A numerical simulation of the nonsteady state rolling process in the plane strain condition is presented in the basis of the rigid-plastic finite element method by considering large deformation. In order to apply the large deformation theory to the numerical method for sheet rolling problems, constitutive equation relating 2nd-Piola Kirchhoff stress and Lagrangian strain which reflect geometrical nonlinearity is used. To confirm the validity of the developed algorithm, the analysis of the neutral flow region, roll separating force, torque, pressure and stress/strain distributions on the workpiece is conducted from the bite of the material until the steady state is reached. The computed results of the roll force and torque in the present finite element analysis are lower than those corresponding to small strain theory. The pressure distribution at the work piece-roll interface is found to show the typical 'friction hill' type only. The peak value in near the neutral region, however, is good agrements with the existing results. the neutral region, however, is good agrements with the existing results. The frictional force at the roll interface provide detailed information about the neutral point where the shear forces change direction. In addition, the analysis also includes the effect and influence of material condition, strip thickness, work roll diameter, as well as roll speed and lubricant on each deformation process.
In recently designed diesel engines, the running conditions for piston-pin bearings have become severe because of the higher combustion pressure and increased temperature. Moreover, the metal removal from the bushing material has strongly reduced the ability of the antifriction material to accept asperity contacts. Therefore, it is necessary to find ways of reducing wear scar on the connecting-rod small-end bushing and piston-pin boss bearing related to the higher combustion pressure on the power cell of an engine. In this work, the position and level of material removal from the surfaces of the bushing and bearing under such severe operating conditions - for example, maximum power and torque conditions of a passenger car diesel engine - are estimated for several combinations of surface roughness. First, piston-pin rotating motion is investigated by calculating the friction coefficient at piston-pin bearings, the oil film thickness, and the frictional torques induced by hydrodynamic shear stress. Subsequently, the wear scarring on the surfaces of a connecting-rod small-end bushing and two piston-pin boss bearings related to piston-pin rotational motion is numerically calculated under the maximum power and torque operating conditions. This work is helpful to determine the reasonable surface roughness of the bushing and bearing for reducing wear volume occurring at the interface between a bearing and a shaft.
When a bolt is tightened up to the range of plastic deformation, yielding may be governed by the combined stresses due to the axial force developed in the bolt and the frictional torque induced on the thread by the contact with the nut. Consideration is taken account of the fact that the unengaged portion of the thread has least sectional area, being subject to initial yielding. Once yielding has taken place some strain hardening effect may result. Incremental stress-strain relations are used to treat the continued yielding, which is equivalent to treat continued yielding as if summing up the effects of thin walled cylinders subject to plastic deformation. M10 bolts of fine threads are used for both computational and experimental purposes. Variation of axial forces and frictional torques vs. the frictional coefficients are presented together with other plots showing some characterist of bolt under plastic deformation. Finally, a design and control aid for the tightening(i.e., kind of nomograph) is presented, showing the relationships among the torque factor and frictional coefficients for that particular bolt used in the experiment.

As micro screws feature reduced screw lengths and pitches, the resulting clamping force diminishes because of the reduced length of the actual joints. The elements of the clamping force are material, geometry, and friction. We studied the shrinking size of the screw and the methods to improve the clamping force by changing the material. We developed a micro screw using SWCH18A and SUS XM7 materials, and obtained the precision and thickness of the pitch through three-dimensional measurement. We also measured the external resistance of the micro screw by applying the Vicker's hardness test and conducted a break surface analysis using a break torque test and SEM for obtaining the break characteristics.

Dynamometer is a device for testing the performance of the brake and it is composed of a test zone, the mechanical inertia zone, the electric motor and the control zone. Hybrid dynamometer is a way to compensate for the loss of mechanical inertia in accordance with the brake operation by using an electric motor to reduce the size of the mechanical inertia with the advantage that can be tested in the relatively small size of the mechanical inertia and low cost. In this paper, design the proper size of hybrid dynamometer in the laboratory level with the space constraints, analysed the effect of critical parameter on the braking performance of hybrid dynamometer such as changing the friction coefficient. With this study, could get the results of guideline to judge the poor friction material by measuring the torque of the electric motor to compensate the energy loss due to a reduced mechanical inertia.
The use of barley seeder attached to rotary tiller in the rural area has a significant meaning not only for the solution of labor peak season, but also for the increase of land utilization efficiency. The facts that presently being used barley seeders are all based on the mechanical principles of the reverse rotation, center drive and are all using forward rotating tine, which is used to be easily and heavily worn out when it rotates reversely, raise problem of recommending them to rural area in Korea. Therefore, the main objective of the study was to develop new type of rotary tine attachable to barley seeders. To attain the objective the following approaches were applied. (1) The kinematic analysis of reverse rotating barley seeders. (2) The studies on the soil bin and artificial soil. (3) The comparative experiment on the power requirement of prototype tine. The results obtained from the studies are summarized as follow: 1. The kinematic analysis of barley seeder attached to rotary tiller: The following results were obtained from the kinematic analysis for deriving general formulae of the motion and velocity characterizing the rotary tine of barley seeders presently being used by farmers. a) The position vector (P) of edge point (P) in the rotary tine of reverse rotating, center drive was obtained by the following formula. $$P=(vt+Rcos wt)i+Rsin wt j+ \{ Rcos \theta r sin \alpha cos (wt- \beta +\theta r) +Rsin \theta r sin \alpha sin (wt-\beta + \theta r) \} lk $$ b) The velocity of edge point $(P^')$ of reverse rotating, center drive rotary tine was obtained by the following formula. $$(P^')=(V-wR sin wt)i+(w\cdot Rcoswt)j + \{ -w\cdot Rcos \theta r\cdot sin \alpha \cdot sin (wt-\beta +\theta r) + w\cdot Rsin \theta r\cdot sin \alpha \cdot cos (wt- \beta + \theta r \} k $$ c) In order to reduce the power requirement of rotary tine, the angle between holder and edge point was desired to be reduced. d) In order to reduce the power requirement, the edge point of rotary tine should be moved from the angle at the begining of cutting to center line of machine, and the additional cutting width should be also reduced. 2. The studies on the soil bin and artificial soil: In order to measure the power requirement of various cutting tines under the same physical condition of soil, the indoor experiments Viere conducted by filling soil bin with artificially made soil similar to the common paddy soil and the results were as follows: a) When the rolling frequencies$(x)$ of the artificial soil were increased, the densIty$(Y)$ was also increased as follows: $$y=1.073200 +0.070780x - 0.002263x^2 (g/cm^3)$$ b) The absolute hardness $(Y)$ of soil had following relationship with the rolling frequencies$(x)$ and were increased as the rolling frequencies were increased. $$Y=37.74 - \frac {0.64 + 0.17x-0. 0054x^2} {(3.36-0.17x + 0.0054x^2)^3} (kg/cm^3)$$ c) The density of soil had significant effect on the cohesion and angle of internal friction of soil. For instance, the soil with density of 1.6 to 1.75 had equivalent density of sandy loam soil with 29.5% of natural soil moisture content. d) The coefficient of kinetiic friction of iron plate on artificial soil was 0.31 to 0.41 and was comparable with that of the natural soil. e) When the pulling speed of soil bin was the 2nd forward speed of power tiller, the rpm of driving shaft of rotary was similar to that of power tiller, soil bin apparatus is indicating the good indoor tester. 3. The comparative experiment on the power requirement of prototype tine of reverse rotating rotary: According to the preliminary test of rotary tine developed with various degrees of angle between holder and edge pcint due to the kinematic analysis, comparative test between prototype rotary tine with $30 ^\circ $ and $10 ^\circ$ of it and presently being used rotary tine was carried out 2nd the results were as follows: a) The total cutting torque was low when the angle between holder and edge point was reduced. b) $\theta r$ (angle between holder and edge point) of rotary tine seemed to be one: of the factors maximizing the increase of torque. c) As the angle between holder and edge point ($\theta r$) of rotary tine was $30 ^\circ $ rather than $45 ^\circ $, the angle of rotation during cutting soil was reduced and the total cutting torque was accordingly reduced about 10%, and the reduction efficiency of total cutting torque was low when the angle between holder and edge point ($\theta r$) of rotary tine was $10 ^\circ $, which indicates that the proper angle between holder and edge point of rotary tine should be larger than $10 ^\circ $ and smaller than $30 ^\circ $ . From above results, it could be concluded that the use of the prototype rotary tine which reduced the angle between holder and edge point to $30 ^\circ $, insted of $45 ^\circ $, is disirable not only decreasing the power requirements, but also increasing the durabie hour of it. Also forward researches are needed, WIlich determine the optimum tilted angle of rotary brocket, and rearrangement of the rotary tine on the rotary boss.
This study was attempted to improve the thermal efficiency of 6 kW water-cooled diesel engine on power tiller. The engine performance tests were conducted to find out the effect of cooling water capacity of 2700cc, 2800cc, 2900cc, 3000cc, 3100cc on power, brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), torque, temperature of cooling water and lubricating oil and friction losses of the engine with D. C. dynamometer. The results obtained in the study are summarized as follows: 1. The performance of the engine tested was adequated to Korea Industrial Standard but actual economy power was 10% higher than the labeled rated power of the engine. The BSFC of the engine tested 297.8g/kW-h which is belong a little higher level than hreign products. The temperature of cooling water was $101^{\circ}C$ which is higher than SAE standard ($88^{\circ}C$) 2. The friction losses of engine tested was 3.656 kW at 2200 rpm of rated rpm (piston speed 6.97m/sec) and is higher than those of foreign products. 3. When the cooling water capacity was increased from 2700cc to 3100cc the power output of the engine was increased from 6.7 kW to 7.13 kW at the rate of 6.4% and also the torque of the engine was increased from 28.85 N.m to 30.76 N.m at the rate of 6.39%. 4. When the cooling water capacity was increased from 2700cc to 3100cc, the BSFC was decreased 6.9g/kW-h from 310.9g/kW-h to 304.1g/kW-h, and after one half hour operation with full load, the temperature of cooling water was decreased $13^{\circ}C$ from $101^{\circ}C$ to $88^{\circ}C$ and also the temperature of lubricant oil was decreased $6.4^{\circ}C$ from $76.7^{\circ}C$ to $70.4^{\circ}C$. 5. The mechanical efficiency was increased from 70.08% to 71.08% when the cooling water capacity was increased from 2700cc to 3100cc.

4WD technology is being actively applied to passenger cars. Therefore, dry multi-plate clutches are used for transfer cases. On the other hand, dry clutches have problems related to large vibrations and poor ride quality. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a multi-plate clutch with an MR fluid. When fastening the multi-plate clutch in the transfer case, the proposed MR clutch was applied to reduce the shock and friction, which is a key component in a four-wheel-drive system. MR multi-plate clutch has a fluid coupling mode and a compression mode. A torque model equation was derived for the optimal design. The analysis was performed using Ansys Maxwell to optimize the design parameters of the multi-plate clutch. Electromagnetic field analysis confirmed the strength of the magnetic field when the number of disks and plates were changed, and the maximum strength of the magnetic field was 0.45 Tesla. By applying this to the torque equation, the spacing between the plates was 2 mm, and the inner and outer diameters of the plates were selected to be 45 mm and 55 mm, respectively. Overall, this paper proposes an optimal design technique to maximize the performance of an MR multi-plate clutch.

The round bale wrappers are generally used for rice straw after the harvesting of low land rice by combine harvester. In this situation, the bale wrappers should be well adapted under the travelling over raised borders and temporary ditches in soft soil of narrow rice fields. The study was conducted to improve the performance of bale wrapper through the new design for compact size, lowered gravity center and lowered power consumption. The prototype of round bale wrapper had been designed and assembled to tractor with three point hitch mounted. The machine type is one roll driving system with one roll for rotating and one roll for wrapping. The driving torque and work performance of the machines were measured and analysed. The torque requirement of the prototype and conventional type was 6kgf-m and 12kgf-m, respectively. The prototype shaved less friction resistance between bale driving roll and round bale. and the power requirement can also be reduced from 12kgf-m in the conventional to 6kgf-m in the prototype. The work efficiency of the new bale wrapper was $45\%$ higher than the conventional wrapper, and the working cost of the prototype can be reduced $17\%$ than that of the conventional.

This paper investigates the dynamic behavior of a HDD spindle system due to the imperfect roundness of a rotating shaft. The shaft of a spindle motor rotates with eccentricity by the unbalanced mass of the rotating part. The eccentricity generates the run-out of a spindle motor which results in the eccentric motion of a rotating part. Roundness of a shaft affects this motion which limits the memory capacity of a HDD. This research proposes a modified Reynolds equation for the coupled journal and thrust FDBs to include the variable film thickness due to the roundness. Finite element method is used to solve the Reynolds equation for the pressure distribution. Reaction forces and friction torque are obtained by integrating the pressure and shear stress, respectively. The dynamic behavior is determined by solving the equations of a motion of a HDD spindle system in six degrees of freedom with the Runge-Kutta method to characterize the motion of a rotating part. This research shows that the roundness of a rotating shaft causes the excitation frequency with integer multiple of a rotating frequency.
