  • A Digital Signal Processor (abbreviated to DSP) is used not only for digital signal processing but also for kinematic controls[l]. Then applications to these fields are expected to be developed. We propose a function calculation method on DSP which occupies no table memory. By using these functions, more fast or more accurate control will be achieved without using function table.

  • In this paper, we investigate the sums of the elements in the finite set $\{x^k:1{\leq}x{\leq}{\frac{n}{m}},\;gcd_u(x,n)=1\}$, where k, m and n are positive integers and gcdu(x, n) is the unitary greatest common divisor of x and n. Moreover, for some cases of k and m, we can give the explicit formulae for the sums involving some well-known arithmetic functions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to point out that the Kaplan-Meier method is not valid to calculate the survival probability or failure probability (risk) in the presence of competing risks and to introduce more valid method of cumulative incidence function. Methods: Survival analysis methods have been widely used in biostatistics division. However the same methods have not been utilized in reliability division. Especially competing risks cases, where several causes of failure occur and the occurrence of one event precludes the occurrence of the other events, are scattered in reliability field. But they are not noticed in the realm of reliability expertism or they are analysed in the wrong way. Specifically Kaplan-Meier method which assumes that the censoring times and failure times are independent is used to calculate the probability of failure in the presence of competing risks, thereby overestimating the real probability of failure. Hence, cumulative incidence function is introduced and sample competing risks data are analysed using cumulative incidence function and some graphs. Finally comparison of cumulative incidence functions and regression type analysis are mentioned briefly. Results: Cumulative incidence function is used to calculate the survival probability or failure probability (risk) in the presence of competing risks and some useful graphs depicting the failure trend over the lifetime are introduced. Conclusion: This paper shows that Kaplan-Meier method is not appropriate for the evaluation of survival or failure over the course of lifetime. In stead, cumulative incidence function is shown to be useful. Some graphs using the cumulative incidence functions are also shown to be informative.

  • It is now widely accepted that the resulting displacement field within elastic, inhomogeneous, anisotropic solids subjected to equipartitioned, uniform illumination from uncorrelated sources, has intensities that follow diffusion-like equations. Typically, coda waves are invoked to illustrate this concept. These waves arrive later as a consequence of multiple scattering and appear at "the tail" (coda, in Latin) of seismograms and are usually considered an example of diffuse field. It has been demonstrated that the average correlations of motions within a diffuse field, in frequency domain, is proportional to the imaginary part of Green's function tensor. If only one station is available, the average autocorrelation is equal to the average squared amplitudes or the average power spectrum and this gives the Green's function at the source itself. Several works address this point from theoretical and experimental point of view. However, a complete and explicit analytical description is lacking. In this work we study analytically some properties of the Green's function, specifically the imaginary part of Green's function for 2D antiplane problems. This choice is guided by the fact that these scalar problems have a closed analytical solution (Kausel 2006). We assume the diffusiveness of the field and explore its analytical consequences.

  • In this paper we prove that any continuous function on a bounded closed interval of can be approximated by the superposition of a bounded sigmoidal function with a fixed weight. In addition we show that any continuous function over $\mathbb{R}$ which vanishes at infinity can be approximated by the superposition f a bounded sigmoidal function with a weighted norm. Our proof is constructive.

  • Objectives : Asthma is considered an inflammation disease characterized by airway hyperresponsiveness and pulmonary eosinophilia. Chungsang boha-tang is a herbal medication which has been frequently used in traditional therapeutic agents for asthma. We aimed to observe the clinical effects of Chungsangboha-tang on blood eosinophil, serum IgE, AST, ALT and pulmonary function in asthmatic outpatients. Methods : The subjects consisted of 66 asthmatic patients who had been treated with Chungsangboha-tang among all the asthmatic patients who visited the 5th Internal Medicine of the Oriental Medicine Hospital of Kyung Hee University from November,2004 to November,2009. We observed blood eosinophil, serum IgE, AST, ALT levels and pulmonary function test results as well as medical records of patients to evaluate the effects. Results : Pulmonary function significantly improved after 8 weeks of treatment, and blood eosinophil and serum IgE level significantly decreased after 8 weeks of treatment. AST, ALT levels changed in normal ranges. Chungsangboha-tang was significantly effective on the male patients who had a smoking history and worse initial lab findings. We also observed a significant improvement of pulmonary function and decrease of eosinophil and serum IgE levels in the patient group who had a single treatment of Chungsangboha-tang without steroid therapy. Conclusions : This study shows that Chungsangboha-tang has effects on the improvement of pulmonary function and decrease of eosinophil and serum IgE levels as well as improvement of symptoms. And, 8 weeks of long-term treatment showed no negative effects such as significant increase of AST, ALT levels.
