Web Service for Traffic Information Using Focus+Context Visualization Technique (Focus + Context 시각화 기법을 사용한 교통정보 웹 서비스)

  • Information and Communication Technology environment has been developing rapidly and variety of services are in service. As data becomes increasingly sophisticated. These data was applied techniques of visualization in order to visualize efficiently. Various agencies are providing the map based data in real-time. However, traffic information is getting more complex and users are having a difficulty to understand with convential visualization techniques. This study was designed and implemented in the web service of traffic information using Focus+Context. Web service implemented HTML5(Hyper Text Markup Language 5), and it runs on browser of either desktop or mobile devices. This study sets an example as web application from a user perspective by combining information visualization and traffic information.

  • As commercial game engines become available to the public, attempts have been made to use it for general purpose research. This study uses the game engine to develop a medical simulation. Specifically, when the user selects an important portion of the human body, the focus+context visualization is applied to the volume data. We proposes the accumulation based method to make the background part more transparent and naturally fuse it with the focus part. Since the proposed method combines well with the existing volume visualization, the virtual surgery function such as incision is performed smoothly. The game engine is useful for general-purpose research, because auxiliary functions such as collision handling and UI can be efficiently created with the help of it.

  • Information visualization in information retrieval is a creating tool that enables us to observe, manipulate, search, navigate, explore, filter, discover, understand, interact with large volumes of data for more rapidly and far more effectively to discover hidden patterns. The focus of this study is to investigate and analyze information visualization techniques in information retrieval system in the three-schematic levels. In result, it was found that first, scientific data, documents, and retrieval result information are visualized through various techniques. Second, information visualization techniques which facilitate navigation and interaction are zoom and pan, focus+context techniques, incremental exploration, and clustering. Third, the visual metaphors used by the visualization systems are presented in the linear structure, hierarchy structure, network structure, and vector scatter structure.

  • This paper implements a visualization tool and a zoom browser for visualizing the search results on the WWW. The visualization tool allows the user to find interested information through a display window as scattering the icons. The zoom browser uses a Focus+context technique to visualize large documents with many pages. It offers an overview of a document, and gives users instant access to any part of interest.   • In computer forensics investigation, the investigators collect, protect, analyze and interpret massive amount of data which were used in cyber crime. However, due to its huge amount of information, it takes a great deal of time and errors often result even when they use forensics investigation tool in the process. The information visualization techniques will greatly help to improve the information processing ability of human when they deal with the overwhelming amount of data and have to find out significant information in it. The importance of Intrusion Detection System(IDS) among network forensics is being emphasized in computer forensics. In this study, we apply the information visualization techniques which are proposed to be a great help to IDS and carry out the usability test to find out the most effective information visualization techniques for IDS.

  • As a lot of information and media are given to users in Internet space nowadays, users feel disoriented or "lost in space" intensively. So it is suggested that we have the system to reduce information overload and to propose effective and efficient information. In this study we present a visualizing technique which uses fisheye views on data adjacency to combine global context and local details for presentation of many results in limited space. Data Adjacency on graph theory is applied to set up degree of interest which is main focus in fisheye views. Graph theory is useful to solve the problem resulted from various combinational optimization, especially it has advantages to analyze issues in information space like Internet. To test the usability of the proposed visualization technique, we compared the effectiveness of different visualization techniques. Results show that our method is evaluated with respect to less time and high satisfaction for a task accomplishment.

  • This paper proposes XML based mobile information visualization system using rectangle layout to show effectively XML based information to user on mobile devices which do not have a rich display feature. We define XML schema that can describes information in graph with cycle as well as information in tree form. It suggests using rectangle layout method that is an improvement of the traditional method of the radial layout because the specificity of the mobile display should be considered when XML information is rendered on the screen. And then, it applies DOI of fisheye view algorithm to information on the rectangle layout to represent all and user interest information. And it also suggests an effective method considering capability of mobile devices to decrease user's confusion and improve awareness of user when a user Interest target selected. The proposed information visualization system in the form of focus+context supports an effective interface for information retrieval via mobile devices, such as PDA, cellular phone and smart phone, that usually have less power of CPU than that of PC and the constraints of display and memory. In this paper, it performs experiments and makes an evaluation comparing information visualization method between the traditional radial layout and the proposed rectangle layout.

  • This research does focus on supporting all of formal, or informal learning at real time. From industry or education field, learning training is according to worker's current situation or business context. And according to worker's current situation, or business flow, 3D immersion knowledge visualization is effective in the individual ability and the learning progress For this, workers listen to compound knowledge coaching advices at real time. Therefore we developed the realistic 3D based knowledge retrieval method to identify and retrieve multidimensional relation easily.

  • The characteristics of metabolic pathways make them particularly amenable to layered graph drawing methods. This paper presents a visual Java-based tool for drawing and annotating biological pathways in two- and a-half dimensions (2.5D) as an alternative to three-dimensional (3D) visualizations. Such visualization allows user to display different groups of clustered nodes, in different parallel planes, and to see a detailed view of a group of objects in focus and its place in the context of the whole system. This tool is an extended version of J2dPathway.

  • This paper is a theoretical inquiry of the changing roles of digital technologies in the representation of risk. Critically examining existing perspectives on risk society and risk communication, this paper argues that digital technologies and images in risk communication have been relatively understudied. Having said that, this paper suggests that Actor-network Theory provide useful theoretical tools for current studies on how digital technologies affect contemporary risk communication practices. Furthermore, this paper examines varied recent studies investigating how digital technologies of visualization are at play in risk communication practices. In doing so, this paper demonstrates how digital images and technologies interrupt the processes that scientific evidence is presented and facts are constructed in varied contemporary scientific reasoning. It will focus on the emerging mode of seeing and visual regime made possible by the increased usage of digital image and technologies, which are characterized by networked connection, sensor, computerized algorithm, and increased storage space. Finally this paper will discuss on the implications on future studies on the roles of digital images and technologies in risk communication practices in Korean context.
