  • This paper investigates experimentally the fire resistance performance and spatting resistance of high performance reinforced concrete column member subjected to fire containing polypropylene fiber(PP fiber) and cellulose fiber(CL fiber). An increase in PP fiber and CL fiber contents, respectively resulted in a reduction of fluidity due to fiber ball effect. Air content is constant with m increase in fiber content. Compressive strength reached beyond 50 MPa. Based on fire resistance test, severe failure occurred with control concrete specimen, which caused exposure of reinforcing bar. No spall occurred with specimen containing PP fiber. This is due to the discharge of internal vapour pressure. Use of CL fiber superior to control concrete in the side of spatting resistance, localized failure at comer of specimen was observed. Corner of specimen had deeper neutralization than surface of specimen. Specimen containing PP fiber had the least damaged area due to spatting. Neutralization depth ranged between 6 and 8 mm Residual compressive strength of specimen containing PP fiber maintained 40%, which is larger than control concrete with 20% of residual strength. Specimen containing CL fiber had 25% or residual strength.

  • self-loading, various problems related to construction can be solved as well as the save of construction cost. Thus, this study has an aim of applying foam concrete to structural purpose by adding bottom ash as a reinforcing material like fine aggregate, in contrast to conventional non-structural usage such as soundproofing or insulating materials. In addition, it was evaluated in terms of unit volume weight, flow value, air void, water absorption and dosage of foam agent wether replacement of cement by granulated blast furnace slag or fly-ash has an effect on the material characteristics of foam concrete. As results of experiments, it can be found that the increase of fine aggregate ratio, that is to say, the increase of bottom ash results in the increase of unit volume weight, while decreasing air void and flow value. But, appropriate addition of bottom ash to foam concrete makes it easy to control a homogeneous and uniform quality in foam concrete due to less sensitive to bubbles. As the replacement ratio of mineral admixtures such as granulated blast furnace slag and fly-ash increases, as unit volume weight tends to decrease. In the meanwhile, serious effects were shown on fluidity of foam concrete when more than limit of replacement ratio was applied.

  • To use ferro copper slag as aggregate in the construction, an evaluation upon the two kinds of ferro copper slag being produced was conducted to determine the basic physical, and mechanical properties, chemical component and environmental noxiousness. As a result of experiment, it was found that two kinds of ferro copper slag satisfies the physical and mechanical properties of aggregate, prescribed in KS F 2526, and that in the result of noxious heavy metal eruption test by single bach extraction, no eruption of noxious heavy metal was detected or the eruption was far below the reference value. And mortar test was conducted by replacing sand of 25, 50, 75, 100% and the performance level was presented upon reviewing the fluidity property and variable aspects of unit weight. The increase of strength in accordance with replacement rate of sand was found to be the below than the equivalent level compared to the testing specimens that did not use ferro copper slag, but those of 25% replacement rate was above than 0%. Thus, two kinds of ferro copper slag, produced in the domestic, were found to be possessing the enough physical properties to use as concrete aggregate assuming that used with sand and in particular, it was reviewed to be advantageous in manufacturing concrete or mortar that requires weight.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of a solidifying agent for recycling the fine powder separated from the nuclear power plant decommissioned concrete as a solidifying agent(SA) for radioactive waste. In order to evaluate the performance of the solidifying agent, a powder simulating the fine powder of waste concrete separated from the dismantled concrete of a nuclear power plant was produced, and the main variables were the type of binder and the replacement ratio of zeolite. The solidifying agent was evaluated for fluidity performance, compressive strength, and leaching resistance to non-radioactive cesium. The compressive strength of SA increased as the zeolite replacement ratio increased, and the SA containing 5% or more of zeolite showed a compressive strength that was 1.4 to 1.7 times higher than the acceptance criteria. The cesium leaching index of all specimens was 6 or higher, satisfying the acceptance criteria, and the leaching index of SA was 1.47~1.63 times higher than that of OPC. In particular, the average leaching index after 28 days of the 5% zeolite-substituted solidifying agent was 9.15, which was improved by about 6.4% compared to OPC, and it was confirmed that the zeolite was effective in improving the leaching resistance to cesium ions by showing stable performance over the entire period.

  • Recently, the cement industries brought very severe environment problems such as resource depletion and global warming with massive carbon dioxide during its production. The number of cases using industrial by-products such as the ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) in concrete mixtures is increasing to resolve the environmental issue. GGBFS is mainly used in the range between 20 to 50% to replace cement, but nowadays lots of researches are carried out to develop the alkali-activated slag (AAS) concrete with no cement. In this study, the early age properties of alkali activated slag (AAS) mortar are investigated to obtain the fundamental data for AAS concrete application to structural members. The experimental variables were the water-binder ratios of 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 and NaOH as the alkali activator of 4%, 8%, and 12% by the mass of GGBFS, and compressive strength, flow, setting time, and ultrasonic pulse velocity of AAS mortars were measured and analyzed. It is found from the test results that as the normal concrete the lower W/B, the higher compressive strength. However, superplasticizer has to be used for producing high strength AAS concrete because the workability of AAS mortar are significantly lowered.

  • In order to use the spherical atomizing reduction steel slag (ladle furnace slag, LFS) instead of the fine aggregate of polymer concrete composites, various specimens were prepared with various replacement ratios of atomizing reduction steel slag and the addition ratios of polymer binder. Physical properties of these specimens were investigated through the absorption test, the compressive strength test, the flexural strength test, the hot water resistance test, the pore analysis and the micro-structure using scanning electron microscope. Results showed that the compressive strength and flexural strength of specimens with 7.5% of polymer binders increased with the increase of replacement ratios of atomizing reduction steel slag, but those of the specimens with 8.0% or more of polymer binders showed a maximum strength at a certain replacement ratio due to the material segregation causing the increase of fluidity. By hot water resistance tests, the compressive strength, flexural strength, average pore diameter, and bulk density decreased but the total pore volume and pore diameter increased. It was concluded that the amount of polymer binders could be reduced by maximum 23.8%, because the workability of the polymer concrete was remarkably improved by using the atomizing reduction steel slag instead of fine aggregate. However, since the use of atomizing reduction steel slag decreased the resistance of the polymer concrete to hot water, further studies are required.

  • This study examined the fluidity and strength properties, water resistance, durability, and freeze-thaw of cementless loess mortar using an eco-friendly hardening agent. The experimental result indicates that 28 days compressive and flexural strength of the loess mortar was increased regardless of the weathered granite soil and loess mixture ratio as the replacement ratio of the hardening agent increases. The strengths were significantly increased until 14 days regardless of the hardening agent, while the effect on the strengths increasement was relatively low after 14 days. Thus, the strength development of loess mortar concrete was found to be faster than that of the normal concrete. In addition, when the hardening agent of 10% was used, the average flexural strength was 1.7MPa which is insufficient compared to the 28-day flexural strength of 4.5MPa for the paving concrete. However, the flexural strengths of the loess mortar concrete using the hardening agents of 20% and 30% were 4.0MPa and 5.3MPa, respectively. Thus, the hardening agent need to be at least 20% so that the loess mortar can be used for paving concrete. The experiment for water resistance shows that the repeated absorption and dry reduced mass regardless of the mixing ratio of the loess. The maximum length change also decreased with increasing the substitution rate loess mixture ratio and the hardening agent. The result of the freeze-thaw resistance test indicates that the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity at 300 cycle freeze-thaw with the hardening agents of 20% and 30% were 75% and 79%, relatively. Thus, the hardening agent of at least 20% is required to obtain the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity of 60% for the loess mortar.

  • In this study, increasing the range of replacement rate of FA with concrete properties were analyzed to provide basic data of FA replacement 0-40 % and curing temperature $5-35^{\circ}C$ range. As a result of the increased fluidity in proportion to the increase in FA, but decreased air. Setting time delayed at replacement rate increases and low temperature, simple insulation temperature history of the FA up to 40 % replacement rate increases the maximum temperature was low $8^{\circ}C$, the highest temperature reaching time delay of 13 hours. FA replacement up stream of the curing temperature, compressive strength compared to the higher plane, it was found that improved strength development. In carbonation tests with increasing the replacement ratio of FA carbonation depth was increased. Therefore, continued research on carbonation measures was to be necessary.

  • Glass is often recycled. In order to recycle, glass is crushed and ground. During this process, glass powder is generated. Most of this scrap glass powder is disposed in landfills. The glass powder, consisting of 73% SiO$_2$ and 16% Al$_2$O$_3$, is richer in components necessary for polymerization than fly ash. In this study, the fluidity and compressive strength of cement zero mortar were investigated, where cement zero mortar was prepared by mixing 5$\sim$15% of glass powder with 100% fly ash mortar. Result of flow test concluded that workability was not affected by adding the powder. After aging for 28 days, the compressive strength increased by approximately 6% with 5% addition of scrap glass powder. With 10% addition, the strength remained the same. In case of 15% addition, the compressive strength decreased by approximately 6%. To summarize the results, 5$\sim$10% addition of scrap glass powder is considered to be most appropriate.

  • With several different dosages of multi-walled CNTs which was 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5% of the weight of binder, the fluidity in fresh CNT cement composites, as well as the strength and strength development with age of the hardened composites were investigated in this experimental study. The experimental results from flow test indicated that the increase in the dosage of CNTs badly impacted on the workability of fresh composites, and the results from rheological measurements presented the decrease in plastic viscosity and the increase in yield stress according to the amount of CNTs. In addition, the thixotrophy in the flow curve obtained from the rheology test was observed more noticeably in the composites with higher dosage of CNTs. With the experiments on the strength properties, the improvement of both compressive and tensile strengths with the increase of CNTs dosage could be obtained. Moreover, early strength development by adding CNTs was found when it was compared with plain cementious matrix without CNT.
