  • It is well-known that lifting capacity of a worker is influenced by body posture during the task. When a task analyst make use of RULA and REBA Trunk and upper arm angles are recorded in a separate item. It means that the interaction between the angles of two body segments may be ignored in a final score. The NLE(NIOSH Lifting Equation) has been used to supplement this problem. However, there is no study to validate the result of RWL (Recommended Workload Limit) under the existence of interactions between trunk and upper arm angles. The goal of this study was to assess the effect of the interaction between trunk and upper arm angles. Three responses, including NMVC(normalized maximum voluntary contraction), RWL(Recommended Weight Limit) and subjective judgment in psychophysical method (Borg's scale), were recorded according to the combinations of three trunk angles and nine upper arm angles. The results showed that lifting capacity is highly influenced by interaction of two body segments(trunk and upper arm). It means that the task workload has to be analyzed along with the interaction of trunk angles and upper arm angles when the task analyst assesses potential risk factors on the postures. This study may be able to be a fundamental study to develop an assessment method for lifting task analyses according to body postures.

  • The occurrence of an inclined edge crack in transversely piezoelectric material is analyzed. Concentrated antiplane mechanical and inplane electrical loads are applied at the boundary and crack surface, respectively. The crack surfaces are assumed to be impermeable to the electric field. Using the Mellin transform with the introduction of a generalized displacement vector, the problem is formulated, and the Wiener-Hopf equation is derived. By solving the equation, the solution is obtained in a closed form. The intensity factors of the stress, the electric displacement, and the energy release rate are obtained for any crack length and inclination angle. These solutions can be used as fundamental solutions and can be superimposed to represent any arbitrary electromechanical loading.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the determinants of blockholder presence in the Korean stock market. This study examines previous theories and studies, points that previous studies did not examine, and proposes two hypotheses. To verify two hypotheses, fundamental data were collected from firms listed on Korea Exchange from 2005 to 2017. As explanatory variables, we use the factors and characteristics of the firms used in the previous studies. Logistic regression analysis was conducted to test the determinants of blockholder presence. We find that firm size is the most distinctive factor determining the presence of blockholder, and firm idiosyncratic risk is the most similar factor determining the existence of each blockholder. Tobin Q shows significant value in family and government, and R&D intensity appears to be a negative related to the presence of blockholder in financial institutions. We also find that the determinant of blockholder presence differs from the mechanisms that govern each individual blockholder type when all blockholders grouped together. This suggests that there is blockholder heterogeneity within Korea listing firms. Our findings contribute to investors and policy makers who interested in the determinants of the presence of blockholder and blockhoder heterogeneity in Korea stock market.

  • Spectrum sharing between wireless systems becomes a critical issue due to emerging new technologies and spectrum shortage. Recently, IMT system has been allocated in the same frequency C band (3400-4200MHz) along with FSS services on co-primary basis, which means that harmful interference probability may be inspired. In this paper, to estimate the spectrum sharing between IMT and FSS systems, the minimum separation distances have been evaluated considering major factors such as the clutter loss in some areas and the elevation angle of FSS earth station, and using I/N=-10dB which is fundamental criterion for coexistence.

  • There is a need to define the concept of suffering more appropriate in the context of Korean culture. This research is an attempt to reanalyze the concept of suffering by applying Walker & Avant's process of concept analysis. The steps of concept analysis are : 1. Select a concept. 2. Determine the aims or purpose of the analysis. 3. Identify all uses of the concept that you can discover. 4. Determine the defining attributes. 5. Construct model, contrary, borderline, related and invented cases. 6. Identify antecedents and consequences. 7. Define empirical referents. The concept of suffering can be defined as follows: Suffering is a fundamental and inevitable experience of all human beings. When each individual experiences loss, damage and pain which threaten one's personal integrity, suffering is perceived differently among each individual depending on their personal inner factors, one's significant others, exterior circumstances and stimuli, and the ultimate meaning of life. Suffering brings severe and unendurable distress which accompany despair, powerlessness, anxiety, bitterness, fear, anguish, guilt, depression, withdrawal and anger. The attributes of suffering were analyzed. Model case, contrary case, borderline case, related case, and invented case were described. Antecedents, consequences and empirical referents were explored. This concept analysis provides data for new insights of suffering. These findings suggests that appropriate nursing interventions aimed at relieving suffering of patients need to be developed and implemented more widely.

  • Tankers have somewhat different shapes in construction and working condition compared with normal merchant ship. If an accident occurs, normal merchant ship's damages will mostly be confined to ship and cargo, but those of tankers will result in oil spills and catastrophic loss beyond our imagination. So, first we must understand risk factors, pre-loss control and post-loss control, legal regulations about its indemnification and marine insurance for oil tanker operation. When unexpected accidents happen, despite pre-loss control, it is possible to cover those kinds of losses by insurance. To control these losses, however, it is important to establish compensation for oil pollution and arrange for oil pollution preventing system. In spite of these oil pollution preventing systems, we have rarely seen that pollution from oil tankers could be solved. So this paper was studied more fundamental and overall control measures for the risk management of oil tanker operation.

  • Vanadium dioxide (VO2) is a strongly correlated oxide exhibiting a first-order metal-insulator transition (MIT) that is accompanied by a structural phase transition from a low temperature monoclinic phase to a high-temperature rutile phase. VO2 has attracted significant attention because of a variety of possible applications based on its ultrafast MIT. Interestingly, the transition nature of VO2 is significantly affected by stress due to doping and/or interaction with a substrate and/or surface tension as well as defects. Accordingly, there have been considerable efforts to understand the influences of such factors on the phase transition and the fundamental mechanisms behind the MIT behavior. Here, we present the influences of oxygen deficiency, hydrogen doping, and substrate-induced stress on MIT phenomena in single-crystalline VO2 nanobeams. Specifically, the work function and the electrical resistance of the VO2 nanobeams change with the compositional variation due to the oxygen-deficiency-related defects. In addition, the VO2 nanobeams during exposure to hydrogen gas exhibit the reduction of transition temperature and the complex phase inhomogenieties arising from both substrate-induced stress and the formation of the hydrogen doping-induced metallic rutile phase.

  • The join operation is an important, fundamental operation in database systems, and it costs much to execute. In the literature, there are a number of technical attempts on development and evaluation of efficient join operations, all of which have been carried out In developers' perspective. This paper proposes a join operations benchmark that is dedicated to the evaluation of the join operations in database systems in users' perspective. This benchmark helps users select a database system that performs the join operations well in their work environment. The benchmark consists of 42 join queries, which are derived from on six performance factors that are picked out in two join categories. We have implemented this benchmark with two commercial database systems. The experimental results are also reported.

  • Purpose: There has been an increasing focus on consumer ethics by researchers and practitioners alike with the former seeking to examine the general discrepancy between ethical attitude, intention and actual behaviour by proposing behavioural measures to understand ethical consumption. Research into the effects of generational cohorts and gender, two fundamental demographic factors that shape the consumer habituated repertoire, on consumer ethics has reported mixed findings. The present study investigates if there are differences in ethical consumer behavior by generational cohorts and by gender in the context of an emerging market - Vietnam. Research design, data and methodology: Data was collected using a quantitative survey (a link to the questionnaire was posted on relevant social media platforms). A total of 539 usable responses was used for ANOVAs and independent t-tests to test the hypotheses. Results: a) There are significant differences in terms of ethical consumer behavior between Gen Z and Gens Y/X, but no difference between Gen X and Gen Y; b) There is no gender difference in ethically minded consumer behavior. Conclusion: For consumer ethics, generational effects may be moderated by macroeconomic conditions, while gender alone as a biological variable may not be a reliable predictor.
