A repeated batch fermentation system was used to produce ethanol using $Saccharomyces$$cerevisiae$ strain (NCIM 3640) immobilized on sugarcane ($Saccharum$$officinarum$ L.) pieces. For comparison free cells were also used to produce ethanol by repeated batch fermentation. Scanning electron microscopy evidently showed that cell immobilization resulted in firm adsorption of the yeast cells within subsurface cavities, capillary flow through the vessels of the vascular bundle structure, and attachment of the yeast to the surface of the sugarcane pieces. Repeated batch fermentations using sugarcane supported biocatalyst were successfully carried out for at least ten times without any significant loss in ethanol production from sugarcane juice and molasses. The number of cells attached to the support increased during the fermentation process, and fewer yeast cells leaked into fermentation broth. Ethanol concentrations (about 72.65-76.28 g/L in an average value) and ethanol productivities (about 2.27-2.36 g/L/hr in an average value) were high and stable, and residual sugar concentrations were low in all fermentations (0.9-3.25 g/L) with conversions ranging from 98.03-99.43%, showing efficiency 91.57-95.43 and operational stability of biocatalyst for ethanol fermentation. The results of the work pertaining to the use of sugarcane as immobilized yeast support could be promising for industrial fermentations.

This paper shows the behaviors of macro- and micro-structures and mechanical properties for specimen's welding region welded by FSW. according to welding conditions with 5mm thickness aluminum 5083O alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone in case traverse speed was changed to 32 mm/min under conditions of anti-clockwise direction and tool rotation speed such as 800 and 1250 rpm with tool's pin diameter of 5 ${\Phi}mm$ and shoulder diameter of 20 ${\Phi}mm$, pin length of 4.5 mm and tilting angle of $2^{\circ}$. The ultimate stress of ${\sigma}_T=331$ MPa and the yield point of 147 MPa are obtained at the condition of the travel speed of 32 mm/min with the tool rotation speed of 1250 rpm. There is neither voids nor cracks on bended surface of $180^{\circ}$ after bending test. The improvement of toughness after impact test was found. The lower rotating and traverse speed became, the higher were yield point, maximum stress and elongation(%) with the stresses and the elongation(%) versus the traverse speed diagram. Vickers hardness for cross section of welding zone were also presented. The typical macro-structures such as dynamically recrystallized zone, thermo-mechanically affected zone and heat affected zone and the micro-structures of the transverse cross-section were also showed. However, the author found out that the region of 6mm far away from shoulder circumference was affected by friction heat comprehensively, that is, hardness softened and that part of micro-structures were re-solid-solution or recrystallized, the author also knew that there is no mechanically deformation on heat affected zone but there are the flow of plastic deformation of $45^{\circ}$ direction on thermo-mechanically affected zone and the segregation of Al-Mg on nugget. The solid solution wt(%) of parent material as compared against of friction stir welded zone was comprehensively changed.

YB $a_2$C $u_3$$O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) films were deposited on (100) SrTi $O_3$ single crystal substrates by a metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) system of hot-wall type using single liquid source. Under the condition of the mole ratio of Y(tmhd)$_3$:Ba(tmhd)$_2$:Cu(tmhd)$_2$= 1:2.1:2.9. the deposition pressure of 10 Torr. the MO source line speed of 15 cm/min. the Ar/ $O_2$ flow rate of 800/800 sccm. YBCO films were prepared at the deposition temperatures of 780∼89$0^{\circ}C$. In case of the YBCO films with 2.2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness deposited for 6 minutes at 86$0^{\circ}C$. XRD pattern showed complete c-axis growth and SEM morphology showed dense and crack-free surface. The atomic ratios of Ba/Y and Cu/Ba in the film were 1.92 and 1.56. respectively. The deposition rate of the film was as high as 0.37 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/min. The critical temperature ( $T_{c.zero}$) of the film was 87K. The critical current of the film was 104 A/cm-width. and the critical current density was 0.47 MA/$\textrm{cm}^2$. For the thinner film of 1.3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness. the critical current density of 0.62 MA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ was obtained.d.
Silicon direct bonding technology is very attractive for both silicon-on-insulator devices and sensor fabrication because of its thermal stress free structure and stability. The process of SDB includes hydration of silicon wafer and heat treatment in a wet oxidation furnace. After hydration process, hydroxyl groups of silicon wafer were analyzed by using Fourier transformation-infrared spectroscopy. In case of hydrophilic treatment using a ($H_{2}O_{2}\;:\;H_{2}SO_{4}$) solution, hydroxyl groups are observed in a broad band around the 3474 $cm^{-1}$ region. However, hydroxyl groups do not appear in case of diluted HF solution. The bonded wafer was etched by using tetramethylammonium hydroxide etchant. The surface of the self etch-stopped silicon dioxide is completely flat, so that it can be used as sensor applications such as pressure, flow and acceleration, etc..
A shoreline, which has no the water depth, moves continuously as waves rise up and recede. Therefore, a special boundary treatment is required to track properly the movements of the shoreline in numerical modeling of the behavior of tsunamis or tides near a coastal zone. In this study, convective terms in nonlinear shallow-water equations are discretized explicitly by using a second-order upwind scheme to describe a moving shoreline more accurately. An oscillatory flow motion in a circular paraboloidal basin has been employed to validate the performance of the developed numerical model. Computed results of instantaneous free surface displacements are compared with those of analytical solutions and existing numerical solutions. The run-up heights in the vicinity of a circular island have also been calculated and obtained numerical results have been shown against available laboratory measurements. A good agreement has been observed.

In this study, numerical analyses for slamming impact phenomena have been carried out using a 2-dimensional wedge shaped structure having finite deadrise angles. Fluid is assumed incompressible and entry speed of the structure is kept constant. Geo-reconstruct(or PLIC-VOF) scheme is used for the tracking of the deforming free surface. Numerical analyses are carried out for the deadrise angles of $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$ and $30^{\circ}$. For each deadrise angle, variations are made for the grid size on the wedge bottom and for the entry speed. The magnitude and the location of impact pressure and the total drag force, which is the summation of pressure distributed at the bottom of the structure, are analyzed. Results of the analyses are compared with the results of the Dobrovol'skaya similarity solutions, the asymptotic solution based on the Wagner method and the solution of Boundary Element Method(BEM).

Consumption of the fuel on the satellite operating in low earth orbit, is increased due to the air resistance and the amount of increase makes the satellite lifetime decrease or the satellite mass risen. Therefore the prediction of drag force of the satellite is important. In the paper, drag force and drag coefficient analysis of the parabolic antenna satellite in low earth orbit using direct simulation monte carlo method (DSMC) is conducted according to the mission altitude and angle of attack. To verify the DSMC simulated rarefied air movement, Starshine satellite drag coefficient according to the altitude and gas-surface interaction are compared with the flight data. Finally, from the analysis results, it leads to appropriate satellite drag coefficient for orbit lifetime calculation.

Background: Chronic pain reportedly exerts complex effects on immune function. Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes that play a critical role in cellular and innate immunity. This study examined changes in the subset populations and cytotoxic activity of peripheral blood NK cells in patients with chronic pain. Methods: Thirty patients with chronic moderate-to-severe pain (group P) and age-matched pain-free subjects (group NoP) were enrolled. Peripheral whole blood was analyzed for the percentage and expression of NK cell surface markers (CD56 and CD16) by flow cytometry. Cytotoxic activity was assayed by evaluating CD69 expression on $CD3^-/CD56^+NK$ cells. Results: The percentage of NK cells among total lymphocytes was not significantly different between groups P and NoP ($16.3{\pm}9.3$ vs. $20.2{\pm}10.5%$). Likewise, the percentages of two major NK cell subsets, $CD56^{bright}$ and $CD56^{dim}$, were also not significantly different between the two groups. However, the percentage of $CD56^{bright}/CD16^+$ subset, was slightly but significantly increased in group P ($1.0{\pm}0.9%$; P< 0.01) compared with group NoP ($0.5{\pm}0.6%$). The cytotoxicity of NK cells was not different between the two groups, showing similar CD69 expression (P vs. $NoP=29.2{\pm}15.2$ vs. $32.0{\pm}15.0%$). These findings were not influenced by pain intensity, opioid use, or disease causing pain in group P. Conclusions: NK cell cytotoxic activity and major subset populations, with the exception of an increased percentage of the $CD56^{bright}/CD16^+$ subset, are not significantly altered in patients with chronic severe pain.

A two-dimensional numerical method for inviscid two-fluid flows with evolution of density interface is developed, and an initially stationary two-dimensional fluid sheet surrounded by another fluid is studied. The interface between two fluids is modeled as a vortex sheet, and the flow field with the evolution of interface is solved by using vortex-in-cell/front-tracking method. The edge of the sheet is pulled back into the sheet due to surface tension and a blob is formed at the edge. This blob and fluid sheet are connected by a thin neck. In the inviscid limit, such process of the blob and neck formation is examined in detail and their kinematic characteristics are summarized with dimensionless parameters. The edge recedes at and the capillary wave propagating into the fluid sheet must be considered for better understanding of the edge receding.
A numerical model for the solution of two-dimensional free surface flow is developed on unstructured grid. By using fractional step method, the two-dimensional shallow water equations (SWE) are treated as two one-dimensional problems. Thus, it is possible to simulate computational hydraulic problems with higher computational efficiency. The one-dimensional problems are solved using upwind TVD version of second-order Weighted Averaged Flux (WAF) scheme with HLLC approximate Riemann solver. The numerical oscillations which are common with second-order numerical scheme are controlled by exploiting WAF flux limiter, Some idealized test problems are solved using this model and very accurate and stable solutions are obtained. It can be concluded as an efficient implement for the computation of SWE including dam break problems that concerning discontinuities, subcritical and supercritical flows and complex domain.
