Gaemok, the place name of Uihang-ri, Sowon-myeon, Taean-gun, Chungnam, indicates a tombolo. This study estimated the Holocene sea level change and development process of the coastal landforms of the Gaemok and Hwanyeong Tombolos in the Uihang coast. The tombolos seemed to form at approximately 3.4 ka and the average sea level at that time was estimated to be higher than that of the present by ca. 1 m. The Gaemok area was a separated island from the Taean peninsula during the Holocene Climatic Optimum. At approximately 3.4 ka when the sea level rose again after the fall, the Gaemok area was tied to the land by formation of the Gaemok and Hwanyeong Tombolos. The falling or fluctuating sea levels after 3.4 ka have shaped the present coastal landforms.
This study was performed to investigate effects of hesperidin and naringin on linpid peroxide formation and antioxidative enzyme activities in rats. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) concentrations were measured in plasma and liver. Catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase activities were measured in erythrocyte and liver. Forty-nine male Sprague-Dauley rats weighing 275.3$\pm$3.3g were blocked into seven groups according to body weight and were raised fro four weeks on diets containing 0.25, 0.50 or 1.00%(w/w) hesperidin or naringin . Food intake, weight gain , food efficiency ratio, and weights of liver, kidney, spleen ,and epididymal fat pad were not significantly different among groups. In 0.50 and 1.00% naringin groups , plasma TBARS concentrations were significantly decreased with a dose response patter. In 0.25, 0.50 and 1.00% hesperidin groups, liver TBARS concentrations were significantly decreased without a dose dependent patter. Antiosidative enzyme activities in erythrocyte and liver were not significantly affected by type and amountof dietary bioflavonoid, but in the 1.00% hesperidin group, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutahione perosidase activities in linver showed a tendency to increase. In conclusion, naringin inhibited lipid peroxide formation with a dose response pattern in plasma without changing the activities of antioxidative enzymes. Hesperidin adminstration, regardless of the level in the diet, inhibited lipid peroxide formation in liver.
Incubation of aflatoxin $B_1$$(AFB_1)$ with microsomes isolated from human liver number 110 yielded two metabolite peaks which were aflatoxin $Q_1$$(AFQ_1)$ and $(AFB_1)$-exo-8, 9-epoxide (exo-epoxide) in high performance liquid chromatography. Production ratio of $AFQ_1$ to exo-epoxide was 2.43$\pm $0.04. Metabolism of $(AFB_1)$ to $(AFQ_1)$ and exo-epoxide was inhibited by troleandomycin in a same degree although troleandomycin was not activated as a mechanism-based inhibitor. The inhibitory effect was dependent upon either the incubation time with $(AFB_1)$ or the preincubation time before the addition of $(AFB_1)$. Incubation of troleandomycin and NADPH by the microsomes resulted in the formation of a cytochrome P 450 (P450)-metabollc intermediate (MI) complex and the level was approximately 80% of total P450 3A4 in the microsomes. This figure was similar to that of the inhibitory effect of troleandomycin on $AFB_1$ metabolism. Glutathione which was reported that it prevented the formation of MI complex in rat liver microsomes did not inhibit the formation of MI complex in human liver microsomes. These results suggested that the inhibitory effect of troleandomycin on $AFB_1$ metabolism is due to the formation of MI complex with P450 3A4. And the reaction mechanism of troleandomycin by human liver microsomes might be dlfferent from that one by rat liver microsomes.
Relative navigation system is presented using GPS measurements from a single-channel global positioning system (GPS) simulator. The objective of this study is to provide the real-time inter-satellite relative positions as well as absolute positions for two formation flying satellites in low earth orbit. To improve the navigation performance, the absolute states are estimated using ion-free GRAPHIC (group and phase ionospheric correction) pseudo-ranges and the relative states are determined using double differential carrier-phase data and singled-differential C/A code data based on the extended Kalman filter and the unscented Kalman filter. Furthermore, pseudo-relative dynamic model and modified relative measurement model are developed. This modified EKF method prevents non-linearity of the measurement model from degrading precision by applying linearization about absolute navigation solutions not about the priori estimates. The LAMBDA method also has been used to improve the relative navigation performance by fixing ambiguities to integers for precise relative navigation. The software-based simulation has been performed and the steady state accuracies of 1 m and 6 mm ($1{\sigma}$ of 3-dimensional difference errors) are achieved for the absolute and relative navigation using EKF for a short baseline leader/follower formation. In addition, the navigation performances are compared for the EKF and the UKF for 10 hours simulation, and relative position errors are mm-level for the two filters showing the similar trends.
The perceptual characteristic on the slope scenery around highway is very similar as the general perceptual characteristic in the landscape. This process determines by the relationship between the scenery observers and the characteristics of its place. It is very important to have a analysis on highway slope scenery in our particular culture in Korea since our country's highways are done by cutting mountains : therefore, we have a lot of slopes around highways. The physical characteristics on the highway scenery determines how we should build scenery around highway to a satisfactory level. The results drawn from this research work are as follow: 1) The satisfaction for slope scene had been affected by sex, native and experience of travel. I thought that the slope scene having peculiar form will offer the highest satisfaction. 2) Psychological factor, reflected satisfaction of slope scene, 몽 a grip of three factors as the factor of evaluation, texture, formation, and presumption formula is : Satisfaction=1.04(Evauluation factor)+0.83(Texture factor)+0.15(Formation factor)+4.28)R2=0.69). 3) Vine among the vegetation componeents of slope scene highly correlated with the evaluation factor and grass, shrub correlated with the texture factor. 4) Rock among the structual components of slope scene highly correlated with the formation factor, and stockade, lattice correlated with the evalution factor. 5) Gradient among the properties which determined slope form, highly correlated with the formation factor.
We report on the formation mechanism of large Schottky barrier height (SBH) of nonalloyed Cr Schottky contacts on strained Al0.25Ga0.75N/GaN. Based on the current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) data, the SBHs are determined to be 1.98 (${\pm}0.02$) and 2.07 (${\pm}0.02$) eV from the thermionic field emission and two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) calculations, respectively. Possible formation mechanism of large SBH will be described in terms of the formation of Cr-O chemical bonding at the interface between Cr and AlGaN/GaN, low binding-energy shift to surface Fermi level, and the reduction of 2DEG electrons.
Presented are the formation of iron oxide layers on evaporator tubes in an actual fossil power plant operated under all volatile treatment (AVT) condition and an experimental simulation of iron oxide formation in the presence of ferrous and ferric ions. After actual operations for 12781 and 36326 hr in the power plant, two iron oxide layers of magnetite on the evaporator tubes were found: a continuous inner layer and a porous outer layer. The experimental simulation (i.e., artificial corrosion in the presence of ferrous and ferric ions at 100 ppm level for 100 hr) reveals that ferrous ions turn the continuous inner oxide layer on tube metal to cracks and pores, while ferric ions facilitate the production of porous outer oxide layer consisting of large crystallites. Based on a comparison of the oxide layers produced in the experimental simulation with those observed on the actually used tubes, we propose possible routes for oxid layer formation schematically. In addition, the limits of the proposed corrosion routes are discussed in detail.
Optical property improvements for ONP (old newspaper) and OMG (old magazine) were attempted by application of in-situ $CaCO_3$ formation process on recycled fiber surfaces. Washing treatment of ONP and OMG resulted in 35~40% yield loss for around 6% brightness improvement. Washing plus bleaching process with $H_2O_2$ and FAS (formamidine sulfinic acid) improved brightness and ERIC values a little more with the same amount of yield loss as washing treatment. In-situ $CaCO_3$ formation method improved those optical properties much better than the washing plus bleaching method without loss of yield, and better than the case of adding high brightness PCC up to the same ash level. It can be said that the in-situ $CaCO_3$ formation method may be used as an effective alternative for upgrading optical properties of recycled fibers.
The charge transfer complex formations between indole derivatives and methylviologen were investigated spectroscopically. In aqueous solutions near room temperature, the order of complex stability was tryptamine < tryptophan < indole < indole acetate, which is the reverse order of the magnitude of molar absorptivities. This was interpreted as involvement of contact charge transfer. The decrease of enthalpy of complex formation (-${\Delta}$H) was highest in tryptamine, and lowest in indole acetate. ${\Delta}$H and entropy of complex formation (${Delta}$S) varied nearly in a linear fashion with isokinetic temperature $242^{\circ}$K. These results were attributed to the hydration-dehydration properties of the side chains in indole derivatives. Except indole acetate, the complex formations were greatly enhanced by the addition of sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS). However, the direct relationship between the enhanced complex formation and SDS micelle formation was not found. The enhanced charge transfer interaction inSDS solutions was attributed to the increased ${\Delta}$S by interaction between methylviologen and SDS in premicellar level. The order of complex stability in SDS solutions was indole acetate < tryptophan < trypamine < indole, which reflects the hydrophobicity of indole derivatives as well as electrostatic interaction between indole derivatives and methylviologen associated with SDS.
