  • The telecom world is steadily converging with the IP world, the benefits of converged services are required by many traditional telecom users. The aim of this thesis is to study the functional architecture of NGN based converged service. This thesis also shows how the converged service could be implemented on NGN with IMS core architecture.

  • LLRP (Low-Level Reader Protocol) specifies an interface between RFID readers and RFID applications, also called LLRP servers and clients respectively. An LLRP server should concurrently execute various functions. This paper designs an LLRP server of a multi-threaded architecture. For that, (i) the operational procedure between LLRP servers and clients is investigated, (ii) the functional requirements of LLRP servers are presented, (iii) the operation of an LLRP server is decomposed into several threads to satisfy those functional requirements, and (iv) the operational procedure is further examined in thread-level. To validate the designed architecture, it is modeled and simulated by using the DEVS formalism which specifies discrete event systems in a hierarchical, modular manner. From the simulation result, we can conclude that the proposed architecture conforms the LLRP standard and satisfies all the given functional requirements.

Park Chung-Hee's Thoughts on Landscape Architecture (박정희의 조경관)

  • The modern landscape architectural profession and education of Korea was established in the early 1970s. The former president Park Chung-Hee was a main axis in this process of establishment. This paper critically examines Park Chung-Hee's thoughts on landscape architecture. It can show us the functional relationship between his thoughts and the beginning of the history of modem landscape architecture in Korea. The close relationship between Park Chung-Hee and Korean landscape architecture can be interpreted as double sides. First, landscape architecture was a matter of great interest for Park Chung-Hee. His involvement of landscape architecture went well beyond that of an amateur. Second, landscape architecture was a strategic instrument for practicing his political policy of economic development and nationalism. There are three remarkable tendencies in his thoughts on landscape architecture. First, he regarded that the main role of landscape architecture was to cover and to decorate damaged sites. Second, he had a contradictory notion of tradition and history. Last, the European pastoral ideal was his criterion for the beauty of landscape. His thoughts on landscape architecture were an amalgamation of these three contradictory ideas, and it has left some controversial inheritances for contemporary landscape architecture.

A Theoretical Superscalar Microprocessor Performance Model with Limited Functional Units Using Instruction Dependencies (한정된 연산유닛에서 명령어 종속성을 이용하는 수퍼스칼라 프로세서의 이론적 성능 모델)

  • In the initial design phase of superscalar microprocessors, a performance model is necessary. A theoretic performance model is very useful since performance for various architecture parameters can be obtained by simply computing equations, without repeating simulations, Previous studies established theoretic performance models using the relation between the instruction window size and the issue width, with the penalties due to branch mispredictions and cache misses. However, the study was intended for unlimited number of functional units, which is insufficient for the real case application. This paper proposes a superscalar microprocessor theoretical performance model which also works for the limited functional units. To enhance the accuracy of our limited functional unit model, instruction dependency rates are employed. By using trace-driven data of SPEC 2000 integer programs as input, this paper shows that the theoretically computed performance of superscalar microprocessor with limited number of functional units is quite similar to the measured performance.

Three-dimensional functional unit analysis of hemifacial microsomia mandible-a preliminary report

  • Background: The aim of this study was to present three-dimensional (3D) structural characteristics of the mandible in the hemifacial microsomia. The mandible has six distinct functional units, and its architecture is the sum of balanced growth of each functional unit and surrounding matrix. Methods: In order to characterize the mandibular 3D architecture of hemifacial microsomia, we analyzed the mandibular functional units of four hemifacial microsomia patients using the 3D reconstructed computed tomography (CT) images. And we compared the functional unit size between affected and non-affected side. Results: The length of condyle and angle showed significant differences between affected and non-affected sides. However, the length of mandibular body showed insignificant differences. The size differences between affected and non-affected side were observed at the condyle, angle, and body in descending order. Conclusions: This preliminary study suggests that the main etiopathogenic units are condyle and angle in the hemifacial microsomia mandible. Further investigation with the increased number of subjects will be helpful to establish treatment modality by etiopathogenic targeting of hemifacial microsomia.

  • In general, an Architecture of a system is embodied as applied results of a requirement analysis of a system in early development phase. These efforts play a important role in analyzing and understanding a system considering operational, functional, and physical view and deriving a correct solution before developing the system. In this paper, the architecture of the Tube Transportation System(TTS) known as the new transportation system in Railway Domain is depicted by performance parameter has already developed. The existing performance parameters are shown by a variety of types with many meanings rather than types of general requirements refined. As these early performance parameters have analyzed and complemented to a level of requirement by requirement managers and other domain specialists, the architecture of the Tube Transportation System was developed systematically and then system requirements will be drawn up definitely. The presented architecture will provide a framework of developing a TTS and also offer an information in performance analysis of TTS.

  • There are many spreading effects that never experienced before due to digital progress of the present age. Digital progress produce innovative changes now in cultural environment, architectural process, exhibition techniques, called the age of digital technology. The functional relation between 'Digital' and' Architecture' must not to be overlooked in field of cyber architecture, further more, space design, so that requests some necessary to build new paradigm for digital presentation and spatial experience.

  • This study analyses the qualities of digital architecture applying digital technologies by examining the qualities applied to the fashion designs of Husssein Chalayan. The aim of this study is to forecast in what ways the digital influence over fashion will evolve. This study was based on literature and case studies to examine the characteristics of digital architecture, and a case analysis of fashion design was conducted on the collections of Hussein Chalayan that draw heavily from technology. As a result, it was possible to classify the characteristics of digital architecture into five groups - immateriality, interactivity, nonlinearity, liquidity, and hypersurface; in addition, all of these characteristics were found in the works of Hussein Chalayan. The digital paradigm will continue to influence modern architecture and fashion in functional and/ or expressive terms that will continue to strengthen through the further advancement of digital technology.

  • Hospital Architectures in Korea are continuously erected to old-fashioned design, such as a large self-sufficient, but cost-inefficient hospital, in spite of rapidly changing social and healthcare environment. However, changes are slowly coming from inside of itself. This paper analyzed block plans of 7 best Korean hospitals which constructed in recent 20 years in aspects of the purpose of erection, departmental composition, areal composition, mass design and functional zoning of block plans and then, presented the directions of new design trends of hospital architecture in Korea. It is anticipated that hospital architecture will change immensely in the enlarging process of these minor changes.
