  • Functional Electrical Stimulation(FES) cause paralysed muscles to contract in some clinical circumstances. Generally, FES has been thought of as a valuable tool in activating any skeletal muscle paralysed as a result of upper motor neuron damage. But, the function of cardiac and smooth muscle is also affected by upper motor neuron damage. Today, various applications of FES are investigated, including conditioning cardiovascular exercise, caugh and breathing assistant, improving bowel and bladder control, hand grasp, standing and walking etc. This review will focus on the literature reporting application of FES to control respiratory capabilities and internal organ function as well as increase muscular strength, hand grasp, standing and walking in patients with upper motor diseases.

  • Policosanol extracted from sugarcane wax is a generic term used for total fatty alcohols obtained from esterification of fatty acids. It has been approved as a health functional food by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of Korea in 2006. Policosanol is well-known to aid in lowering blood cholesterol level. Recently, several studies have reported the physiological activities of policosanol, such as anti-inflammatory effects, antioxidant effects, and lowering of the incidence of ageing-related diseases, for example, hypertension, stroke, among others. This review describes the physiological activities of policosanol and its applications in the field of health functional foods.

  • Applied Kinesiology (AK) is an evaluation system on the functional balance and integration of the body. Functional aspects of the triad of health are evaluated through muscle testing to see if the balance and integration is in an optimal status or is influenced by a given environmental stimulation. Triad of health refers to the structural, chemical, and psychological aspects of the body. Muscle testing in AK is a functional neurological assessment of muscular response to a given environmental stimulation in a given individual. Meridian system and stomatognathic system as in TMJ balancing medicine serve as one of the theoretical basis of AK. This article reviews core concepts of AK, discusses yin-yang balance medicine perspectives and clinical applications of it.

  • Although both functional verification and performance evaluation are necessary for the development of effective and reliable communication systems, they have been often performed independently; by functional modeling with formal language tools and by performance modeling with professional network performance evaluation tools, respectively. Separate and repeated modeling of one system, however, would often result in cost increase and inconsistency between the models. This paper proposes an integrated model design approach in order to overcome this problem that evaluates the performance of a communication protocol designed in SDL with SDL-OPNET model conversion. The proposed technique generates OPNET skeleton code from Tau-generated C code of the SDL model by analyzing the relations between SDL and OPNET models. IEEE 802.2 LLC protocol was used as an example of model conversion to show the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed technique.

  • Functional electrical stimulation (FES) has developed over the last 35 years to become a scientifically, technologically and clinically recognized field of interest in clinical medicine. FES has been applied to locomotion, grasping, ventilation, incontinence, and decubitus healing. However, all of these achievements illustrate the initial applications of FES; its true potential has not yet been realized. Recently, FES systems, which are miniaturized stimulation devices, have been utilized in the clinical setting. However, because the stimulating electrodes of the current FES devices are percutaneous electrodes, which are susceptible to wire breakage, and skin infection an implantable FES stimulating electrode has been introduced in the U.S. and Japan. In the present study, an external power supply method using radio frequency (RF) coupling and data transmission was developed for the control of the implantable FES device. In addition, we review the current understanding of FES devices and their application in clinical medicine.

  • In this paper, we prove the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability results controlled by considering approximately mappings satisfying conditions much weaker than Hyers and Rassias conditions for radical quadratic and radical quartic functional equations in quasi-${\beta}$-normed spaces.

  • We consider testing equality of mean functions from two samples of functional data. A novel test based on the adaptive Neyman methodology applied to the Hotelling's T-squared statistic is proposed. Under the enlarged null hypothesis that the distributions of the two populations are the same, randomization methods are proposed to find a null distribution which gives accurate significance levels. An extensive simulation study is presented which shows that the proposed test works very well in comparison with several other methods under a variety of alternatives and is one of the best methods for all alternatives, whereas the other methods all show weak power at some alternatives. An application to a real-world data set demonstrates the applicability of the method.

  • In this paper we consider the Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) Service that starts recently in Korea and gains popularity. DMB makes it possible to watch high quality TV programs while we are in motion. The service provider or the service researcher are interested in the factors that influence the user's choice of new service such as DMB. Understanding the factors make them create the powerful marketing strategies and develop the new service or product that is attractive for users. We therefore find the factors influencing the user's choice of DMB service, and propose a model for analyzing the relationship between the factors and the intention of buying. The model is based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). We extend the TAM by adding factors including functional attributes of DMB service. We survey the significant functional attributes influencing the intention of buying by using the proposed model.

  • We have introduced the Pickering emulsion systems to generate novel confining geometries for the selforganization of monodisperse polymer microspheres using nanoparticle-stabilized emulsion droplets encapsulating the building block particles. Then, through the slow evaporation of emulsion phases by heating, these microspheres were packed into regular polyhedral colloidal clusters covered with nanoparticle-stabilizers made of silica. Furthermore, polymer composite colloidal clusters were burnt out leaving nonspherical hollow micro-particles, in which the configurations of the cluster structure were preserved during calcination. The selfassembled porous architectures in this study will be potentially useful in various applications such as novel building block particles or supporting materials for catalysis or gas adsorption.

  • The use of nanovesicles (NVs) has contributed to nanotechnology in the development of new concept medicine to compete with diseases of deleterious and infectious to human health. Due to their properties of size, morphology, and biocompatibility NVs have great impact on public health especially in the development of new therapeutic and prophylaxis approaches in addition to the device for biosensors to diagnose human diseases. Recent data also strongly suggest that NVs are regarded as innovative materials in developing for vaccines and diagnostic tools. In this review, we focus on the basic concepts and recent applications of NVs to utilize or engineer them as therapeutic materials.
