  • This paper presents the methods for the modeling and parameter optimization of the electric vehicle battery. The state variables of the battery are defined, and the test methods for battery parameters are presented. The state-space equation, which consists of four state variables, and the output equation, which is a combination of to-be-determined parameters, are shown. The parameter optimization method is the key point of this study. The least square of the modeling error can be used as an initial value of the multivariable function. It is equivalent to find the minimum value of the error function to obtain optimal parameters from multivariable function. The SIMULINK model is presented, and the 10-hour full operational range test results are shown to verify the performance of the model. The modeling error for 25 degrees is approximately 1% for full operational ranges. The comments to enhance modeling accuracy are shown in the conclusion.

  • Optimum sensitivity analysis (OSA) is the process to find the sensitivity of optimum solution with respect to the parameter in the optimization problem. The prevalent OSA methods calculate the optimum sensitivity as a post-processing. In this research, a simple technique is proposed to obtain optimum sensitivity as a result of the original optimization problem, provided that the optimum sensitivity of objective function is required. The parameters are considered as additional design variables in the original optimization problem. And then, it is endowed with equality constraints to penalize the additional variables. When the optimization problem is solved, the optimum sensitivity of objective function is simultaneously obtained as Lagrange multiplier. Several mathematical and engineering examples are solved to show the applicability and efficiency of the method compared to other OSA ones.

  • The optimization method based on an enhanced genetic algorithms is proposed for multimodal function optimization in this paper. This method is consisted of two main steps. The first step is global search step using the genetic algorithm(GA) and function assurance criterion(FAC). The belonging of an population to initial solution group is decided according to the FAC. The second step is to decide the similarity between individuals, and to research the optimum solutions by simplex method in reconstructive search space. Two numerical examples are also presented in this paper to comparing with conventional methods.

  • We proposed a neural network energy function for the optimal graph partitioning and its optimization method using Boltzmann Machine. We composed a Boltzmann Machine with the proposed neural network energy function, and the simulation results show that we can obtain an optimal solution with the energy function parameters of A=50, B=5, c=14 and D=10, at the Boltzmann Machine parameters of To=80 and \ulcorner0.07 for a 6-node 3-partition problem. As a result, the proposed energy function and optimization parameters are proved to be feasible for the optimal graph partitioning.

  • In this paper, the torque optimization of a kinematically redundant manipulator for minimizing the torque demands is discussed. The minimum torque solution based on a local optimization has been known to encounter the instability problem and then the global torque optimization was suggested as one of the alternatives. Herein, by adopting the infinity-norm rather than the 2-norm for the magnitude of torques, we are to propose a new cost function more advantageous to the avoidance of torque limits. By the way, a solution to the global torque optimization formulated with the new cost function can not be obtained by the previous methods due to their difficulties such as inability to treat discontinuous cost functions and various constraints on the joint variables. Thus, to overcome those deficiencies, we are developing a new approach using the dynamic programming. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through simulation examples for a 3-link planar redundant manipulator.

  • A continuum-based design sensitivity analysis and topology optimization methods are developed for power flow analysis. Efficient adjoint sensitivity analysis method is employed and further extended to topology optimization problems. Young's moduli of all the finite elements are selected as design variables and parameterized using a bulk material density function. The objective function and constraint are an energy compliance of the system and an allowable volume fraction, respectively. A gradient-based optimization, the modified method of feasible direction, is used to obtain the optimal material layout. Through several numerical examples, we notice that the developed design sensitivity analysis method is very accurate and efficient compared with the finite difference sensitivity. Also, the topology optimization method provides physically meaningful results. The developed is design sensitivity analysis method is very useful to systematically predict the impact on the design variations. Furthermore, the topology optimization method can be utilized in the layout design of structural systems.

  • Since tolerance allocation in a mobile phone camera manufacturing process greatly affects production cost and reliability of optical performance, a systematic design methodology for allocating optimal tolerances is required. In this study, we proposed the tolerance optimization procedure for determining tolerances that minimize production cost while satisfying the reliability constraints on important optical performance indices. We employed Latin hypercube sampling for evaluating the reliabilities of optical performance and a function-based sequential approximate optimization technique that can reduce computational burden and well handle numerical noise in the tolerance optimization process. Using the suggested tolerance optimization approach, the optimal production cost was decreased by 30.3 % compared to the initial cost while satisfying the two constraints on the reliabilities of optical performance.

  • High performance concrete (HPC) depends on various parameters such as the type of cement, aggregate and water reducer amount. Generally, the ready concrete company in various regions according to the requirements and costs, mix design of concrete as well as type of cement, aggregates, and, amount of other components will vary as a result of moment decisions or dynamic optimization, though the ideal conditions will be more applicable for the design of mix proportion of concrete. This study aimed to apply dynamic optimization for mix design of HPC; consequently, the objective function, decision variables, input and output variables and constraints are defined and also the proposed dynamic optimization model is validated by experimental results. Results indicate that dynamic optimization objective function can be defined in such a way that the compressive strength or performance of all constraints is simultaneously examined, so changing any of the variables at each step of the process input and output data changes the dynamic of the process which makes concrete mix design formidable.

  • In many dynamic structural optimization problems, the goal is to reduce the total weight of the structure without causing the resonance. Up to now, gradient informations(i.e., design sensitivity) have been used to achieve the goal. For some class of dynamic problems, especially coalescent eigenvalue Problems with multiobjective optimization, the design sensitivity analysis is too much complicated mathematically and numerically. Therefore, this article proposes a new technique fur structural dynamic modification using a mode modification method with Genetic Algorithm(GA). In GA formulation, fitness is defined based on penalty function approach. Design variables are iteratively improved by using genetic algorithm. Two numerical examples are shown, (ⅰ) a cantilevered plate, and (ⅱ) H-shaped structure. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is highly efficient.
