  • This paper deals with the free vibrations of elastica shaped arches. The elastica shaped arches are formed by the post-buckled column whose arc length is always constant. The equations governing free, planar vibration of general arch in open literature are modified for applying the free vibrations of elastica shaped arch and solved numerically to obtain frequencies and mode shapes for hinged-hinged, clamped-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints. The effects of rotatory inertia, rise ratio and slenderness ratio on natural frequencies are presented. The frequencies of elastica shaped arches are greater than those of parabolic shaped ones. Also, typical mode shapes are presented in figures.

  • An high frequency induction hardening technology of vehicle body press-formed of thin sheet steel has been developed to increase the strength of vehicle body parts locally by high frequency induction heating, thereby eliminating the need for reinforcements. And this technique for increasing the tensile strength of sheet steel was practically applied to the front floor cross member and center pillar reinforcement of a passenger car. The side impact behavior has been investigated when induction hardening technology is applied to the conventional low-carbon steel and weight reduction of an automotive body is expected. In this paper, basic experiments were performed for the hat-shaped specimen under high frequency induction heating process. Martensitic transformation was found in the heating zone through microscopic observation which showed higher hardness. In addition, the hardness and strength of the center-pillar specimen made of boron steel increased remarkably by high frequency induction heating.

  • Generally, the frequency of set makes ICI and degrades OPDM system performance. Thus, we propose a pulse shaped OFDM to give robustness against the frequency offset. The proposed OFDM system uses pulse shaping with smooth shape, instead of rectangular pulse shape, to reduce the power of ICI. The proposed scheme always gives performance gain in comparing with the convention one, when the frequency offset exists. In addition, the smoother pulse shape is employed in the proposed system, the more performance gain is obtained.

  • In this paper, a planar half-circle shape ultra-wideband(UWB) antenna fed by CPW is designed, fabricated and measured for UWB communications. Within the UWB band(3.1 GHz${\~}$10.6 GHz), 5.15 GHz${\~}$5.825 GHz frequency band is used by IEEE 802.1la WLAN applications. It may be necessary to notch out this band to avoid interference with IEEE 802.1la WLAN. Therefore, we have proposed three kinds of UWB antennas having a notch function, such as a rectangular slot, a hat-shaped slot a circle-shaped slot. The notch frequency of the proposed antenna can be adjusted by controlling the slot length or slot width. From the measured results, the proposed antennas show a good gain flatness except the IEEE 802.1la WLAN frequency band and have a reasonable agreement with simulated results.

  • This paper presents the magnetic fields shielding properties of the light rail transit which are produced by the ripple-shaped currents in the power lines. To analyze these properties, the equivalent circuit model of the DC power supply system at the light rail transit system was induced by MATLAB-SIMULINK, and with the calculated results of the ripple-shaped currents, the magnetic fields shielding properties of the light rail transit were analyzed. The results are as follows. First The frequency of the ripple-shaped currents is 200[Hz] and its magnitude is 1.5[A]. Second the magnetic fields produced by the ripple-shaped currents of the DC power supply systems are well shielded by the aluminum made body of the light rail transit.

  • C-shaped canals are known to present a complex canal anatomy with numerous fins connecting individual canals, thus requiring supplementary effort to accomplish a successful root canal treatment. This study examined the frequency of the C-shaped mandibular second molars and interrelation between the clinical records and radiographs to recognize them treated in the Department of Conservative Dentistry of the Chosun University Dental Hospital during a six-year period (1998-2004). This study reviewed the clinical records of 227 patients who underwent root canal treatment of the mandibular second molars. After opening the chamber, those cases with C-shaped orifices in the pulpal floor were selected, ana the C-shaped root canal types were classified according to Melton's criteria. Three experienced dentists evaluated the radiographs of the C-shaped mandibular second molar on a viewer using a magnifying glass in order to determine if the root apex was fused or separated, the distal root canal was either centered or mesial shifted in the distal root, and if there was bilateral symmetry in a panorama. In conclusion, there is a high frequency of C-shaped mandibular second molars in Koreans. Simultaneous interpretation of the root shape and distal root canal using the preoperative, working length and post-treatment radiographs is important for diagnosing a C-shaped mandibular second molar.

  • In the present study, oblique L-shaped monopole slot antenna with broadband characteristic is newly proposed. For bandwidth enhancement as well as size reduction, L-shaped slot with two open-terminations on the ground edge is used. The lower part of L-shaped slot comprises oblique form for bandwidth enhancement in low frequency band, whereas its higher part comprise tapered form for its enhancement in high frequency band. The short-circuit terminated microstrip line which is generally known to be more useful for bandwidth enhancement than open-circuit termination is used. The measured impedance bandwidth($S_{11}{\leq}-10dB$) and gain of the fabricated antenna have been observed to be 4.72 GHz (2.28~7 GHz) and more than 3dBi over the passband respectively.

  • In this paper, a dual-band T-shaped microstrip monopole antenna with a pair of slits for 2.4/5.2/5.8-GHz wireless local area networks (WLANs) is proposed. A pair of T-shaped slits is loaded on a T-shaped monopole antenna fed by microstrip line in order to obtain dual-band operation as well as to reduce the antenna size. It is demonstrated from experimental results that the proposed antenna can cover all the required bands for WLAN. The measured impedance bandwidth for VSWR<2 is about 5.7% (2.37-2.51GHz) in the lower frequency band and about 28.8% (4.76-6.35GHz) in the higher frequency band. The measured peak gains are about 1.33 dBi to 1.66 dBi in the 2.4GHz band, 3.50 dBi to 3.95 dBi in the 5.25GHz band, and 2.06 dBi to 2.34 dBi in the 5.8GHz band.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence of root fusion and C-shaped root canals in maxillary molars, and to classify the types of C-shaped canal by analyzing cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in a Korean population. Materials and Methods: Digitized CBCT images from 911 subjects were obtained in Chosun University Dental Hospital between February 2010 and July 2012 for orthodontic treatment. Among them, a total of selected 3,553 data of maxillary molars were analyzed retrospectively. Tomography sections in the axial, coronal, and sagittal planes were displayed by PiViewstar and Rapidia MPR software (Infinitt Co.). The incidence and types of root fusion and C-shaped root canals were evaluated and the incidence between the first and the second molar was compared using Chi-square test. Results: Root fusion was present in 3.2% of the first molars and 19.5% of the second molars, and fusion of mesiobuccal and palatal root was dominant. C-shaped root canals were present in 0.8% of the first molars and 2.7% of the second molars. The frequency of root fusion and C-shaped canal was significantly higher in the second molar than the first molar (p < 0.001). Conclusions: In a Korean population, maxillary molars showed total 11.3% of root fusion and 1.8% of C-shaped root canals. Furthermore, root fusion and C-shaped root canals were seen more frequently in the maxillary second molars.

  • A microstrip feedline based open ended folded-slot antenna is proposed for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The prototype of the proposed antenna is fabricated on the FR4 dielectric substrate. The proposed antenna has a wide n-shaped slot that is useful for designing circuit components on the same printed circuit board (PCB) as that of the radio frequency (RF) modules. The proposed antenna use two kinds of slots as radiators, and each slots have different characteristics because of the different type of ends of the slot. The wideband characteristic can be obtained by resonances of each slot which are occurred at different frequencies. The measured impedance bandwidth (S11≤ -10 dB) is 2.9-11.56 GHz, and the antenna peak gain is 2-4 dBi over the UWB range. The antenna has a stable omni-directional radiation pattern and only a small group-delay variation across the UWB passband. In addition, we present a modified design with band-notched characteristics of a 5 GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) frequency band.
