A finite element yield line model for the analysis of reinforced concrete plates

  • This paper concerns the development and implementation of an orthotropic, stress resultant elasto-plastic finite element model for the collapse load analysis of reinforced concrete plates. The model implements yield line plasticity theory for reinforced concrete. The behaviour of the yield functions are studied, and modifications introduced to ensure a robust finite element model of cases involving bending and twisting stress resultants ($M_x$, $M_y$, $M_{xy}$). Onset of plasticity is always governed by the general yield-line-model (YLM), but in some cases a switch to the stress resultant form of the von Mises function is used to ensure the proper evolution of plastic strains. Case studies are presented, involving isotropic and orthotropic plates, to assess the behaviour of the yield line approach. The YLM function is shown to perform extremely well, in predicting both the collapse loads and failure mechanisms.

An endochronic model of material function and its application to plastic behavior of metals under asymmetric cyclic loadings

  • By using the incremental form of the endochronic theory of plasticity, a model of material function is proposed in this paper to investigate plastic behavior. By comparing the stress-strain hysteresis loop, the theory is shown to agree well with the experimental results, especially in the evolution of peak stress values of SAE 4340 steel loaded by cyclic loading with various amplitudes. Depending on the choice of material parameters, the present model can substantially result in six categories of material function, each of which can behave differently with respect to an identical deformation history. In addition, the present model of material function is shown to be capable of describing the behavior of erasure of memory of materials, as experimentally observed by Lamba and Sidebottom (1978).

  • Wafer-level packaging technology has become established with increase of demands for miniaturizing and realizing lightweight electronic devices evolution. This packaging technology enables the smallest footprint of packaged chip. Various structures and processes has been proposed and manufactured currently, and products taking advantages of wafer-level package come onto the market. The package enables mounting semiconductor chip on print circuit board as is a case with conventional die-level CSP's with BGA solder bumps. Bumping technology is also advancing in both lead-free solder alternative and wafer-level processing such as stencil printing using solder paste. It is known lead-free solder bump formation by stencil printing process tend to form voids in the re-flowed bump. From the result of FEM analysis, it has been found that the strain in solder joints with voids are not always larger than those of without voids. In this paper, characteristics of wafer-level package and effect of void in solder bump on its reliability will be discussed.

  • 동해에 서식하는 이매패류인 털담치(Modiolus difficilis)에 공생하는 요각류 1신종 Modiolicola avdeevi를 기재하였다. 이 종은 외견상diolicola bifidus와 매우 유사하나 두 종의 대촉각, 꼬리돌기, 다섯째 다리의 형태를 비교하면 이들은 명백히 다른 종이다.

  • Close binary stars are so close that one component has an effect on the evolution of the other. But how do they form and evolve? This is an unsolved problem. One speculation is that the binary is a part of a hierarchical triple and its orbit shrinks due to interaction with the third component. Therefore, searching for and investigating tertiary components, especially close-in ones, in close binary stars are important for understanding their origin, as well as to test theories of star formation and stellar dynamical interaction.

  • In this paper the effect of chaos induced instability in Brillouin-active fiber-ring sensor is described. The inherent optical feedback by the backscattered Stokes wave in optical fiber leads to instabilities in the form of optical chaos. The paradigm of optical chaos in fiber serves as a test for fundamental study of chaos and its suppression and exploitation in practical application in communication and sensing. At weak power, the nature of the Brillouin instability can occur at before threshold. At strong power, the temporal evolution above threshold is periodic and at higher intensity can become chaotic. The threshold for the Brillouin instability in fiber-ring sensor is much lower than the threshold of the normal Brillouin instability process.

중금속이온이 시멘트의 수화 및 미세구조에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of the Heavy Metal Ions on the Hydration and Microstructure of the Cement Paste)

  • The effect on the hydration of cement was that Cu and Pb reacted with alkali to form soluble hydrates at theinitial stage and then there followed a slow reaction forming insoluble metal hydroxides. These hydroxides were deposited on the surface of cement particles providing a barrier against further hydration. But as a slow reaction continued, the insoluble layers were eventually destroyed and the hydration reaction resumed. Thereafter, another retardation occured by restricting the polymerization of silicates, shown by FT-IR spectroscopy analysis. In the case of Cr, as its reaction with cement caused H2O, the coordinator of Cr complex, to replace or polymerize with OH-, the formation of Cr complex promoted the leakage of OH- and increased the heat of dissolution. So the total heat evolution during hydration was larger than that in the case of Pb or Cu. The retarding effect of heavy metal ions was in the order Pb>Cu>Cr.

Microstructural Evolution during High-Temperature Deformation of Coarse-Grained BaTiO3

  • Compressive creep of dense polycrystalline $BaTiO_3$, with average grain sizes of 19.3-52.4$\mu\textrm{m}$, has been investigated at 1100-$1300^{\circ}C$ in air or under controlled atmospheres $(10^2-10^5Pa \;O_2)$. Some cavity growth occurred during deformation because of non-steady-state damage accumulation in the form of cavitation. Comparison of the creep data of polycrystalline BaTiO3 with existing diffusivity and creep data for perovskite oxides suggested that deformation of polycrystalline $BaTiO_3$ was controlled by the extrinsic lattice diffusion of barium or titanium.

  • Zirconia gel fibers were fabricated by sol-gel processing using zirconium alkoxides and 2, 4-pentanedione. Their phase transformation and microstructural evolution were studied after heat treatments up to 150$0^{\circ}C$. Tetragonal ZrO2 began to form at 50$0^{\circ}C$ and followed by monoclinic, tetragonal phase during subsequent heat treatments at 1000, 150$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hour respectively. During cooling from 150$0^{\circ}C$, cracks were created, propagated along grain boundaries due to the volume change from tetragonal to monoclinic transformation.

  • In this present the transient control of SBS chaos induced instability in Brillouin-active fiber systems is described. The inherent optical feedback by the backscattered Stokes wave in optical fiber systems leads to instabilities in the form of optical chaos. At weak power, the nature of the Brillouin instability can occur at before threshold. At strong power, the temporal evolution above threshold is periodic and at higher intensity can become chaotic. Multistable periodic states, makes transition to logic 'on' or 'off'. It can make theoretically potential large memory capacity.
