  • In concrete pavements with uniform tining space, the whine noise which has high frequency spectrum related to the uniform tining space exist. In this paper, randomization procedure of tining space for concrete pavements is proposed. The proposed procedure developed based on the LCG(Linear Congruential Generator) algorithm. And the factor concerned in the procedure are drag span length, number of different tining space, ratio of each tining space, total tinings of each size, sequence of actual tining.

  • There are many uncertain parameters associated with vibration components. Their physical parameters, the machining quality of vibration components, and the applied load acting on them are all uncertain. As a result, the natural frequency and the fatigue limits are also uncertain variables. In this paper, we express these parameters of vibration components and the frequency zone of resonance through interval models; this way, the robust reliability of the vibration components is defined. The robust reliability model measures and assesses the reliability of vibration components. The robust reliability of a cantilever beam is evaluated as an example. The results show that this method is reasonable for robust reliability analysis of vibration components because it does not require a large amount of failure data, it avoids the evaluation of the probability density function, and the computation is simple.

  • A continuum-based design sensitivity analysis and topology optimization methods are developed for power flow analysis. Efficient adjoint sensitivity analysis method is employed and further extended to topology optimization problems. Young's moduli of all the finite elements are selected as design variables and parameterized using a bulk material density function. The objective function and constraint are an energy compliance of the system and an allowable volume fraction, respectively. A gradient-based optimization, the modified method of feasible direction, is used to obtain the optimal material layout. Through several numerical examples, we notice that the developed design sensitivity analysis method is very accurate and efficient compared with the finite difference sensitivity. Also, the topology optimization method provides physically meaningful results. The developed is design sensitivity analysis method is very useful to systematically predict the impact on the design variations. Furthermore, the topology optimization method can be utilized in the layout design of structural systems.

  • In this paper, we derive the outage probability of cellular mobile system with STTB(Space Time Transmitter Diversity) scheme where the received radio signals and interferers experience Rayleigh fading and AWGN. The new probability density function of L independent identically distributed interferers is derived using Laplace transforms. We express the probability of outage as a function of the average-signal to average-interference power ratio and the signal to noise ratio. In addition, the frequency reuse distance which is one of the key parameters in the design of cellular systems is analyzed.

  • The effects of stiffeners on the modal characteristics of rectangular plates are investigated. A modeling method for the modal analysis of rectangular plates with stiffeners is presented. A mass density Dirac's delta function is used to idealize the stiffeners mathematically. The equations of motion for the plates are derived and transformed into a dimensionless form. To confirm the accuracy of the method presented in this study, numerical result are obtained and compared to those of a commercial program. The mode shape variations due to some parameter variations are also exhibited.

  • The effects of air velocity and excess air on combustion characteristics were studied in a fluidized bed combustor. The domestic low-grade anthracite coal with heating value of 2010 kcal/kg and the imported bituminous coal from Australia with heating value of 6520 kcal/kg were used as coal samples. The combustion characteristics of mixed fuels in a fluidized bed combustor could be interpreted by pressure fluctuation properties, ash distribution and gas emission. The properties of the pressure fluctuations, such as the standard deviation, cross-correlation function, dominant frequency and the power spectral density function, were obtained from the statistical analysis. From this study, the combustion region increased with increasing air velocity but decreased with excess air due to combustion characteristics of anthracite and bituminous coal.

  • In this study, normal, log-normal, triangular, uniform. Weibull, Erlang and unit beta probability density functions are tried to represent the behaviour of frequency distributions of workpiece dimensions collected from various manufacturing firms. Among the distribution functions, the unit beta distribution function is found to be the best fit using the chi-square test of fit. An attempt is made for the adoption of the unit beta model to x-bar charts of quality control in manufacturing. In this direction, upper and lower control limits (UCL and LCL) of x-bar control charts of dimension measurements are estimated for the beta model, and the observed differences between the beta and normal model control limits are discussed for the measurement sets.

  • In this paper, the mobile communication CH simulator is implemented in the baseband, using the Digital Signal Processor(TMS320C25), A/D and D/A converters. The Rayleigh CH is modeled by shaping the random noise source power spectrum. The statistical characteristics(Level Crossing Rate, Cumulative distribution Function, Probability Density Function) and the received fading signal's power's spectrum is observed when the doppler frequency is varied according to the variation of the vehicular velocity at the 222MHz band. And also the BER is measured when the baseband mobile CH simulator is applied to the GMSK(Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying` transmission rate: 16kbps, Bb T=0.25) modulator. The results shows the similar characteristics to be compared with the theoritically derived BER values of the discriminator type GMSK detection.

  • In the nonlinear dynamic structural analysis the given ground excitation as an input should be well defined. Because of the lack of recorded accelerograms in Korea it is required to generate an artificial earthquake by a stochastic model of ground excitation with various dynamic properties rather than recorded accelerograms. It is well known that earthquake motions are generally non-stationary with time-varying intensity and frequency content. Many researchers have proposed non-stationary random process models. Yeh and Wen (1990) proposed a non-stationary modulation function and a power spectral density function to describe such non-stationary characteristics. Satio and Wen(1994) proposed a non-stationary stochastic process model to generate earthquake ground motions which are compatible with design reponse spectrum at sites in Japan. this paper shows the process to modify power spectrum compatible with target design response spectrum for generating of nonstationary artificial earthquake ground motions. Target reponse spectrum is chosen by ATC14 to calibrate the response spectrum according to a give recurrence period.

  • The equations of motion for rotating contilever beams with a concentrated mass loated in an arbitrary position are derived. For the modeling of the concentrated mass the Dirac delta function is used for the mass density function. Parametric studies are performed with five dimensionless variables ; natural frequencies, angular velocity, hub radius, concentrated mass, and the mass location. The concentrated mass, whereverit may locate, lowers the natural frequencies of a stationaly beam. However, when the beam rotates, the natural frequencies(if they increase or decrease) are dictated by the location of the concentrated mass.
