In this paper, we develop a design methodology of Granular-based Radial Basis Function Neural Networks(GRBFNN) by context-based clustering. In contrast with the plethora of existing approaches, here we promote a development strategy in which a topology of the network is predominantly based upon a collection of information granules formed on a basis of available experimental data. The output space is granulated making use of the K-Means clustering while the input space is clustered with the aid of a so-called context-based fuzzy clustering. The number of information granules produced for each context is adjusted so that we satisfy a certain reconstructability criterion that helps us minimize an error between the original data and the ones resulting from their reconstruction involving prototypes of the clusters and the corresponding membership values. In contrast to "standard" Radial Basis Function neural networks, the output neuron of the network exhibits a certain functional nature as its connections are realized as local linear whose location is determined by the values of the context and the prototypes in the input space. The other parameters of these local functions are subject to further parametric optimization. Numeric examples involve some low dimensional synthetic data and selected data coming from the Machine Learning repository.

Reverse engineering involves duplicating a physical part by measuring and analyzing its physical dimensions, features, and material properties. By combining reverse engineering with three-dimensional (3D) printing, engineers can simply fabricate and evaluate functional prototypes. This design methodology has been attracting increasing interest with the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In the present study, we apply reverse engineering and 3D printing technologies to evaluate a fabricated automotive inner ring prototype. Through 3D printing, inner rings of various densities were prepared. Their physical dimensions were measured with a 3D scanning system. Of our interest was the effect of inner ring density on the physical dimensions of the fabricated prototype. We compared the design dimensions and physical dimensions of the fabricated prototypes. The results revealed that even the 20% density of inner ring was effective for 3D printing in terms of satisfying the design requirements.

This study aims to develop a smart uniform with embedded luminescence for street cleaners to enhance visibility, safety, and long-term usability, informed by real users' opinions. It employed mixed-methods research comprising three phases: first, a pre-interview to identify existing problems; second, experiments to evaluate the visibility and durability of the technology embedded in smart uniforms during machine washing; and third, a post-survey and observation to assess user satisfaction regarding safety, long-term usability, and aesthetic aspects. Prototypes were developed to evaluate long-term usability and safety based on users' opinions. The findings indicated users desired long-term usage without the need for additional wear and highlighted concerns about the glare from light-emitting devices. The developed prototypes demonstrated long-term usability, remaining functional after more than 25 machine washes without reducing brightness or structural integrity. Regarding participant satisfaction, 83.5% of users were satisfied with the design, both aesthetically and functionally. This study offers a viable approach to developing user-centered designs incorporating light-emitting devices, which enhance visibility and provide aesthetic satisfaction while ensuring long-term usability. The results hold significant implications for future design research focused on vulnerable populations, emphasizing integrated satisfaction in terms of safety and long-term usability.
The purpose of this paper is to develop a workwear design framework that can be applied in workwear design. A general explorationstudy was conducted onworkwear concepts and market research to understand the importance and growth potential of workwear. Subsequently, representative brands specializing in workwear are selected, and a case analysis of workwear is conducted with a focus on jackets, pants, and overall items. As a result, four key characteristics of workwear are derived: Ergonomic Pattern-making, Certified Fabric, Specialized Color, and Customized Details. To present a model that considers the functional, expressive, and aesthetic aspects of workwear simultaneously, the 'Function Express Aesthetic' (FEA) model is utilized as the foundation. The 12 derived elements in the newly developed framework combine these four characteristics with three aspects (functional, expressive, and aesthetic), allowing for comprehensive consideration and validation of workwear conditions. The new framework will be used in subsequent research for developing workwear prototypes and is expected to enhanceworkwear production by employing a systematic approach during the design ideation and evaluation stages. By effectively integrating functional aspects with expressive-aesthetic values centered on the functionality of workwear products, this framework will provide.
This study developed smart fashion prototypes that provide utilitarian functionality by combining Fashion and Electronics regarding the IT focused convergence tendency in modern industries. A convergence R&D workshop was performed by Fashion design majors and Engineering majors for the study. As a result, 5 functional smart fashion prototypes were developed and the outline of each prototype are as follows. The $1^{st}$ prototype, 'Hidden Camera Detecting Coat' focused on gender-related crimes. The coat uses infrared lighting and LED technologies to provide a function to detect hidden cameras in suspicious public spaces such as toilets. The $2^{nd}$ prototype, 'Heating-massage Suit' targeted patients with musculoskeletal system difficulties. The suit uses heating and vibration technologies to provide a heating massage treatment for patients with ongoing difficulties in their daily lives. The $3^{rd}$ prototype is an air-bag jacket to prevent sexual molestation on public transportation. The jacket extends its volume through pressure sensing, air compressing, motors and 3D-printing technology to secure the wearer's personal preventive space between the user's body and others. The $4^{th}$ prototype is a town wear for people suffering from synesthesia. People with synesthesia inadvertently see colors when exposed to certain sounds. This town wear uses sound sensing, air compressing, motors and 3D-printing technology to provide sound prevention and a comfortable sound playing function. The $5^{th}$ prototype is a set of a vest and a gloves for visually impaired people. The vest and gloves uses DMS, voice playing, vibration technology to provide distance measuring and warning functions.

This paper focuses on the development of RT technology suitable for manufacturing a small quantity of metal prototype of a precise part from an RP master. Dimensional accuracy and surface roughness are evaluated from Thermojet part of a 3D printer, and effective post-processing method is introduced. Investment casting is done using a prototype built from 3D printer as a wax pattern. Ceramic shell investment casting technique is developed to build a prototype with materials mostly wanted. Also, experimental result shows this research is very useful in manufacturing of a small quantity of functional part or a test part of a specific material.
This paper proposes functional test methods of first-aid gadgets which are special end-effectors, for relief robot. In recent years, researches have been actively conducted on robots that can perform rescue operations on behalf of rescue workers in dangerous areas such as disasters and wars. These special robots mainly perform the task of finding or transporting injured people. However, it is sometimes they necessary to provide first aid in the field. Among the various first-aid operations, gadgets are being developed for oxygen supply, injection, and hemostasis operations that can be used in a defense/civilian area by using robot technology. Previous studies have proposed first-aid gadgets that are suitable for onsite situations and enable robots to perform the given task quickly and accurately. In this paper, we design a test procedure suitable for the functions of first-aid gadgets, summarize the results, and introduce future research directions.

We developed a new antibacterial material, a non-woven fabric, a sulfur solution, and a new adhesive system to manufacture a new type of functional hybrid corrugated board in previous studies. Based on experimental data, the prototypes of functional hybrid corrugated boards were manufactured and their physical properties and functionalities, including antibacterial property and the freshness maintenance of sweet persimmon, were measured in this study. The functional hybrid corrugated board could be manufactured in the actual process with linerboards, non-woven fabrics, and other materials without any troubles, and was strong enough to be used as a packaging box for agricultural products. The antibacterial property of the hybrid corrugated board showed a value high enough to eliminate bacteria, which could deteriorate the sweet persimmons. Based on appearance observations, weight loss and firmness measurements, the freshness of sweet persimmons in the functional hybrid corrugated board was maintained better than it was in the conventional corrugated board.

There is rising interest in green energy, energy efficient equipment, and products as countries show increased interest in 'Low Carbon and Green Growth'. The cellphone has become one of the essential influences on modem people beyond the meaning itself by the release and the commercialization of the Smartphone. Thus, it considers that the introduction of fashion for cellphones and digital devices to be always on should be a quite natural design attempt for humans to wear clothes at all times. In addition, outdoor activities increase as the population enjoys more sports and leisure time that requires the development of specialized outwear such as the development of a functional jacket. This specialized field is associated with higher value-added businesses. This study made a prototype of a functional jacket equipped with solar cells that established a system of a fashion design that is harmonious with green growth as a plan to measure of fashion design for green growth. The objects of this study are as follow: First, the study seeks a design method for green growth. Second, it makes a prototype to present the improved design method. Third, it presents the establishment of a design system that considers green growth and the concrete measures practical for the system. It established the design system and made the prototype of functional jacket equipped with solar cells, LED, and digital devices as a measure of design for green growth based on the improvement plan of the design that the problems had been supplemented for. Previous studies were mainly about prototypes that attempted to equip mobile digital devices as a study of smart wear; however, this study leaves the issue of power supply for a follow-up study that is different from preceding studies.
The purpose of this study is to develop a design prototype of outdoor-wear which is suitable for trekking. For achieving this purpose, 6 factors(bodice, sleeve, hood, pockets, opening, hem-line) considered for clothing function were selected, classified, and complemented based on the survey of literature and the research of 185 designs in 12 outdoor-wear brands. The results are as follows; The removable hood and 4DM sleeve style with the elastic band and velcro for the cuffs was the most preferred in the detail design on the brand research. And also the ventilation function and 1 or 2 diagonal in-seam pocket, covered zipper was preferred. Based on this result, two design prototypes of men's outdoor-wear for trekking were suggested; jacket 1 has a slim waist line and a hip length. Front opening has a zip and placket for windproof effect. There is a detachable hood with stopper around the head line. 4DM sleeve and elastic band inserted at the end of sleeve, so that prevent the hem-line raising. Two inseam pocket is placed slightly diagonal. Jacket 2 is a hood jacket with a york. The Jacket has a little roomier in waist and a hip length. Front opening is fastened by a waterproof zip. It has a 4DM sleeve and a princess line to make it placed two pocket which have ventilation functionality.
