Two phenomena often encountered in liquid flow, which were completely absent in gas or vapor flow, were cavitation and flashing. These phenomena were of significant interest in any comprehensive discussion of control valves or contracted devices since their occurrence would affect the device sizing procedures, might introduce noise and vibration, and also may limit the life expectancy of device components and the immediate downstream piping. Thus, this study aimed to find the reduction method of occurred cavitation in system by the computer simulation. A derivative six model with different dimensions of cavity were adopted. From the results, it was found that the length of the cavity was mote important factor to reduce the pressure drop over the control valves or contracted devices than the depth of the cavity. And the pressures along the centerline of the contracted devices were dropped two times in the case of haying the large length (Lc=1.5D) of cavity.

Vertical axis wind turbine, despite of its limit in power efficiency, the simplicity in structure and maintenance is a competitive factor that keeps this type of turbine in the game until nowadays. Continuous solutions have been given to handle its major weakness and the use of omni-directional guide vane is an considerable one. In this paper, a 5kkW scale Savonius-based wind turbine enhanced with such guide vane system was design and studied. Together with reasonable blade design, the wind turbine shows promising performance compared with basic design while maintaining its original advantages.

In the geothermal power, the geothermal fluid such as water or steam is moved from the ground to turbine a pipeline. Because the geothermal fluid with high temperature contains Cl-and SO4-, It cause to diminish the system lifetime due to the increase in the corrosion of pipeline. In the present work, the characteristics of corrosion and its fatigue of the sus316 which is used in the pipeline are evaluated experimentally. From this study, the following results can be obtained; for the case of the corrosion environment, it is found that the corrosion rate is faster than that of the steam environment by 10 to 30 times, and the corrosion fatigue limit is underestimated compared to that of steam state.

The hand held voltammetry systems searched diabetic assay using glucose sensor of fluorine nafion doped carbon nanotube electrode (FCNE). An inexpensive graphite carbon pencil was used as an Ag/AgCl reference and Pt counter electrode. Upon combining and using three electrode systems, optimum square wave (SW) stripping results were attained to 1.0-9.0 ug/L with 8 points. Statistic RSD precision was of 6.02 % with n=15 in 0.1 mg/L glucose. After a total of 200 second accumulation times, analytical detection limit of 0.8 ug/L was obtained. This developed technique was applied to urine samples from diabetic patients urine for fluid analysis, it was determined that the sensor can be used with a diagnostics in the ex vivo of live cells and non treated biological fluid.

In this study, the dynamic response of a functionally graded material (FGM) circular plate in contact with incompressible fluid under the harmonic load is investigated. Analysis of the plate is based on First-order Shear Deformation Plate Theory (FSDT). The governing equation of the oscillatory behavior of the fluid is obtained by solving Laplace equation and satisfying its boundary conditions. A new set of admissible functions, which satisfy both geometrical and natural boundary conditions, are developed for the free vibration analysis of moderately thick circular plate. The Chebyshev-Ritz Method is employed together with this set of admissible functions to determine the vibrational behaviors. The modal superposition approach is used to determine the dynamic response of the plate exposed to harmonic loading. Numerical results of the force vibrations and the effects of the different geometrical parameters on the dynamic response of the plate are investigated. Finally, the results of this research in the limit case are compared and validated with the results of other researches and finite element model (FEM).

A cycle analysis was achieved to predict the characteristics by comprehensive modeling and simulation of an air-cooled, double-effect absorption system using a new $H_2O/LiBr+HO(CH_2)_3OH$ solution. The simulation results showed that the new working fluid may provide the crystallization limit 8% higher than the conventional $H_2O/LiBr$ solution. With a crystallization margin of 3wt%(weight%), the optimal solution distribution ratio was found in the range of 36 to 40%. Variation of cooling air Inlet temperature has a sensitive effect on the cooling COP and corrosion problem. The simulation of heat exchangers with UA value revealed that the absorber and the evaporator are relatively important for an air-cooled system compared with the condenser and the low temperature generator. The effect of cooling air flow rate, circulation weak solution flow rate and chilled water inlet temperature were also examined. The new working fluid may provide the COP approximately 5% higher than the conventional $H_2O/LiBr$ solution.
This study investigates experimentally the optimum mix proportion and design factors of the stabilizing liquid used for excavation of the massive and deep slurry wall in LNG in-ground tank before pouring concrete. Considering those site conditions, the stabilizing liquid used for excavation of slurry wall has to be satisfied with some requirements including specific gravity, fluid loss, cake thickness, funnel viscosity and sand content in order to construct the safe and qualified slurry wall. For this purpose, we select materials including bentonite, polymer and dispersion agent. After performing many tests for materials and mix design process, we propose the optimum mix proportion that the upper limit ratio of bentonite is $2.0\%$, polymer is $0.1\%$ considering the funnel viscosity and dispersion agent is $0.05\%$considering the fluid loss of the stabilizing liquid. Also, we select all materials which are consisted of GTC4 as bentonite, KSTP as polymer and Bentocryl 86 as dispersion agent. Based on the results of this study, the optimum mix proportion of the stabilizing liquid is applicable to excavate the deep and massive slurry wall in LNG in-ground tank successfully.
The In-Containment Refueling Water Storage Tank (IRWST), one of the design improvements applied to the APR -1400, has a function to condense the high enthalpy fluid discharged from the Reactor Coolant System (RCS). The condensation of discharged fluid by the tank water drives the tank temperature high and causes oscillatory condensation. Also if the tank cooling water temperature approaches the saturated state, the steam bubble may escape from the water uncondensed. These oscillatory condensation and bubble escape would burden the undue load to the tank structure, pressurize the tank, and degrade its intended function. For these reasons simple analytical modeling and experimental works were performed in order to predict exact tank temperature distribution and to find the effective cooling method to keep the tank temperature below the bubble escape limit (93.3$^{\circ}C$), which was experimentally proven by other researchers. Both the analytical model and experimental results show that the temperature distributions are horizontally stratified. Particularly, the hot liquid produced by the condensation around the sparger holes goes up straight like a thermal plume. Also, the momentum of the discharged fluid is not so strong to interrupt this horizontal thermal stratification significantly. Therefore the layout and shape of sparger is not so important as long as the location of the sparger hole is sufficiently close to the bottom of the tank. Finally, for the effective tank cooling it is recommended that the locations of the discharge and intake lines of the cooling system be cautiously selected considering the temperature distribution, the water level change, and the cooling effectiveness.

The purpose of this study was to validate alternative method by using non-carcinogenic, and less toxic solvents than NIOSH analytical method 5524 for measuring the airborne MWFs in workplaces. In laboratory tests, the ETM solvents(mixture of same volume for ethyl ether, toluene, and ethanol) were selected. The alternative method of analyzing MWFs, referred to as the ETM solvent extraction method, showed 0.04 mg/sample as LOD, and 0.15 mg/sample as LOQ. The analytical precision (pooled CV, coefficient of variation) of the ETM solvent extraction method for analyzing the straight, soluble, semisynthetic, and synthetic metalworking fluid was 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.6%, 1.6%, respectively, which was similar to the precision (2.6%) of NIOSH analytical method (NIOSH 0500) for total dust. The analytical accuracy by recovery test, spiked mass calculated as extractable mass, was almost 100%. As the result of storage stability test, metalworking fluid samples should be stored in refrigerated condition, and be analyzed in two weeks after sampling. The 95% confidence limit of the estimated total standard error for the ETM solvent extraction method for analyzing the straight, soluble, semisynthetic, and synthetic metalworking fluid was ${\pm}12.6%$, ${\pm}12.5%$, ${\pm}14.0%$, and ${\pm}13.6%$, respectively, which satisfied the OSHA sampling and analytical criteria.
We consider the probability that the total population of a stable Jackson network reaches a given large value. By using the fluid limit of the reversed network, we derive new upper and lower bounds on this probability, which are sharper than those in Glasserman and Kou (1995). In particular, the improved lower bound is useful for analyzing the performance of an importance sampling estimator for the overflow probability in Jackson tandem networks. Bounds on the expected time to overflow are also obtained.
