  • Temperature and injection current dependence of elctroluminescence(EL) spectral intensity of the $In_{0.27}Ga_{0.73}N/GaN$ multi-quantum-well(MQW) have been studied over a wide temperature and as a function of injection current level. EL peaks also show significant broadening into higher photon energy region with the increase of injection current. This is explained by the band-filling effect. When temperature is slightly increased to 300 from 15 K, the EL emission peak showed red-blue-red shift. It can be explained by the carrier localization by potential fluctuation of multiple quantum well and band-gap shrinkage as temperature increase. It is found that a temperature-dependent variation pattern of the EL efficiency under very low and high injection currents show a drastic difference. This unique EL efficiency variation pattern with temperature and current is explained field effects due to the driving forward bias in presence of internal(piezo and spontaneous polarization) fields.

  • This study examines how the health of the banks in ASEAN-3 countries namely Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand respond to the change in exchange rates and foreign interest rates in four large economies. The transmissions of the two external factors through domestic factors in each ASEAN-3 countries eventually affects Non-Performing Loan (NPL) of commercial banks. This study uses the monthly time series data and the renowned Structural Vector Autoregressive (VAR) model comprising five variables, namely exchange rate, foreign interest rate, domestic interest rate, money supply, and non-performing loan (NPL). The results indicate that there are different effects between ASEAN-3 countries, which can be classified as short-run effect and long-run effect. In the long run effect, external factors have a dominant role in determining NPL in ASEAN-3 countries. Yuan has the biggest effect on Malaysia's NPL, while Indonesia is more affected by European interest rates rather than the fluctuation of the US currency and China's interest rates. Among ASEAN-3 countries, Malaysia is the one that is the most vulnerable to external factors. While Thailand's NPL is affected dominantly by domestic factors. This study shows that the Fed Funds Rate (US official interest rate) is not always the dominant factor affecting the health of domestic banks in ASEAN-3.

  • In this study, the rheological properties of a partially valcanized black filled EPDM were investigated as a function of degree of crosslinks using capillary rheometer. In order to obtain the samples having various degree of crosslinks between 0 and 6 percent, the vulcanization kinetics was also studied by Monsanto rheometer. The results showed that the die swell ana the pressure drop at the capillary entrance and exit increase nearly linearly with the increase in degree of crosslinks. However, melt fracture occurred at a lower shear rate for the samples of higher degree of crosslinks. These results were discussed in terms of the melt elasticity produced at the entrance region of capillary by the partial vulcanization. It is also interesting to note that the fluctuation of die swell during the practical extrusion or calendering process in the factories can be caused by the partial vulcanization occurred during the process.

  • Mo-tip field emitter arrays(FEAs) were fabricated by conventional Spindt process and their life time characteristics and failure mode were evaluated. The fabricated Mo-tip FEA could generate at least $0.35\{mu} A/tip$ emission current for about 320 persistently under a constant gate bias of 140 V and was finally destroyed through self-healing mode. Thin diamond-like carbon films were coated on the M-tip by plasma-enhanced CVD and the dependence of emission properties upon the DLC thickness was investigated. By DLC coating, the turn-on voltage and emission current were appeared to be improved whereas the current fluctuation was increased in the DLC thickness range of $0~1,000\{AA}$.

  • We investigated the effects of ginseng glycosides and their aglycones on processes of single ion channel formation and channel properties. The glycosides, Rg, and Rb, , and their aglycones, 20-(S)-protopanaxatriol (PT) and 20-(S)-protopanaxadiol (PD) increased the membrane permeability for ions. PT, PD, Rg1, and Rb1; at concentrations of 0.5, 3.0, 10.0 and 30.0 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml respectively; Induced single ion channel fluctuations with the life times in the range of 0.1~1005 in open states and conductances from 5 to 30 pS in 1 M KCI. At high concentrations of these substances, rapid fluctuations of transmembrane ion current with amplitude from hundred pS to dozen nS were observed. Against other substances, ginsenoside Rbl began to increase the membrane conductance at concentration of about 60 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml without fluctuation of single ion channel. Membranes treated with PT, PD, Rg1 and Rb1 are more permeable to K+, than to Cl while zero current membrane potentials with 10 gradients of KCI were 12, 16, 8, 25 mV respectively. Key words : Membrane conductance, single ion channel, ginsenosides.

  • Survival of 12.7 g (average body weight) Litopenaeus vannamei was examined at temperatures of 14, 16, 18, 28, 32, 34 and 36$^{\circ}C$ and salinities of l0, 20, 30 and 40 ppt after 7 days. Hemolymph osmolality was measured at 12 combinations of salinities (l0, 20, 30 and 40 ppt) and temperature levels (18, 28 and 34$^{\circ}C$) after 14 days. The results show that the species have their best survival between temperatures of 18 and 3$0^{\circ}C$ and salinity above 20 ppt. Hemolymph osmolality increased with increased salinity at all temperatures tested. The isosmotic point calculated from the linear relationship between hemolymph osmolality and medium osmolality and recorded as 826, 809 and 1,117 mOsm/kg which is equivalent to 29.4, 28.8 and 40.2 ppt at 18, 28 and 34$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The slopes obtained from the relationship between hemolymph osmolality and medium osmolality were 0.314, 0.276 and 0.541 for L. vannamei at 18, 28 and 34$^{\circ}C$, respectively, suggesting that the shrimp at 34$^{\circ}C$ regulated osmotic concentration much worse than those at 18 and 28$^{\circ}C$. This result also indicated that L. vannamei living at 34$^{\circ}C$, showed more fluctuation in hemolymph osmolality than those at 18 and 28$^{\circ}C$.

  • The major objective of this study is to analyze the water balance of the Keumgang Estuary Reservoir in the Keum River basin. This basin is one of the catchment area which water utilization is very complicated. For the study of this area, this paper is to evaluate the monthly river-inflow of the Keumgang Estuary Resorvoir. Here, two approach methods are proposed which can take care of the natural and the low flow. The results are as follows. The natural flow at the Keumgang Estuary Reservoir during the wet season was decreased to 8.4% and increased from 0.4% to 17.6% during the dry season by the effects of Deachung Reservoir at the upper basin. The monthly fluctuation of the low flow during My-June varies to a great extent, when large amounts of irrigation water are required.

  • This paper proposes a multi absorbing wave energy converter design, in which a hydrostatic transmission is used to transfer wave energy to electric energy. The most important feature of this system is its combination of the pressure coupling principle with the use of a hydraulic accumulator to eliminate the effects of wave power fluctuation; this maintains a constant speed of the hydraulic motor. Tilt motion of a floating buoy was employed as the power take-off mechanism. Furthermore, a PID controller was designed to carry out the speed control of the hydraulic motor. The design offers some advantages such as extending the life of the hydraulic components, increasing the amount of energy harvested, and stabilizing the output speed.

  • The concentration fields in the proximities of a local gas emission source are experimentally analyzed in several combinations of wind incidences and source emissions. These conditions are determined by the plume buoyancy, emission velocity and incident flow wind speed. Concentration measurements are performed by an aspirating probe in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The analysis included the mean concentration values and the intensity of concentration fluctuations in a neutral atmospheric boundary layer flow. Different configurations are tested: an isolated stack in a homogeneous terrain and a stack with a bluff body in close proximity, located windward and leeward from the emission source. The experimental mean concentration values are contrasted with Gaussian profiles and the dilution factor is analyzed with respect to the empirical curves of the minimum dilution. Finally, a study on the plume intermittency is performed in a cross-sectional plane near the emission source. It is possible to highlight the following observations: a) plume vertical asymmetry in the case of an isolated emission source, b) significant differences in the dispersion process related to the relative location of the emission source and bluff body effects, and c) different probabilistic behavior of the concentration fluctuation data in a cross-sectional measurement plane inside the plume.
