  • Numerical solutions for the fractional differential dispersion equations with nonlinear forcing terms are considered. The backward Euler finite difference scheme is applied in order to obtain numerical solutions for the equation. Existence and stability of the approximate solutions are carried out by using the right shifted Grunwald formula for the fractional derivative term in the spatial direction. Error estimate of order $O({\Delta}x+{\Delta}t)$ is obtained in the discrete $L_2$ norm. The method is applied to a linear fractional dispersion equations in order to see the theoretical order of convergence. Numerical results for a nonlinear problem show that the numerical solution approach the solution of classical diffusion equation as fractional order approaches 2.

  • Many different families of infinite series were recently observed to be summable in closed forms by means of certain operators of fractional calculus(that is, calculus of integrals and derivatives of any arbitrary real or complex order). In this sequel to some of these recent investigations, the authors present yet another instance of applications of certain fractional calculus operators. Alternative derivations without using these fractional calculus operators are shown to lead naturally a family of analogous infinite sums involving hypergeometric functions.

  • Lienard's equations are important nonlinear differential equations with application in many areas of applied mathematics. In the present article, a new approach known as the modified fractional Taylor series method (MFTSM) is proposed to solve the nonlinear fractional Lienard equations with Caputo fractional derivatives, and the convergence of this method is established. Numerical examples are given to verify our theoretical results and to illustrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the method. The results obtained show the reliability and efficiency of the MFTSM, suggesting that it can be used to solve other types of nonlinear fractional differential equations that arise in modeling different physical problems.

  • Recently, the method based on fractional order partial differential equation has been used in image processing. Usually, the optional order of fractional differentiation is determined by a lot of experiments. In this paper, a denoising model is proposed based on adaptive fractional order anisotropic diffusion. In the proposed model, the complexity of the local image texture is reflected by the local variance, and the order of the fractional differentiation is determined adaptively. In the process of the adaptive fractional order model, the discrete Fourier transform is applied to compute the fractional order difference as well as the dynamic evolution process. Experimental results show that the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity index measurement (SSIM) of the proposed image denoising algorithm is better than that of other some algorithms. The proposed algorithm not only can keep the detailed image information and edge information, but also obtain a good visual effect.

  • This paper proposes a fractional-order PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) control used electromagnetic strip stabilization controller in a continuous galvanizing line. Compared to a conventional PID controller, a fractional-order PID controller has integration-fractional-order and derivation-fractional-order as additional control parameters. Thanks to increased control parameters, more precise controller adjustment is available. In addition, accurate transfer function of a real system generally has a fractional-order form. Therefore, it is more adequate to use a fractional-order PID controller than a conventional PID controller for a real world system. Finite element models of a $1200{\times}2000{\times}0.8mm$ strip, which were extracted using a commercial software ANSYS were used as simulation plants, and Gaussian mixture models were used to find optimized control parameters that can reduce the strip vibrations to the lowest amplitude. Simulation results show that a fractional-order PID controller significantly reduces strip vibration and transient response time than a conventional PID controller.

  • This paper presents an application of fractional order controller for the control of multi input multi output twin rotor aerodynamic system. Dynamics of the considered system are highly nonlinear and there exists a significant cross-coupling between the horizontal and vertical axes (pitch & yaw). In this paper, a fractional order model of twin rotor aerodynamic system is identified using input output data from nonlinear system. Based upon identified fractional order model, a fractional order PID controller is designed to control the angular position of level bar of twin rotor aerodynamic system. The parameters of controller are tuned using Nelder-Mead optimization and compared with particle swarm optimization techniques. Simulation results on the nonlinear model show a significant improvement in the performance of fractional order PID controller as compared to a classical PID controller.

  • Belarbi and Dahmani [3], recently, using the Riemann-Liouville fractional integral, presented some interesting integral inequalities for the Chebyshev functional in the case of two synchronous functions. Subsequently, Dahmani et al. [5] and Sulaiman [17], provided some fractional integral inequalities. Here, motivated essentially by Belarbi and Dahmani's work [3], we aim at establishing certain (presumably) new inequalities associated with pathway fractional integral operators by using synchronous functions which are involved in the Chebychev functional. Relevant connections of the results presented here with those involving Riemann-Liouville fractional integrals are also pointed out.

  • Let G be a graph, and let g, f be two nonnegative integer-valued functions defined on V (G) with g(x) ≤ f(x) for each x ∈ V (G). A graph G is called a fractional (g, f, n)-critical graph if after deleting any n vertices of G the remaining graph of G admits a fractional (g, f)-factor. In this paper, we obtain a binding number condition for a graph to be a fractional (g, f, n)-critical graph, which is an extension of Zhou and Shen's previous result (S. Zhou, Q. Shen, On fractional (f, n)-critical graphs, Inform. Process. Lett. 109(2009)811-815). Furthermore, it is shown that the lower bound on the binding number condition is sharp.

  • In this article we introduce a numerical method, named Gegenbauer wavelets method, which is derived from conventional Gegenbauer polynomials, for solving fractional initial and boundary value problems. The operational matrices are derived and utilized to reduce the linear fractional differential equation to a system of algebraic equations. We perform the convergence analysis for the Gegenbauer wavelets method. We also combine Gegenbauer wavelets operational matrix method with quasilinearization technique for solving fractional nonlinear differential equation. Quasilinearization technique is used to discretize the nonlinear fractional ordinary differential equation and then the Gegenbauer wavelet method is applied to discretized fractional ordinary differential equations. In each iteration of quasilinearization technique, solution is updated by the Gegenbauer wavelet method. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the methods.

  • This paper presents a 18-mW, 2.5-㎓ fractional-N frequency synthesizer with l-bit $4^{th}$-order interpolative delta-sigma ($\Delta{\;}$\sum$)modulator to suppress fractional spurious tones while reducing in-band phase noise. A fractional-N frequency synthesizer with a quadruple prescaler has been designed and implemented in a $0.5-\mu\textrm{m}$ 15-GHz $f_t$ BiCMOS. Synthesizing 2.1 GHzwith less than 200 Hz resolution, it exhibits an in-band phase noise of less than -85 dBc/Hz at 1 KHz offset frequency with a reference spur of -85 dBc and no fractional spurs. The synthesizer also shows phase noise of -139 dBc/Hz at an offset frequency of 1.2 MHz from a 2.1GHz center frequency.
