This investigation decribes the effect of the combustion and emission characteristics of HCNG engine according to the high purity hydrogen contents. The HCNG fuel was made by the mixture with a high purity hydrogen ($H_2$) and a natural gas. The test vehicle was applied to the bi-fuel (Gasoline and CNG) system and this system was modified from the fuel supply and fuel tank. In addition, the three premixed HCNG fuels with mixed rate of 10, 20 and 30% of hydrogen were used to maintain the safety. In order to analyze the combustion characteristics of HCNG and CNG, the fuel was injected in the combustor with constant volume. The exhaust emission from light duty vehicle with bi-fuel system was analyzed by a chassis dynamometer and emission analyzer. From these results, the reduction rate of NOx emission increased in the HCNG fuel and emission amount of THC and CO shows a similar level with CNG fuel. This study can be utilized the basic data for the development of a new business plans related with HCNG engines.

FCEV uses electric energy generated from the reaction between Hydrogen and Oxygen in fuel cell stack as driving force. As fossil fuels are exhausted, fuel cell is regarded as a potent substitute for next generation energy source, and thus, most of car-makers make every efforts to develop fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV). In addition, fuel cell is also beneficial in aspect of environment, because only clean water is produced during chemical reaction process instead of harmful exhausted gas. Generally, Hydrogen is supplied from high-pressured fuel tank, and air blower (or compressor) supplies Oxygen by pressurizing ambient air. Air blower which is driven by high speed motor consumes about $7{\sim}8%$ of energy generated from fuel cell stack. Therefore, the efficiency of an air blower is directly linked with the overall performance of FCEV. This study will present developing process of an air blower and its consisting parts respectively.
Fuel cells supply electric power and heat at work, and their exhaust gas is comparatively clear. So they are in the limelight as one of the co-generation systems which behave friendly with the environment. Fuel cells discharge both steam and hot water. Accordingly, if we combine absorption heat pump driven by waste heat with fuel cells, we can construct an advanced energy conserving system. The purpose of this study is the objective for evaluating the possibilities of effectively utilizing waste heat of fuel cells as a heat source for the single and double effect absorption systems. Simulation studies on single and double effect absorption have been performed for water/lithium-bromide pair. The effectiveness of introducing a waste heat source of fuel cells is demonstrated. The result of this study showed that total efficiency was about 85% at rated operation and about 75% at 75% load operation. Absorption cycle moved to more strong concentration when fuel cell operated at 75% load.

In order to confront the increasing air pollution and the tightening emission restrictions, this research developed a diesel engine using DME, the advanced smoke-free alternative fuel. By numerical analysis, flow field, spray, and combustion phenomenon of the DME engine was presented. Using an experimental method, the configuration of the fuel supply system and operation/power performance was tested with the current plunger pump. Most emission performance, especially smoke performance was significantly improved. The possibility of conversion from the current diesel engine into the DME engine was affirmed in this research. However, it was found that the increase of engine RPM and fuel amount need to be properly adjusted through matching the characteristics of fuel and injector for further improvement.

This study was performed to investigate the performance of heat recovery device attached to exhaust gas funnel connected to combustion chamber of greenhouse heating system. The experiment heat recovery system is mainly consisted of LPG combustion chamber and two heat recovery units; unit-A is attached directly to the exhaust gas funnel, and unit-B is connected with unit-A. Heat recovery performance was evaluated by estimating total energy amount by using enthalpy difference between two measurement points together with mass flow rate of gas and/or air passing through each heat recovery unit depending on 5 different flow rates controlled by voltage meter. The results of this experimental study, such as heat exchange behavior of supply air pipes and exhaust air passages crossing the pipes, pressure drop between inlet and outlet, heat recovery performance of exchange unit, etc., will be used as fundamental data for designing optimum heat recovery device to be used for fuel saving purpose by reducing heat loss amounts mostly wasted outside of greenhouse through funnels.
This paper describes the design and integration of the wind-fuel cell hybrid system. The hybrid system components included a wind turbine, an electrolyzer (for generation of H2), a PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell), hydrogen storage tank and BOP (Balance of Plant) system. The energy input is entirely provided by a wind turbine. A DC-DC converter controls the power input to the electrolyzer, which produces hydrogen and oxygen form water. The hydrogen used the fuel for the PEMFC. Hydrogen may be produced and stored in high pressure tank by hydrogen gas booster system. Wind conditions are changing with time of day, season and year. So, wind power is a variable energy source. The main purpose with these WT-FC hybrid system is to store hydrogen by electrolysis of water when wind conditions are good and release the stored hydrog en to supply the fuelcell when wind is low.
As a non-renewable energy source, fossil fuel causes environment problems, numerous efforts have been made for a global decarbonization, for example, the realization of Power 2 Gas (P2G) system as a definitive research goal. In particular, ammonia is regarded as an emerging source since it can be used as a hydrogen carrier and production alongside for fuel cell applications. In this mini-review, we summarized the properties of ammonia and further highlighted the worldwide research trend for its superb potential in hydrogen energy supply industries.

As environment problem became a worldwide issue, countries are tightening regulations regarding greenhouse gas reduction and improvement of air pollution problems. With these circumstances, one of the renewable energies produced from biomass is getting attention. Bio-ethanol, which is applicable to SI engine, showed a positive effect on the PFI (Port Fuel Injection) type. However, Ethanol has a problem in homogeneous mixture formation because it has high latent heat of vaporization characteristics and in the GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) type, mixture formation is required quickly after fuel injection. Particularly, South Korea is one of the countries with great temperature variation among seasons. With this reason, South Korea supply fuel additive for smooth engine operation during winter. Therefore, experimental study and investigation about application possibility of blending fuel is necessary. This paper demonstrates the spray characteristics by using the CVC direct injection and setting the bio-ethanol blending fuel temperature close to the temperature during each seasons: -7, 25, $35^{\circ}C$. The diameter and the width of the CVC are 86mm and 39mm. High-pressure fuel supply system was used for target injection pressure. High-speed camera was used for spray visualization. The experiment was conducted by setting the injection pressure and ambient pressure according to each temperature of bio-ethanol blending fuel as a parameter. The result of spray visualization experiment demonstrates that as the temperature of the fuel is lower, the atomization quality is lower, and this increase spray penetration and make mixture formation difficult. Injection strategy according to fuel temperature and bio-ethanol blending rate is needed for improving characteristics.

In this research, the characteristics of SOFC/GT (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell/Gas Turbine) system temperature, stack power and system efficiency for flow rates of air, CH4 and water supplied to SOFC stack have been investigated. The temperature of the gas supplied to cathode and anode of SOFC stack in the SOFC/GT system are maintained by utilizing exhaust gas without the addition of external heat source. As a result, within the scope of this study, temperatures of gas supplied to cathode and anode of SOFC stack were maintained at 1000 (K) by utilizing the exhaust gas of the SOFC/GT system without the addition of external heat source. The system efficiency is increased with increase of air flow rate supplied to the stack and with decrease of $CH_4$ flow rate supplied to the stack. In addition, it can be found that the flow rate of the exhaust gas supplied to the turbine had a significant effect on the system efficiency. And the efficiencies of SOFC stack and SOFC/GT system depending upon various operating conditions of the SOFC/GT system is 51~57% and 57~73%, respectively.

As the interest on the air pollution is gradually rising up at home and abroad, automotive industries have been working on the exhaust emission reduction from vehicles through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design, innovative aftertreatment systems, and using clean fuels. Methanol, ethanol, LNG, LPG, H2, reformulated gasoline are generally recognized as the clean fuel. Since the low price policy of government on LPG has expanded its vehicle market recently, there is concern of the exhaust emission of LPG vehicle. In this paper, we studied the value of LPG fuel as a clean fuel by comparing the results of the exhaust emission from LPG and Gasoline fueled vehicles, and discussed its limitation of LPG vehicle with mixer type as a fuel supply system. FTIR was used to understand the difference of exhaust emission components of LPG and Gasoline fueled vehicles.
