the second century A.D. The folding stool of Korea was influenced by that of China. It is known from the records that the king used the folding stool from the Three Kingdom period. During the Koryo period, Chosun period and the modern period, the folding stool was used to show the authority of the king and nobleman. The folding stool was also used at outside places such as a hunting ground, a ceremonial walk, a battlefield, a garden etc. due to its portableness. Buddha worship policy of Koryo period supported the usage of the folding stool for shanding (禪定) by ascetics of Buddhist temple, or aristocrats. In a contemporary period, the folding stool is continuously produced and used as one kind of a folding chair due to its functionality, movability, storability and efficient space utilization. This research will serve as a momentum to investigate the origin and development of the East Asian seating furniture culture, and contribute to the further study and manufacturing of Korean seating furniture.

This study was carried out for the Centum Shinsegae Department Store, to grasp the indoor rest space and furniture design status, this study analyzes the characteristics of visitors' use behavior centered on furniture. The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for commercial rest space design by understanding the characteristics of resting space in commercial space and whether the furniture can support the behavior of visitors. The research method is to carry out on-site inspection, including the location of the rest space on each floor, the type and design characteristics of the furniture design, and the characteristics and patterns of the users on each were analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. As a result of analyzing the rest space and furniture, the furniture is brown, it has been provided with various designs such as fan-shaped, arched bench, sofa, chair type, and comfortable colors of lightness ranging from light gray to black, and appropriately supported the most common usage patterns.However, in the case of Shinsegae Department Store, it is necessary to consider the safety and convenience of the vulnerable groups.

One of the major changes in the information era is that the concept of workplace is changing, Therefore this research is to provide basic data for future home office design by surveying office workers's opinions about preferred design for home office. This research is based on a survey of 215 office workers in Seoul. The major findings are ; Office workers prefer an isolated type of workplace that is arranged by U-shped workstation at home. Office workers preferred ivory color of walls and ceiling in home office, Brown color for the floor and brown ivory beige green and grey colors are preferred for the furniture. For home office furniture office workers put to an importance on desk chair computer table cabinet filbox sofa mobil lack credenza, and tea table.
