  • The Rayleigh-Taylor instability, the bubble rising in both partially and fully filled containers and the droplet splash are simulated by an in-house solution code(PowerCFD), which are typical benchmark problems among multiphase flows with material interface due to density difference. The present method(code) employs an unstructured cell-centered method based on a conservative pressure-based finite-volume method with interface capturing method(CICSAM) in a volume of fluid(VOF) scheme for phase interface capturing. The present results are compared with other numerical solutions found in the literature. It is found that the present method simulates efficiently and accurately complex free surface flows such as multiphase flows with material interface due to both density difference and instability.

  • To analyze the ocean wave more efficiently, more fine grids are used with relatively less computer memory. Each element of free surface is discretized into more fine grids because the ocean waves are much influenced by the mesh used in the finite difference scheme. According to the flow analysis, remarkable improvements could be seen in the free surface generation. The multi grid is applied to confirm the validity of scheme. The Baldwin Lomax turbulence model is used for the analysis of S103 Inuid ship. Finally some discussion on experiments was made for the physical phenomena of the viscous

  • This paper describes a numerical study to make clear the characteristics of flow around a high speed catamaran hull advancing on calm water. The simulation is carried out at Froude number of 0.5 with a separation to length rations of 0.2 to 0.5. To simulate the flows, the Navier-Stokes solver is employed in which the free surface condition is included. Computations are performed in a rectangular grid system based grid system based on the Marker & Cell method. For the validation, the computation results are compared with the experiments.

  • A Navier-Stokes code based on a unstructured finite volume method is used to simulate the MIT flapping foil experiment. A low Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model is used to close the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations. Computations are carried out for a domain involving two flapping foils and a downstream hydrofoil. The computational domain is meshed with unstructured quadrilateral elements, partly structured. Numerical solutions show good agreement with experiment. Unsteadiness inside boundary layer is entrained when a unsteady vortex impinge on the blade surface. It shoves that local peak value inside the boundary layer and also local minimum near the edge of boundary layer as it developes along the blade surface. The unsteadiness inside the boundary layer is almost isolated from the free stream unsteadiness and being convected at local boundary layer speed, less than the free stream value.

  • The bow wave breaking and the viscous interaction of stern wave are studied by simulating the free-surface flows. The Navier-Stokes equation is solved by a finite difference method in which the body-fitted coordinate system, the wall function and the triple-grid system are invoked. After validation, the calculations are extended to turbulent flows. The wave elevation at the Reynolds number of $10^4$ is much less than that at $10^6$ although the Froude number is the same. The numerical appearance of the sub-breaking waves is qualitatively supported by experimental observation. They are also applied to study the stern flow of S-103 for which extensive experimental data are available. Although the interaction between separation and the stern wave generation are not yet clear, the effects of the bow wave on the development of the boundary layer flows are concluded to be significant.

  • A numerical investigation on a suction vortices, free vortices and subsurface vortices behavior in the model sump system with multi-intakes is performed A test model sump and piping system were designed based on Froude similitude for the prototype of the recommended structure layout by HI-9.B Standard for Pump Intake Design of the Hydraulic Institute. A numerical analysis of three dimensional multiphase flows through the model sump is performed by using the finite volume method of the CFX code with multi-block structured grid systems. A ${\kappa}-{\omega]$ ShearStressTransportturbulencemodelandthe Rayleigh-Plesset cavitation model are used for solving turbulence cavitating flow. From the numerical analysis, several types of vortices are reproduced and their formation, growing shedding and detailed vortex structures are investigated. To reduce abnormal vortices, an anti-vortex device is considered and its effect is investigated and discussed.

  • In this report, We compared the actual test with the result of pow calculation and Resistance/Self-propulsion of the ship using STAR-CCM+ which is the commercial Reynolds Averaged Navier-Strokes(RANs) Solver. The calculation model was the KRISO Container Ship and 205K Bulk Carrier of Sungdong shipbuilding company. For this calculation, We used Realizable K-Epsilon model for flaw analysis, VOF method for the free surface creation, Moving Reference Frame method for reducing the POW calculation time, and Sliding Mesh method for Self-Propulsion analysis. Calculation of Resistance and Self-Propulsion includes the free-surface. And all calculations in this report were based on unstructured grids.

  • In the present study, a new hull panel generation algorithm, namely panel cutting method, was developed to predict flow phenomena around a ship using the Rankine source potential based panel method, where the iterative method was used to satisfy the nonlinear free surface condition and the trim and sinkage of the ship was taken into account. Numerical computations were performed to investigate the validity of the proposed hull panel generation algorithm for Series 60 ($C_B$=0.60) hull and KRISO container ship (KCS), a container ship designed by Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute (MOERI). The computational results were validated by comparing with the existing experimental data.
