  • It is difficult to design system software to meet a better separation of concerns, which can provide a number of benefits such as adaptability, extensibility, and modularity in the design and implementation. During design, some aspectual properties, such as synchronization, scheduling, performance and fault tolerance, crosscut the basic functionalities of the system software. By separating functional components from the different aspectual components of the system software in the design, we can provide a better generic design model of system software. Aspect-Oriented Programming is a methodology that aims at separating components and aspects from the early stages of the software life cycle, and using techniques to combining them together at the implementation phase. In this paper we discuss an aspect-oriented framework that can simplify system software design and implementation by expressing it at a higher level of abstraction. Our work concentrates on how to achieve a higher separation of aspectual components, functional components, and layers from each other. Our goal is to achieve a better design model for implementing system software in terms of modularity, reusability and adaptability.

  • To fill the emotivity in the interior design, the functional factor from the provided space, the aesthetic factor including modeling factor, and even the practical factor from the convenience and the value must be considered. To carry out an achieved design by the emotivity, it must follow the recognition of the original function which comes from the emotivity design method, and it should be applied to the design process fitting into the purpose of the space. The value of the sufficient interior by the emotivity is depended on what kind of image it gives, and how much of the satisfaction it can give to the customers. And fur more, it should not be partially lean to any of the decoration and the function of the object. That is, how faithfully it was to the use and the purpose of the interior and the emotion related to all parts which are the functional side and the decorative side mainly considered in the external form is designed by the essential part of the design.

  • The design strategy of the multi-functional structure is that the electrical components and the circuits are directly put on their supporting structural panel in which the radiation shields and the thermal control functions are integrated. Applying the multi-functional structure reduces the total mass and size of the space system and makes it possible to lower launch cost. In present study the performance of thermal radiation for six types of multi-functional structure are investigated by the numerical method. The effect of the rib configuration on heat transfer for the multi-functional-structure is not important alone but is meaningful considering with the structural stiffness, difficulty of manufacturing and mass increase. In heat spreading point of view, the thickness of the outer conductive layer is important rather than the rib configuration and the trade-off study with the mass and thickness is required for optimum design.

  • Purpose: The primary objective of this research is to develop the optimal operating conditions as well as their associated design spaces for a Cryogenic Submerged Arc Welding(SAW) process by improving its quality and productivity simultaneously. Methods: In order to investigate functional relationships among quality characteristics and their associated control factors of an SAW process, a stepwise design of experiment(DoE) method is proposed in this paper. Based on the DoE results, not only a multi-dimensional design space but also a safe operating space and normal acceptable range(NAR) by integrating statistical confidence intervals were demonstrated. In addition, the optimal operating conditions within the proposed NAR can be obtained by a robust optimal design method. Results: This study provides a customized stepwise DoE method (i.e., a sequential set of DoE such as a factorial design and a central composite design) for Cryogenic SAW process and its statistical analysis results. DoE results can then provide both the main and interaction effects of input control factors and the functional relationships between the input factors and their associated output responses. Maximizing both the product quality with high impact strength and the productivity with minimum processing times simultaneously in a case study, we proposed a design space which can provide both acceptable productivity and quality levels and NARs of input control factors. In order to confirm the optimal factor settings and the proposed NARs, validation experiments were performed. Conclusion: This research may provide significant contributions and applications to many SAW problems by preparing a standardization of the functional relationship between the input factors and their associated output response. Moreover, the proposed design space based on DoE and NAR methods can simultaneously consider a number of quality characteristics including tradeoff between productivity and quality levels.

  • Despite of various useful features, functional languages do not provide an efficient way of representing states. To improve expressiveness of functional language, it is required a method representing explicit state without violating of functional semantic properties. In this paper, imperative functional language, $\lambda$st-calculus is designed to represent states without compromising the properties of pure functional languages. And we construct an algorithm to reduce proposed imperative functional language. $\lambda$st-calculus model which is an extension of the $\lambda$-calculus model with explicit state constructor without violating their semantic properties. it improves expressiveness of syntax through a concept of state composition and simplified reduction rules.

  • The rifling design problem has continuous-type shape variables and an integral number of riflings. In addition, it requires considerable time for analysis because its behavior should be described by a nonlinear finite element model (FEM). Therefore, this study presents an efficient design process for rifling based on a design of experiment (DOE) approach. First, Bose's orthogonal array is used to represent 25 runs for four design variables including three shape variables and one integer variable. Then, nonlinear FE analyses are performed. Next, to minimize the bullet resistance without affecting the bullet velocity and bullet rotational angle immediately before a bullet leaves the gun barrel, a what-if design is performed. In the proposed what-if design, a functional including the design objective and constraints is constructed and effect analysis is performed by using the functional. It is found that the new design obtained from the what-if design shows better results than the current one.

  • Over the last decade, interactive devices such as mobile phones have become complicated drastically mainly because of feature creep, the tendency for the number of features in a product to rise with each release of the product. One of the ways to reduce the complexity of a multi-functional device is to design it consistently. Although the definition of consistency is elusive and it is sometimes beneficial to be inconsistent, in general, consistently designed systems are easier to learn, easier to remember, and causing less errors. In practice, however, it is often not easy to design the user interaction or interface of a multi-functional device consistently. Since the interaction design of a multi-functional device should deal with a large number of design variables and relations among them, solving this problem might be very time-consuming and error-prone. Therefore, there is a strong need for a well-developed methodology that supports the complex design process. This study has developed an effective and efficient methodology, called CUID (Consistent Design of User Interaction), which focuses on logical consistency rather than physical or visual consistency. CUID deals with three main problems in interaction design: procedure design for each task, decisions of available operations(or functions) for each system state, and the mapping of available operations(functions) and interface controls. It includes a process for interaction design and a software tool for supporting the process. This paper also demonstrates how CUID supports the consistent design of user interaction by presenting a case study. It shows that the logical inconsistencies of a multi-functional device can be resolved by using the CUID methodology.

  • Axiomatic Design is the one of many useful methods for making a good design. In this method, the independency of Functional Requirements (FRs) is an important property to determine whether the design is good or not. Until now so many designers have decided the independency between FRs by their own decisions. The way depending on inspiration is simple and fast, but it can not be considered as a precise conclusion. Also there are not exact rule that evaluate the quantitative independence between FRs. This paper will show the way to evaluate the quantitative independence of FRs from the comparison between FRs of lower levels, and develop more efficient and objective tool in Axiomatic Design.

  • To increase the productivity and efficiency of an enterprise, all relevant product information should be provided to shop floor workers timely and in a unified form because shop floor workers are final consumers of most accumulated information generated from various departments of an enterprise. But, most existing enterprise information systems have an emphasis upon providing design/manufacturing information to office workers. Proposed in this study is the development of integrated design/manufacturing information system focused on providing cohesive information required to shop floor activities. For developing integrated information system, the functional requirements at the shop floor are identified and analyzed. Based on the extracted functional requirements, object-oriented system design and implementation is conducted. By using this system, shop floor workers can use all relevant information required to their daily operation in a integrated and unified form.
