In this paper, an embedded foot pressure measurement system is proposed to measure foot pressure based on the embedded Linux system. To measure foot pressure data and to evaluate foot pressure distribution for the different insoles, FSR sensor, A/D converter, iPAQ PDA, and a time division measurement method are employed in the system. Utilizing this system, the foot pressure analysis has been performed for the different four shoes. The number of foot pressure/voltage conversion circuits are drastically decreased by the proposed time division measurement method from 406 to 14. The experimental results for the sandal, slipper, oxford shoes and sneakers demonstrate that the proposed system successfully performs the foot pressure measurement.
For the purpose of investigating the factor of foot and calf growth of primary-school children who are fast-growing during this period a group of the 1st graders of primary-school had been the subject of this measurement in 1995 and there after they became the subject again in 1997, 1999 when they were the 3th, 5th graders measurement was carried out in 30 items including status and weight and marthin-type measure and foot-print were used for this measurement as the result, stature is correlated with height items and length items of foot and calf weight is correlated with width and circumference items of foot and calf angle of the first toe showed the highest growth like 3rd graders, heel circumference had rapidly grown rather than in the part of foot circumference in the factor analysis df foot measurement of 10-year, the first, second factors, appeared the size of shoes, in case of 12-year the first factor with status appeared the size of shoes.
This research to reveal the foot types of old males consisted of two parts. First, a questionnaire was given for 180 old men in their 60s and above who live in Busan. Second, based on this survey on the reality of shoes wearing, direct and indirect measurement were held for 200 old gentlemen. The findings are as follows: 1. Survey Results of Shoes Wearing Reality In the investigation into the reality of shoes possession and wearing, most of old males favored active casual shoes with comfortable materials (40.8%). Hardened skin (23.6%) was the greatest in foot deformation and side effects resulting from shoes wearing, while the big toe (20.1%) was most uncomfortable. The greatest requirement for comfortable shoes was shoes making feet comfortable with a good sense of wear (41.0%), followed by shoes with the soft sole to absorb shock (31.7%), shoes with diverse sizes according to shoes width (13.7%), and shoes made of soft materials in consideration of various foot shapes. 2. Results of Foot Measurement Experiments Busan's males in their 60s and above were 166.31cm (Height), 63.51kg (weight), 23.94cm (foot length), 9.75cm (foot width), and 24.26cm (instep girth). The big toe angle of old males was $11.22^{\circ}$ and the little toe angle $14.70^{\circ}$. Four foot types were classified: 1 (long big foot), 2 (small inside-developed foot), 3 (toe-tip-gathered foot), and 4 (thin flat foot).
The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of men's foot and the foot type by cluster analysis for men's footwear. The sample size for the study was 200 college men between age 19 and 24 in Pusan urban area. There were measured 17 items of the foot for factor analysis and cluster analysis. The result was as follows: 1. The size of If items of men's foot is larger than women's foot. 2. There were 9 items selected by factor analysis. 3. The cluster analysis of the direct measurement: Cluster 1: The items of the direct measurement is all much the same to mean value of this age group. Cluster 2: The foot size is relatively small to other clusters. Cluster 3: The foot size is relatively large to other clusters. 4. The cluster analysis of indirect measurement: Cluster 1: The foot print angle is the most value and Metatarso-Phalanx angle is nomral Cluster 2: The foot print angle is middle and Metatarso-Phalanx angle is normal. Cluster 3: The foot print angle is high and Metatarso-Phalanx angle is the smallest. Cluster 4: The foot print angle is low and Metatarso-Phalanx angle is all the much same to mean value of this age group.
In this paper, a cost-effective integrated 3D system for measuring and sizing foot is proposed. The proposed system employs two CCDs and a laser line projector which are capable of accurately measuring foot. The measurement is based upon the biologically motivated stereo vision principle providing ruggedness against minor system distortions. According to the tolerance, calibration between two different views are implicitly applied. Furthermore, the measurement system employs a measurement base, a frame grabber, a CCD moving cart, a stepping motor and computer. Analysis and design procedure is presented for the calculation of the 3D foot data and the proposed system. Experimental results on the proposed system would verify the concept and system operation.
This study aims to categorize age groups for shoes manufacturing including shoes size and boot tree development for Koreans. In order to carry out the research, the characteristics of different parts of foot in relation to size are analyzed according to age and sex, making use of human body measurement database. As a result of statistical analysis, it was found that the measurement items such as foot length, metatarsal tibiale, foot breadth and instep circumference of a person reached the range of standard deviation and average numerical figures of an adult group (18-24) from the age of 14 in men's case, and from 12 for women's case, which indicates the time of completion of their foot growth. Based on these findings where males of 14 years old and females of 12 are within similar measurement range to adults, it is necessary to categorize the age groups for shoe sizing system into the following four groups: males 13 years old or under, males 14 years old or over, females 11 years or under, and females 12 years or over. The proportional measurement produced by dividing each measurement item of foot parts by foot length was compared in an independent samples t-test, and there were meaningful differences according to different foot shapes of the two age groups of males 13 or under - males 14 or over, and females 11 or under - females 12 or over. Also, the independent samples t-test for the age groups of males 13 or under - females 11 or under, and males 14 or over - female 12 or over, showed similar meaningful differences, which indicates the differences in foot shapes of male and female during the period of growth.
The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationship between anthropometric data of foot and other body sizes. to categorize the foot shape of elementary school boys and to find out determinant factors related the foot that enable us to deduce the foot shape and size for the design of more comfortable shoes. Subjects of this study were 249 elementary school boys of age ranged from 6 to 11 residing Seoul and lncheon area. Anthropometric sizes were measured with the direct measurement method using Martin scales and the indirect measurement method using digital photos. Pearson's correlation, factor analysis. cluster analysis. analysis of variance, post-hoc test, and cross tabs were performed for statistical analysis of the data by SPSS program. From the investigation on the relationship between foot-related items and body items, most items of foot measure were significantly related to body size items. However, angle of the foot did not related to other body sizes although other height items and mass items of the foot did have relationships with other body sizes. Results of ANOVA indicated there were significant differences in foot-related items except for items of foot angle and all body anthropometric items by subjects' age. This implicates big toe angle, little toe angle and foot ratio factors are required in sizing shoes besides foot length. On the basis of cluster analysis using factor scores. three different foot shapes were categorized. Type 1 was large and wide foot, Type 2 was small and narrow foot with large toe angle. and Type 3 was medium foot with no deformity on big toe. These three groups show significant differences in almost all measurement items. However, Rorher index and foot angle didn't show any significant differences among groups. This implicates the foot shape can be a determinant of shoe size.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the foot type by cluster analysis for footwear. The sample size for the study was 200 college womens between age 19 and 23 in Pusan urban area. There were measured 17 items of the foot for factor analysis and cluster analysis. The result was as follows : 1. 1'here were 9 items selected by factor analysis. 2.'rho cluster analysis of the foot must be analyzed by direct and indirect measurement indivisually. 3. The cluster analysis of the direct measurement ; Cluster 1 : 1'he foot length is all much the same to mean value of this age group and the items of width and circumference are relatively small to other clusters. Cluster 2 ; The foot length is relatively small to other clusters and the items of width and circumference are all much the same to mean value of this age group. Cluster 3 ; The foot sine Is relatively large to other clusters. 4. The cluster analysis of indirect measurement ; Cluster 1 ; The (cot print angle is high find Metatarso-Phalanx angle is transformed Cluster 2 ; The foot print angle is low and Melatarso-Phalanx angle is normal. Cluster 3 : Tho foot print angle Is middle and Metatarso-Phalanx angle is all the mush same to mean value of this age group. Cluster 4 . The foot print angle Is the most value and Metatarso-Phalanx angle is normal.
A foot has an intimate relation with human's health, thus became an important theme of researches for various academic fields. The aim of this paper is to investigate the trends and tendencies of research on foot measurement in various academic fields and to suggest the directions for the future studies on foot measurement. The collection of data has been accomplished from the papers published in the KSI(Korean Studied Information Service System) journals on foot measurement. The number of papers in 21 journals by 2006 is 79, and the first paper appeared in the Korean Journal of Home Economics in 1986. The number of publication has been increasing every year in various fields of academic including clothing, engineering, medical science and athletics, and measuring methods became diverse and specialized according to the purpose. However, there were some problems such as subjects being biased and similar studies overlapping without interchange between academic fields. Therefore, a research with variety in subject from an infant to the aged and a interdisciplinary research are needed.
For the purpose of investigating the factor of foot and calf growth of primary-school children who are fastgrowing during this period, a group of the 1st graders of primary-school had been the subject of this measurement in 1995 and thereafter they became the subject again in 1997 when they were the 3rd graders. Measurement was carried out in 30 items including height and weight and marthin-type measurer and Footprint were used for this measurement. As the result, in the part of calf, the measuring items of maximum calf circumference and knee circumference, and in the part of foot, the items of instep circumference, heel circumference, instep circumference, measured angle of big toe showed the highest growth. The average growth of length for 2 years appeared about 2cm and the parts of instep circumference, heel circumference had rapidly grown rather than in the part of foot circumference. Height growth of the part of toe was about 0.1 and in the factor analysis of foot measurement of 8-year and 10-year and children, the following findings appeared in both cases that height was related with the items of calf height and foot length and weight was related with calf circumference and breadth, foot circumference items.
