  • This paper describes the development of service robotic systems with the Tripodal schematic control architecture. We show practical advantages of the proposed architecture by giving examples of our experience. First, we explain how to add new task using Tripodal architecture approach. The Tripodal architecture provides some crucial organizing principles and core components that are used to build the basis for the system. Thus, the newly developed behaviors, motion algorithm, knowledge, and planning schemes are arranged so as to guarantee the efficiency of the performance of components. Second, we describe the reusability and scaleability of our architecture by introducing the implementation process of the guide robot Jinny. Most of modules developed for former robots like PSR-1 and PSR-2 systems are used directly to the Jinny system without significant modification. Experimental results clearly showed that the developed strategy is useful, even if the hardware configurations as well as software algorithms are more complex and more accumulating.

  • In this paper, an efficient hardware architecture of Lempel-Ziv compressor for real time data compression is proposed. The accumulated shift operations in the Lempel-Ziv algorithm are the major problem, because many shift operations are needed to prepare a dictionary buffer and matching symbols. A new efficient architecture for the fast processing of Lempel-Ziv algorithm is presented in this paper. In this architecture, the optimization technique for dictionary size, a new comparing method of multi symbol and a rotational FIFO structure are used to control shift operations easily. For the functional verification, this architecture was modeled by C programming language, and its operation was verified by running on commercial DSP processor. Also, the design of overall architecture in VHDL was synthesized on commercial FPGA chip. The result of critical path analysis shows that this architecture runs well at the input bit rate of 256kbps with 33MHz clock frequency.

  • Purpose: This study aims to examine the trends in healthcare architecture research by analyzing papers published in KIHA (Journal of the Korea Institute of Healthcare Architecture) and HERD (Health Environments Research and Design Journal) in the USA. The analysis categorizes these papers into Evidence-Based Design (EBD) and non-EBD research from a comparative perspective. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted on 370 papers published in KIHA and 399 papers published in HERD from 2007 to 2022. The research trends were analyzed based on the researchers' fields of study, research focus, and research attributes. Results: The findings indicate that HERD involves researchers from 43 different fields, whereas KIHA involves researchers from 16 fields, indicating less diversity. HERD predominantly includes interdisciplinary and empirical studies, while KIHA primarily features theoretical and single-discipline studies. Papers in HERD generally demonstrate a higher level of evidence compared to those in KIHA. Implications: Direct comparisons should be approached with caution due to the differing contexts of healthcare architecture research in the two countries. The methodological efforts in HERD and the functional analysis results in KIHA provide valuable references for the future direction of healthcare architecture research. Expanding collaborative and interdisciplinary research involving various professionals is essential to advance the field.

  • Berlin Philharmonic Concert Hall is one of most prominent architecture of Hans Scharoun, which is known as the fine combination of the functionalism as an important factor in modern architecture and the hi-developed technology Moreover, the plan and spatial planning of the concert hall is famous for its evolutionary approach compared to other traditional concert halls. The objective of this paper is to examine forms and organic system of functions of this concert hall in order to re-evaluate it's historical meanings in our modern architecture history, The current study will also look into how the personal background of Hans Scharoun has influenced his design in various ways, especially the inside of lobby and auditorium of Berlin Philharmonic Concert Hall.

  • There are some modifications in the usage purpose of historical structures due to varying needs and changing conditions. However, those modifications can damage the structural system and the system stability. This study focuses on the investigation of the functional effects and usage modifications on the system stability. In this study, three different finite element models of the Hayati $Teknecio\breve{g}lu$ Mansion in Turkey are developed and the seismic responses of the models are investigated. Results of the analyses show that usage modifications might be considered as risky in terms of creating problems for seismic performance.

  • In this paper, we propose an area-efficient architecture of a reed-solomon (RS) decoder/encoder for digital VCRs. The new architecture of the decoder/encoder targeted to reduce the circit size and decoding latency has the following two features. First, area-efficeincy has been significantly improved by sharing a functional block for encoding, modified syndrome computation, and erasure locator polynomial evaluation. Second, modified euclid's algorithms has been implemented by using a new architecture. Experimental results have showed that the decoder/encoder designed by using the proposed method has been implemented with 25% smaller sie over straight forware implementation based on the conventional method [1] and the decoding latency has been reduced.

  • Wireless sensor networks are subject to highly heterogeneous system requirements in terms of their functionality and performance due to their broad application areas. Though the heterogeneity hinders the opportunity of developing a single universal platform for sensor networks, efforts to provide uniform, inter-operable and scalable ones for sensor networks are still essential for the growth of the industry as well as their technological advance. As a part of our work to develop such a robust platform, this paper presents the software architecture for sensor nodes with focus on our sensor node operating system and its configuration methodology. Addressing principle issues in its design space which includes programming, execution, task scheduling and software layer models, our architecture is highly reconfigurable with respect to system resources and functional requirements and also highly efficient in supporting multi-threading under small system resources.

  • As a short lived group, ABC had an important effect on the design of Modern architecture. Because it played an important role in the foundation of CIAM, and affected the style of Internationalism and Neue Sachlichkeit in Modern architecture. ABC group was the result of Elementarism and Constructivist International. And El Lissitzky was a central figure in the birth of ABC group as a Constructivist. ABC's design resembled the design of ASNOVA, but it modified it as a more real and functional design. This study amins at the analysis of the effects of ABC group on the design of Modern architecture.

  • System integration is an important element for the construction of naval combat ships. In particular, because impeccable combat system integration together with the sensors and weapons can ensure the combat capability and survivability of the ship, the integrated performance of the combat system should be verified and validated whether or not it fulfills the requirements of the end user. In order to conduct systematic verification and validation, a data analysis tool is requisite. This paper suggests the Data Extraction, Recording and Analysis Tool (DERAT) for the data analysis of the integrated performance of the combat system, including the functional definition, architecture and effectiveness of the DERAT by presenting the test results.

  • Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) is a photovoltaic (PV) technology which can be incorporated into the roofs walls of both commercial and domestic buildings to provide a source of electricity. BIPV systems can operate as a multi-functional building components, which generates electricity and serves as part of building envelope. It can be regarded as a new architectural elements, adding to the building's aesthetics. Applying PV modules on roof has an advantage over wall applications as they seem to receive more solar radiation on PV modules. There are various types of PV applications on building roofs: attached, on-top and integrated. This paper describes the classification and characteristics of PV applications on roofs.
