  • The purpose of this study was to verify feasibility of using a ATP Luminometer, real-time hygiene monitoring tool for food contact surfaces in foodservices. For this, 54 cutting boards, 70 knives, 21 rubber gloves in 4 institutional foodservices were studied. ATP (RLU: relatively light unit) values by ATP Luminometer were compared with APC (CFU: colony forming unit) of swabbing culture method using aerobic count plates of 3M petrifilm. ATP ranged from 0 RLU/$cm^2$ to 64693 RLU/$cm^2$ on knives, from 0.1 RLU/$cm^2$ to 6743.6 RLU/$cm^2$ on cutting boards and from 31 RLU/$cm^2$ to 465635 RLU/$cm^2$ on the rubber gloves. APC ranged from 0 CFU/$cm^2$ to 166667 CFU/$cm^2$ on knives, from 0 CFU/$cm^2$ to 1000 CFU/$cm^2$ on cutting boards and from 0 CFU/$cm^2$ to 730000 CFU/$cm^2$ on the rubber gloves. To express the degree of association between ATP and APC, a linear regression was performed. There were significant positive correlations found between log RLU and log CFU on the knives (r=0.84, p<0.001), the cutting boards (r=0.79, p<0.001), the rubber gloves (r=0.78, p<0.001). Results of this study showed the possibility that ATP bioluminescence technique can be used as the monitoring tool for surface hygiene in foodservices.

  • This study analyzes the likelihood principle and elicits an educational implication. As a result of analysis, this study shows that Frequentist and Bayesian interpret the principle differently by assigning different role to that principle from each other. While frequentist regards the principle as 'the principle forming a basis for statistical inference using the likelihood ratio' through considering the likelihood as a direct tool for statistical inference, Bayesian looks upon the principle as 'the principle providing a basis for statistical inference using the posterior probability' by looking at the likelihood as a means for updating. Despite this distinction between two methods of statistical inference, two statistics schools get clues to compromise in a regard of using frequency prior probability. According to this result, this study suggests the statistics education that is a help to building of students' critical eye by their comparing inferences based on likelihood and posterior probability in the learning and teaching of updating process from frequency prior probability to posterior probability.

  • In recent, tract infections such as atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and a respiratory disease are increasing, giving rise to the atmospheric pollution, inflow of micro-size dust and side effect of humidifier disinfectant. In this context, the environment-friendly technology is required to eliminate airborne pathogens. We propose solution of the previous problems, making use of Radical Mist Generator (RMG). Existing technologies of air purification using a gas discharge produce harmful substances such as ozone, NOx, etc. However, the RMG uses a pure water as a plasma forming material. The RMG sprays the water mist, which contains reactive radicals to sterilize microorganisms. RMG is comprised of a power supply, plasma electrodes and a nozzle. In order to analyze the electrical characteristic and concentrations of reactive radicals, we employ an oscilloscope and a titration method. To test the sterilization effect of RMG, we used E.coli. We confirmed that E.coli was killed over 90%. Eventually, we expect that RMG can be promising tool for a purified system.

  • The porthole extrusion process is a classic metal forming process to produce complex cross-section shaped aluminum profile. It is very difficult to design porthole die and extrusion process because of the complex shape of extrusion die and internal metal flow. The main variables in this process are ram speed, initial billet and tool temperature, and die shape. In general, the metal flow of porthole extrusion process can be divided into two steps. During the first step, the billet is divided into several parts in the porthole die bridge. During the second step, the divided billets are welded in the welding chamber. In the welding chamber, the level of welding pressure is very important for the quality of the final product. The purpose of this study is to increase the welding pressure in the welding chamber by using a two stage welding chamber. The porthole extrusion die was designed by using the Taguchi method with orthogonal array. The effectiveness of the optimized porthole die was verified by using the finite element analysis.

  • In this research, the effects for surface Improvement of plasma ion implanted carbide endmill tools were observed by measuring cutting forces and tools wear affecting surface roughness in high speed cutting. From the 2nd ion mass analysis, the oxidation layer was found to be built up by sputtering. The residual gas contamination of oxygen was found to be contained impurities in nitrogen gas. The plasma implanted ion was found to be spreaded, especially the nitrogen was implanted up to 150nm depth as impressed voltage and ion implanting time. It is analyzed as bring surface improvement by spreading deeply forming oxidation on surface. The factors in Analysis of Variance(ANOVA) about mutuality cause reference of cutting force. The cutting force Fx is affected by the interaction of spindle rpm and federate, the cutting force Fy is influenced by spindle rpm and time injected ion, and cutting force Fz is affected by the interaction of impressed voltage and feedrate. Also, it was found that the cutting forces of implanted tools become lower and the surface roughness is improved by the effect of nitrogen according to the implantation.

  • Injection molding is the most widely used process fir the industrial forming of plastic articles. During an injection molding process of composites, the fiber-matrix separation and fiber orientation are caused by the flow of molten polymer/fiber mixture. As a result. the product tends to be nonhomogeneous and anisotropic. Hence, it is very important to clarify the relations between separation orientation and injection molding conditions. So far, there is no research on the measurement of fiber orientation using image processing. In this study, the effects of fiber content ratio and molding condition on the fiber orientation-angle distributions are studied experientially. Using the image processing method, the fiber orientation distribution of welding pars in injection-molded products is assessed. And the effects of fiber content and injection mold shapes on the fiber orientation in case of fiber reinforced polymeric composites are studied experimentally.

  • In recent years, automotive seat components have been manufactured by the fine blanking process, allowing an improvement of dimensional accuracy at sheared surface in series production. However, the rollover has increased and die failures have occurred more frequently when manufacturing gears by fine blanking. Consequently, important goals for manufacturing seat recliner parts with gears have been to decrease the rollover as well as to improve the tool life. In this study, the half blanking and shaving processes were introduced to improve aforementioned problems for the lower tooth, the main component of a seat recliner. For this purpose, the half blanking process was optimized using the finite element (FE) analysis and design of experiment (DOE). The optimized conditions resulting from this study were an offset of 0.2 mm, a clearance of 0.1 mm and a penetration depth of 4.5 mm. Fine blanking experiment conducted under the optimal condition resulted in a rollover depth decrease from 1.9 to 1.3 mm, and no die failure occurrence.

  • Conflicting evidence has been obtained regarding whether transient receptor potential cation channels (TRPC) are store-operated channels (SOCs) or receptor-operated channels (ROCs). Moreover, the Ca/Na permeability ratio differs depending on whether the current-voltage (I-V) curve has a doubly rectifying shape or inward rectifying shape. To investigate the calcium permeability of TRPC4 channels, we attached GCaMP6s to TRPC4 and simultaneously measured the current and calcium signals. A TRPC4 specific activator, (-)-englerin A, induced both current and calcium fluorescence with the similar time course. Muscarinic receptor stimulator, carbachol, also induced both current and calcium fluorescence with the similar time course. By forming heteromers with TRPC4, TRPC1 significantly reduced the inward current with outward rectifying I-V curve, which also caused the decrease of calcium fluorescence intensity. These results suggest that GCaMP6s attached to TRPC4 can detect slight calcium changes near TRPC4 channels. Consequently, TRPC4-GCaMP6s can be a useful tool for testing the calcium permeability of TRPC4 channels.
