  • There is a strong demand fur the contactless transportation device fur a hard disk and silicon wafer without contaminating and damaging them. To fulfill this requirements, A transportation device fur them has been proposed. But the device needs many of costly displacement sensors positioned along the transportation interval and possesses a very complicated controller and driving scheme. To overcome those kinds of drawback, in this paper, we present a very simple and cost-effective transportation device which only consists of a linear guide, very simple electrostatic suspension system and driving circuit of stepping motor. The principle of stable suspension by relay feedback control, derivation of lateral restoring force, the design of transportation system are described, fellowed by the experimental system. Experimental results show that a 3.5-inch hard disk has been transported with a speed of approximately 20mm/s while being suspended stably at a gap of 0.25mm.

  • Constant slip frequency operation of linear infliction motor is essential for the stable levitation. Control scheme for the constant slip frequency with general purpose frequency inverter is proposed, Speed sensing scheme with proximitity switch for the speed feedback is also proposed. Optimal slip frequency, at which normal force is equal to 0, is selected by the experiment. This slip frequency is a comand to the controller. It shows good characteristic during acceleration and deceleration.

  • This paper is concerned with an optimal control suspension system using the preview information of road input based on a quarter car model. The main purpose of the control is to combine good vibration isolation characteristics with improved attitude control. The optimal control law is derived with the use of calculus of variation, consisting of three parts. The first part is a full state feedback term that includes integral control acting on the suspension deflection to ensure zero steady-state deflection in response to static body forces and ramp road inputs. The second part is a feed-forward term which compensates for the body forces when they can be detected, and the third part depends on previewed road input. The performance of the suspension is evaluated in terms of frequency domain characteristics and time responses to ramp road input and cornering forces. The effects of each part of the suspension controller on the system behavior are examined.

  • In this paper, we investigate the issues on the design and implementation of tele-operation system based on the haptic interface. Here, the 3-DOF haptic device and the X-Y-Z stage are employed as master controller and slave system respectively. For this master-slave system, the force feedback algorithm, the modeling of virtual environments and the control method of X-Y-Z stage are presented. In this paper, internet network is used for data communication between master and slave.

  • In general, for high performance pressure control system, hydraulic system with electo hydraulic servo valve controls flow rate, it contains many nonlinear term like square-root and change of bulk modulus by flow rate. But, DDV(Direct Drive Valve) contains pressure control loop itself, then it can eliminate nonlinearity and achieve linearity for hydraulic system. In this paper, parameter identification method which uses input and ouput data is applied to obtain DDV's mathematical model and parameter assuming that dynamic characteristic of DDV is first order system. Then, the state feedback controller was designed to implement the force control of hydraulic system , and the control performance was evaluated.

  • In this paper, we present a new control methodology for perturbed crane systems. Nonlinear crane systems are transformed to linear models by feedback linearization. An inverse dynamic equation is applied to compute the system PD control force. The PD control parameters are selected based on a nominal model and are therefore suboptimal for a perturbed system. To achieve the desired performance despite model perturbations, we construct a neural network auxiliary controller to compensate for modeling errors and disturbances. The overall control input is the sum of the nominal PD control and the neural auxiliary control. The neural network is iteratively trained with a perturbed system until acceptable performance is attained. We apply the proposed control scheme to 2- and 3-degree-of-freedom (D.O.F.) crane systems, with known bounds on the payload mass. The effectiveness of the control approach is numerically demonstrated through computer simulation experiments.

  • This paper presented here contains development of variable stability system(VSS) control laws for the KIFS (Korean In-Flight Simulator) aircraft to simulate the dynamics of F-16 aircraft. Development of VSS Control law for pitch rate, roll rate, yaw rate simulation for three specified flight conditions using Model Following Technique with rate feedback autopilot for stability provision. The direct lift force controller was also added to the developed VSS control law to simulate the pitch rate and normal g-load simultaneously. The simulation results show high accuracy of F-16 aircraft's pitch, roll, yaw rate and g-load simulation.

  • This paper is concerned with the active vibration control of rectangular plate equipped with MFC actuators. To this end, the dynamic model of the rectangular plate bonded with MFC sensors and actuators was derived by means of the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The MFC actuator and sensor were modeled based on the pin-force assumption. The theoretical model was then validated experimentally. The multiinput and multi-output (MIMO) Positive Position Feedback (PPF) controller was designed based on the natural mode shapes and implemented using dSpace system and Simulink. The proposed control algorithm was applied to the cantilever plate having two MFC wafers having both sensor and actuator. Numerical and experimental investigations were carried out. Both theoretical and experimental result shows that the proposed control algorithm can effectively suppress vibrations of cantilever plate.

  • In this paper, a modified skyhook control for the semi-active Macpherson suspension system is investigated. A new model for the semi-active type suspension, which incorporates the rotational motion of the unsprung mass, is introduced and an output feedback control law using the skyhook control method is derived. The gains in the skyhook controller are adaptively adjusted by estimating the road conditions. Because two vertical acceleration sensors, one for the sprung mass and another for the unsprung mass, are used rather than using the angle sensor for the rotational motion of the control arm, the relative velocity of the rattle space is filtered using the acceleration signals. For testing the control performance, the actual damping force has been incorporated via the hardware-in-the-loop simulations. The performances of a passive damper and a semi-active damper are compared. Simulation results are provided.

  • In this paper, the control technique of the stepping motor using back electromotive force(B-EMF) without encoder is investigated. The stepping motor generally uses the rotary encoder to detect the rotor position. Since this method increases the cost and the motor configuration size, the new closed-loop control method applied for the B-EMF was implemented by using current detect circuit, AD-converter, and micro controller unit(MCU). The control loop of stepping motor became very simplified. The current change of stepping motor measured by the amplifier was measured and analyzed, when the missing step is occurred. Based on the data from current feedback, position errors were compensated and confirmed by using AD-converter.
