The development of digital media made the change of architectural paradigm from tectonic to the surface and pattern. This means the transition to the new kind of materiality and the resurrection of ornament. This study started as an aim to apply biological pattern to architectural design from the new perception of pattern. Architectural patterns in the early era appeared as ladders, steps, chains, trees, vortices. But since 21st century, we can find patterns in nature like atoms and molecular structures, fluid forms of dynamics and new geometrical pattern like fractal and first of all biological patterns like viruses and micro-organisms, Voronoi cells, DNA structure, rhizomes and various hybrids and permutations of these. Pattern became one of the most important elements and themes of contemporary architecture through the change of materiality and resurrection of ornament with the new perception of surface in architecture. One of the patterns that give new creative availability to the architectural design is biological pattern which is self-organized as an optimum form through interaction with environment. Biological patterns emerge mostly as self-replicating patterns through morphogenesis, certain geometrical patterns(in particular triangles, pentagons, hexagons and spirals). The architectural application methods of biological patterns are direct figural pattern of organism, circle pattern, polygon pattern, energy-material control pattern, differentiation pattern, parametric pattern, growth principle pattern, evolutionary ecologic pattern. These patterns can be utilized as practical architectural patterns through the use of computer programs as morphogenetic programs like L-system, MoSS program and genetic algorithm programs like Grasshoper, Generative Components with the help of computing technology like mapping and scripting.
Based on the trend of pluralization and globalization the collapse of national borders now is a manifestation of mixed and compromised cultures and societies. It is also emerging as a hybrid fashion in fashion. Hybrid fashion means creating a new image by mixing various cultures beyond the time and space. This study aims to analyze the current state of Chinese fashion design and present its direction by grasping the characteristics of hybrids in the works of rising Chinese fashion designers in the era of pluralization. The research method was literature review and empirical research. According to the selection criteria of new fashion designers, 6 new fashion designers of 5 fashion brands were selected and their total 458 points works were analyzed. The analysis results are as follows. First, most of the time trade-offs were 'past and present' trade-offs that express Chinese traditional culture and the image of the past with modern design. The trade-offs between 'present and future' is expressed by mixing print patterns, colors and light with fractal art. Second, spatial trade-offs was expressed in the way of expressing Chinese themes in the composition of western clothing, expressing the Western themes in oriental colors, and inspired by Japanese culture expressed by deconstructionism, Third, the gender mix mainly used dark embroidery on women's clothing, while the men's wear showed a delicate feminine charm with a surreal pattern on thin and transparent gauze fabric.

By a development of high-advanced science technology, the area of image made inter-area's communication more actively. Such the inter-image exchange facilitated a new combination of areas. By such the development and the activation of public design, the area of image has been extended into the area of environmental design as the public meaning. According to this flow, the media art of using a light has been introduced in the environment of water-front in Korea. Hence, it enhanced the region's identity and gave a special impression to tourists. However, the study on the area of image in the Korean environment aldesign is still in sufficient. Accordingly, the constant expression development absolutely required. For develop ingand researching a variety of expression techniques, the utilization of media art is expected to work as the alternative of image expression technique.
Adfreeze bond strength develops upon freezing of pore water within soil and at foundation surface. It has been reported that various factors like temperature, soil type, and pile surface roughness affect adfreeze bond strength. Especially, pile surface roughness has been considered as a primary factor to design pile foundation in frozen ground. It has usually been estimated with fixed correction factors for pile materials. However, even if the pile foundation material is the same, the surface roughness could vary depending on the production circumstances. In this study, laboratory test was carried out to quantitatively analyze the effects of surface roughness on the adfreeze bond strength, and fractal dimension was used as a measure for surface roughness. Test results showed that adfreeze bond strength increased with decreasing temperature, increasing vertical stress and surface roughness. The adfreeze bond strength varies sensitively with surface roughness in the early freezing section of $-2^{\circ}C$, but its sensitivity decreased in the temperature ranging between $-2^{\circ}C$ to $-5^{\circ}C$. The results conclude that the roughness highly affects the frictional resistance of pile surface in frozen ground; however, the roughness does not affect considerably when the temperature drops below about $-2^{\circ}C$.
When we think about visual art, we can't pass over the matter of images and spaces. An image is fixed in a painting space. If the image were posited in the river of time, it would be changed as time flowed on. Its image might be created, rigged, transfigured or it might vanish or remain as traces. The image is changed through the process of expressing them on the painting surfaces. In paintings the changing of the image is caused not only by working processes but also recognizing the objects. In modernist painting, the idea of space was important, but in postmodernist view, the idea of time becomes essential. In this thesis I will focus on the matter of time and image of painting in the late 20th century. Studying the relationship of image and time is not familiar because we had considered the space as being more related to painting distinction than time. Presently, the concept of space can't be divided from that of time. In Physics, they recently called it as a united concept- time-space. Painting space also becomes one asking and recieve the concept of time actively. Now in painting, time is no more a supporting matter but becomes a major matter. In the late 20th century, we can find many trials to catch the change of images as time flowes on and express them as a trace through using verioty media. One of the way to drawing the change of images as time passes could be seen through various joint images in one painting space and another in the traces of one image. The other could be done by using new media such as computer in the example of fractal art. It shows the images chainging of practically as time changes. New understanding about time of this era has to be affirmatively accepted because it reflects the contemporary cultural situation and in art, the concern about the possiblity of it and finding new medias which has to go on.
Secondary vegetation. the holistically integrated system of nature and human being, is the complicated ecosystem that is composed of natural and man-created factors. Understanding the ecological function of secondary vegetation supplies us many important informations for sustainable landscape management and ecological restoration planning. In this research, we tried to examine the shape effect of vegetation patch on early structure of populations of pine and oaks. Moreover. we also tried to clarify the ecological functions of patch edge by exploring the patch effect on germination using patch index. In addition, we present the landscape structure of man -made vegetation of our study area, and setting experimental design of research. Vegetation landscape of study area is typical human disturbed landscape mainly composed of disturbance patches. Vegetation types of graveyard and managed pine forest were controlled by periodically repeated management. However, current seedlings of pine occurred well at both vegetation types. Presence of both saplings were more controlled in managed pine forest (PDM) and graveyard (G) than those of undergrowth (PD) and forest edge (FE) with canopy trees. The number of pine seedlings increased with patch size and patch perimeter. That of oak seedlings was, however, not significantly different. Larger graveyards provided higher light availability for germination of pine seedlings. We think, however, most seedlings of both species in the large sized graveyards without shade will die more easily than that of small sized ones before rainy summer. Relationships between patch shape and germination of two woody species cannot be exactly explained enough yet in these results. More informations on spatial interaction of the total species with differently sized patches are necessary to solve the concept of patch effect on species colonization.
The politics penetrating through the contemporary art since modernism to postmodernism is to accomplish the 'Non-representation' in the artworks. This study argues that postmodernism did not put an end to the formalistic feature of modernism but intended to accomplish it. Modernist art aimed at purity, i.e. self-referential and self-definition art advocated by Clement Greenberg, and it carne to the end by accomplishing flatness and materiality. It was an 'evasion to the matter' which allocated the object from visuality of outer object to the psychic image of the subject. It failed being 'non-representational' as what it really achieved was transition of object. Jean Baudrillard's theory tried to overcome the representational quality by 'being simulacre'. In the representative artworks of the past, the meaning of artworks was reverted under the outer context or object. The meaning again failed being 'Non-representational' as it was restored to the psychic image of the subject in modernist artworks where the definite illusion was demolished Meanwhile, artwork advocating simulacre acquired Non-representational quality by liberating from both models. It did not deconstruct the self-referential tendency of modernism but maximized the Non-representational modernistic principle. After creating 'Non-representation' through simulacre, the existential status and function of an artwork is the inclination and moral of contemporary art as 'Non-representation'. The image theory of Henri Bergson sets the existential status of 'image' as it does not belong to either subject nor object. It provides significant foundation for arguing the existential status of simulacre. Moreover, though an artwork as a fragment forming a movement image in the world cannot represent the object, it can however sustain certain kind of fractal resemblance with the world by letting the two parties communicate. The theory of sense by Gilles Deleuze is of profound significance as it specifically indicated way how the stage of absorption through the unity of subject and object is realized in forms of artworks, and configured the latent and invisible energy.

In this paper, a frequency selective surface(FSS) with bandstop operation for radio-frequency spectrum management is presented. The proposed FSS is composed of patterns of fractal-based miniaturized unit cells for stable performance for angles of incidence and polarizations. For practical applications requiring high productivity and environmental compatibility, we fabricated a film-type FSS by screen-printing using Ag ink, rather than a conventional manufacturing method using a printed circuit board. To validate this study, we measured the transmission characteristics of the proposed FSS using the free-space measurement method, and observed the received strength of signal penetrating the FSS film applied to a wall.
During bolted flange assembly, the contact stiffness of some areas of the joint surface may be low due to the elastic interaction. In order to improve the contact stiffness at the lowest position of bolted flange, the correlation model between the initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange is established in this paper. According to the stress distribution model of a single bolt, an assumption of uniform local contact stiffness of bolted flange is made. Moreover, the joint surface is divided into the compressive stress region and the elastic interaction region. Based on the fractal contact theory, the relationship model of contact stiffness and contact force of the joint surface is proposed. Considering the elastic interaction coefficient method, the correlation model of the initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange is established. This model can be employed to reverse determine the tightening strategy of the bolt group according to working conditions. As a result, this provides a new idea for the digital design of tightening strategy of bolt group for contact stiffness of bolted flange. The tightening strategy of the bolted flange is optimized by using the correlation model of initial bolt pre-tightening force and the contact stiffness of bolted flange. After optimization, the average contact stiffness of the joint surface increased by 5%, and the minimum contact stiffness increased by 6%.
To obtain the dynamic mechanical properties, fracture modes, energy and brittleness characteristics of Furong Baijiao coal rock, the dynamic impact compression tests under 0, 4, 8 and 12 MPa confining pressure were carried out using the split Hopkinson pressure bar. The results show that failure mode of coal rock in uniaxial state is axial splitting failure, while it is mainly compression-shear failure with tensile failure in triaxial state. With strain rate and confining pressure increasing, compressive strength and peak strain increase, average fragmentation increases and fractal dimension decreases. Based on energy dissipation theory, the dissipated energy density of coal rock increases gradually with growing confining pressure, but it has little correlation with strain rate. Considering progressive destruction process of coal rock, damage variable was defined as the ratio of dissipated energy density to total absorbed energy density. The maximum damage rate was obtained by deriving damage variable to reflect its maximum failure severity, then a brittleness index BD was established based on the maximum damage rate. BD value declined gradually as confining pressure and strain rate increase, indicating the decrease of brittleness and destruction degree. When confining pressure rises to 12 MPa, brittleness index and average fragmentation gradually stabilize, which shows confining pressure growing cannot cause continuous damage. Finally, integrating dynamic deformation and destruction process of coal rock and according to its final failure characteristics under different confining pressures, BD value is used to classify the brittleness into four grades.
