  • Petri nets is a widely used formalism for specification and analysis of concurrent systems which is a subclass of discrete event systems. The DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) formalism provides a general framework for specification of discrete event systems in a hierarchical, modular form. Often, modeling a discrete event system may employ both Petri Nets and DEVS formalism. In such a case low-level operational logics are modeled by Petri Nets and high-level managements by the DEVS formalism. Analysis of the system requires simulation of the overall system. This paper presents an algorithm for transformation of Petri Nets to DEVS formalism. The transformation enables modelers to simulate an overall system, which consists of DEVS models and Petri Nets models, in a unified DEVS simulation environment such as DEVSim++. An example for such transformation will be given.

  • The first purpose of this study is to take a better look it the background of Formalism art in the cultural society and to examine the aesthetic value of the formative arts of formalism architecture that are ail basically founded upon the study of Formalism. Secondly, it analyzes the aesthetic value of Formalism Art to Wear, Which can be explained as a mixture of art and fashion, by investigate to the features of art history. The results are as follows; First, Formalism Art to Wear of Simultaneity does not represent continuance but simultaneous. In other words. inside the same time and place of dimension, events art visualized without transformation. Secondly, formalism Art to Wear of Geometrical Aesthetics deals with a purely genuine atmosphere that pursues absolute perfection, composed abstract of geometrical shapes. Thirdly, Fomarlism Art to Wear of Deformation breaks analysis from balance and symmetry showing extreme transformation nil new vitality. Fourthly, Formalism Art to Wear of Space Extension experiments with post-corporeality. Post-corporeality centers the human body extension that is open to various boundaries of implosion and electronic technologies, providing us with a new Cyborg of the digital body.

  • The system of systems (SoS) based analysis method for the C3 system consisting of the communication system and the command and control (C2) system has the advantage that detailed analysis is possible, but it requires long execution time per one trial, which makes the analysis of various scenarios difficult. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a method for analysis of C3 SoS using a transformation of a federation into an integrated simulation. This transformation technique reduces the execution time while maintaining accuracy by abstracting the system other than the one to be analyzed, consisting of model hypothesis and function identification. The former can construct an abstracted model for the simulation through the proposed extended Discrete Event Systems Specification (DEVS) formalism and the latter can express the characteristics of the model influenced by other systems. From the case study on C and C2 analysis, the experimental results show that this method shortened the time considerably while maintaining the accuracy within an acceptable error range and we expect that this method will enable the exploratory analysis of the complex systems other than C3.

  • In general, simulation and analytic method are used for real system analysis. However, or date, there has been only the theoretical works on each approach. Therefore it is required that we study on the relationship between each approaches to obtain more reliable and correct system analysis results. In this paper, using SPN(Stochasitc Petri Net) formalism, we propose the method of output prediction of the DEVS(Discrete Event system Specification) simulation. For this we suggest a transformation algorithm which transform SPN form DEVS formalism based on the event scheduling world view and a verification algorithm for it. We then show an example to apply it to the real system, such that the Grocery Store System.

  • Combined models, specified by two or more modeling formalisms, can represent a wide variety of complex systems. This paper describes a methodology for the development of combined models in two model types of discrete events and continuous process. The methodology is based on transformation of continuous state space into discrete one to homomorphically represent dynamics of continuous processes in discrete events. As an example, a combined model of human heart is developed which Incorporates conventional differential equation formalism with Zeigler's DEVS(Discrete Event Specification System) [4]formalism.

  • A novel idea of protocol security analysis is presented based on trusted freshness. The idea has been implemented not only by hand but also by a belief muitisets formalism for automation. The key of the security analysis based on trusted freshness is a freshness principle: for each participant of a cryptographic protocol, the security of the protocol depends only on the sent or received one-way transformation of a message, which includes a trusted freshness. The manual security analysis method and the belief multisets formalism are all established on the basis of the freshness principle. Security analysis based on trusted freshness can efficiently distinguish whether a message is fresh or not, and the analysis results suggest the correctness of a protocol convincingly or the way to construct attacks intuitively from the absence of security properties. Furthermore, the security analysis based on trusted freshness is independent of the idealization of a protocol, the concrete formalization of attackers' possible behaviors, and the formalization of concurrent runs of protocols.

  • Combined models, specified by two or more modeling formalisms, can represent a wide variety of complex systems. This paper describes a methodology for the development of combined models in two model types of discrete event and continuous process. The methodology is based on transformation of continuous state space into discrete one to homomorphically represent dynamics of continuous processes in discrete events. This paper proposes a formal structure which can combine model of the DES and the CS within a framework. The structure employs the DEVS formalism for the DES models and differential or polynomial equations for the CS models. To employ the proposed structure to specify a DEVS/CS combined model, a modeler needs to take the following steps. First, a modeler should identify events in the CS and transform the states of the CS into the DES. Second, a modular employs the formalism to specify the system as the DES. Finally, a moduler developes sub-models for the CS and continguos states of the DES and establishs one-to-one correspondence between the sub-models and such states. The proposed formal structre has been applied to develop a DEVS/CS combined model for the human cardiovascular system. For this, the cardiac cycle is partitioned into a set of phases based on events identified through observation. For each phase, a CS model has been developed and associated with the phase. To validate the DEVS/CS combined model developed, then simulate the model in the DEVSIM + + environment, which is a model simulation results with the results obtained from the CS model simulation using SPICE. The comparison shows that the DEVS/CS combined model adequately represents dynamics of the human heart system at each phase of cardiac cycle.

  • Though considering of philosophy of mathematics can be optional to theoretical mathematicians, that of philosophy of mathematics-education is supposed to be indispensible to mathematics-educators. So it is natural for mathematics-educators to ask what kind of philosophy might be more desirable for mathematics-education. In this context, this essay reviews two kinds of major philosophy of mathematics, Platonism and formalism. However it shows that humanism could be more plausible alternative philosophy of mathematicseducation. In the course of entailing such a result it introduces an episode of lecture for Laplace-transformation as a speculative evidence from experience.

  • After 1960s, a radical change was taken place in the modern urban theories which were developped by many architects and planners like Ebenezer Howard, Tony Garnier, Le Corbusier, Ludwig Hiberseimer, and Patrick Abercrombie. Many contemporary architects like Kevin Lynch, Aldo Rossi, Christopher Alexander, Colin Rowe, Rem Koolhaas, and Bernard Tschumi have a view that modern urban theories lost their abilities to organize and control new realities so that new urban theories was needed in order to cope with urban problems in the 1960s. In this study, we are to examine contemporary urban theories in comparison with modern urban theories and to clarify the role of discourse of language in its emergence. In consequence we can detect four main themes in the process of transformation from modern urban theories to contemporary urban theories : from functionalism to formalism, from historicism to archeology, from space to placeness, and from hierarchical organization to network. And we can prove that such themes basically depend on the discourse of language.

  • In this research, an object-oriented Petri net model for representing a flexible process plan is proposed, which is hierarchically multi-faceted for supporting planning, scheduling, and shop floor control functions. The multi-faceted process plan model consists of the following: a) an object model which represents on object-oriented data model, b) a static model which represents a process flow model with process alternatives, and c) a dynamic model which represents a process activity model with resources alternatives, of a flexible process plan. Petri nets allow the static and the dynamic process plan models to be represented in a unified formalism with an ease of model transformation. The multi-faceted process plan model suggested in this paper, is illustrated with a prismatic port in comprehensive detail.
