  • In recent years, shearogrpahy has significantly improved capabilities In the areas of unbend and separation detection in tires. Although shearography has many advantages fur qualitative evaluation, the technique remains the problem of quantitative analysis of inside defects, because shearography needs several effective factors including the amount of shearing, shearine direction and induced load, which exist as barrier for the quantitative analysis of inside defects. Since the factors are highly dependent on inspectors skill and also affect the in-situ workability. The factors were optimized and the size of cracks inside of pipeline and tire has been quantitatively determined.

  • ESPI(Electronic Speckle Pattern Interfermetry) is an optical technique to measure surface deforamtion of engineering components and materials in industrial ares. This optical method is capable of providing full-field results with high spatial resolution, high speed and is the non-contact technique. One of important application aspects using electronic speckle pattern interferometry is to generate contours of a diffuse object in order to provide data for 3-D shape analysis and topography measurement. The contouring method by modified dual-beam speckle pattern interferometry is proposed. We introduce a shift of the illumination beams through optical fiber in order to obtain the contour fringe patterns. The speckle pattern correlation technique is suitable for providing measurement range from millimeters to several centimeters. The complete geometric analysis of the contoretical and experimental results are obtained.

  • TVs or computer monitors with speakers often have a phenomenon called microphonic which shows fringe-like dark pattern on their screens. The major source of this phenomenon is vibration of the shadow mask inside of the Cathode RAY Tube(CRT) which is caused by the sound generated from the speakers. Reducing phenomenon microphonic by modifying the structure of the shadow mask frame in CRT has been examined in this study. A 15" for computer monitor were chosen. Using finite element analysis for vibration and impact, shape of the shadow mask frame was found to reduce microphonic phenomeon. Improved 15" monitors showed good results.d results.

  • In Particle Tracking Velocimetry, the analysis of double-exposed photographic plate can be carried out either by means of Young's fringe analysis or by a digital image processing technique. In this study, we used digital image processing to two images in one frame far analyzing in-cylinder flow fields, and compared PTV with PSV(Particle Streak Velocimetry). Additionally, this technique was verified by two different calibration method. One is interpolation by invert distance, the other is interpolation by area ratio. Finally, the results between two interpolation methods were similar in whole flow fields.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the landscape potential index for visualizing landscape information in the conservation of hilly landscape in urban fringe. For the visual and quantitative approach to topological landscape assessment, numerical entity data of DEM(digital elevation model) were processed with CAD-based utilities that we developed and were mainly focused on analysis of visibility and visual sensitivity. Some results, with reference in assessing greenbelt area of Eodeung Mt. in Gwangju, proved to be considerable in the landscape assessment of suburban hilly landscapes. 1) Since the viewpoints and viewpoint fields were critical to landscape structure, randomized 194 points(spatially 500m interval) were applied to assessing the generalized visual sensitivity, we called. Because there were similar patterns of distribution comparing to those by 56 points and 18 Points given appropriately, it could be more efficient by a few viewpoints which located widely. 2) Regressional function was derived to represent the relationships between probabilities of visibility frequency and the topological factors(topological dominance, landform complexity and relational aspect) of target field. 3) Visibility scores of each viewpoint were be calculated by summing the visual sensitivity indices within a scene. The scores to the upper part including ridge line have been more representative to overall distributions of visual sensitivities. Also, with sum of deviations of sensitivity indices from each single point's specific index to the weighting values of view points could be estimated rotationally. 4) The deviational distributions of visual sensitivity classes in the topological unit of target field were proved to represent the visual vulnerability of the landform. 5) Landscape potential indices combined with the visual sensitivity and the DGN(degree of green naturality) were proposed as visualized landscape information distributed by topological unit.

  • A hybrid experimental-numerical method is presented for determining the stresses around a circular hole in a finite-width, tensile loaded plate. Measured fringe orders along straight lines provided the input information on the external boundary of the hybrid element. In order to see the effects of varying stress field, different numbers of terms in a power-series representation of the complex type conformal mapping stress function were tested. For qualitative comparison, actual isochromatic fringes were compared with reconstructed theoretical fringes using stress-optic law. For quantitative comparison, relative errors and standard deviations with respective to relative errors were analyzed for all measured points by changing the number of terms of stress function. The hybrid results are highly comparable with those predicted by FEA. The results show that this approach is effective and promising because isochromatic data along the straight lines in photoelasticity can be conveniently measured by use of phase shifting photoelasticity.

  • Nowadays, Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry is a well-established measuring technique with a wide range of industrial applications, particularly in the fields of deformation measurement and vibration analysis. Comparing with holographic interferometry, it has some attractive features, which are rapid recording and reconstruction, satisfiable automation etc. The Time-Average ESPI is used to provide vibration mode shape of an object whose vibration amplitude is given as a fringe pattern. Its merit is rapid and simple measurement for vibrating object. However, it is not possible to determine the direction of motions of a point on the object at any given time, because it does not give any information about the phase of vibration. But, Stroboscopic ESPI can measure the amplitude and phase of vibrating surface. In this paper, loudspeakers were tested by these two methods. As a result, we can assume that these techniques will be applied directly in the loudspeaker industry.

  • A multi-purpose polariscope is developed by applying an electro-mechanical control system to a diffused transmission-type circular polariscope. A conventional polariscope is only good for manual control of optical elements. The new polariscope system is devised to be controlled through two stepping motors and two magnetic clutches. The developed system has both functions of a conventional linear- and circular-polariscope. The new polariscope can be used not only for the point-wise measurement using Tardy compensation technique but also for the full-field fringe analysis using conventional and/or phase measuring techniques, if applicable.

  • Thermo-mechanical behavior of flip-chip plastic ball grid array (FC-PBGA) packages are characterized by high sensitive $Moir{\acute{e}}$ interferometry. $Moir{\acute{e}}$ fringe patterns are recorded and analyzed for several temperatures. Deformation analysis of bending displacements of the packages and average strains in the solder balls for a single-sided package assembly and a double-sided package assembly are presented. The bending displacement of the double-sided package assembly is smaller than that of the single-sided one. The largest of effective strain occurred in the solder ball located at the edge of the chip and its magnitude of the double-sided package assembly is greater than that of single-sided one.
