  • A torque converter, connected to a transmission/transaxle input shaft, connects, multiplies and interrupts the flow of engine torque into the transmission. Damper springs are usually equipped in a torque converter to convert stably the torque power supplied from engine. Damper Springs generally have the most flexible design variables among vehicle transmission parts, so that they could be effective design factors to improve the entire vehicle's performance. Damper spring, however, has geometric complexity after it equipped in a torque converter. For that reason, modeling a damper spring requires expert's knowledge to determine many design parameters and satisfy the functional requirements at the same time. In this paper, we introduce an optimum design method applied in detailed-design stage to reduce design process and financial loss caused by adequate design. Many design variables have to be classified and structuralized for Optimization. This also could make designer concentrate on functional requirements of damper spring, not on design possibility. In addition, modeling an assembled spring has technical restriction with primitives of the current major CAD solutions because of complexity of assembled spring shape. Thus, one of modeling solution presented in this paper since detailed and exact modeling is important for CAE or DMU.

  • This paper analyzes the problems that occurred in the magnification process for a fine input image and investigates a method to improve the problems. This paper applies a curve interpolation algorithm in CAD/CAM for the same test images with the existing image algorithm in order to improve the problems. As a result. the nearest neighbor interpolation. which is the most frequently applied algorithm for the existing image interpolation algorithm. shows that the identification of a magnified image is not possible. Therefore. this study examines an interpolation of gray-level data by applying a low-pass spatial filter and verifies that a bilinear interpolation presents a lack of property that accentuates the boundary of the image where the image is largely changed. The periodic B-spline interpolation algorithm used for curve interpolation in CAD/CAM can remove the blurring but shows a problem of obscuration, and the Ferguson's curve interpolation algorithm shows a more sharpened image than that of the periodic B-spline algorithm. For the future study, hereafter. this study will develop an interpolation algorithm that has an excel lent improvement for the boundary of the image and continuous and flexible property by using the NURBS. Ferguson's complex surface. and Bezier surface used in CAD/CAM engineering based on. the results of this study.

  • In the construction industry, concrete polishing is used to grind and rub the surface of concrete grounds with polishing machines to increase the strength of the concrete after deposition. Polishing is performed manually in spite of the generation of dust and the requirement of frequent replacements of the polishing pad. The concrete polishing robot developed in this research is a novel polishing automation system for preventing the workers from being exposed to poor working environments. This robot is able to change multiple polishing tools automatically; however, the workers can conveniently replace the worn-out polishing pads with new ones. The mobile platform of the polishing robot employs omnidirectional wheels to enable a flexible motion even in small and complicated workspaces. To evaluate the performance of the developed concrete polishing robot, extensive experiments including square trajectory tracking, automatic tool changing, actual polishing, and path generation simulation were performed.

  • In this paper, we propose the design procedure of advance Polynomial Neural Networks(PNN) architecture for optimal model identification of complex and nonlinear system. The proposed PNN architecture is presented as the generic and advanced type. The essence of the design procedure dwells on the Group Method of Data Handling(GMDH). PNN is a flexible neural architecture whose structure is developed through learning. In particular, the number of layers of the PNN is not fixed in advance but is generated in a dynamic way. In this sense, PNN is a self-organizing network. With the aid of three representative numerical examples, compari-sons show that the proposed advanced PNN algorithm can produce the model with higher accuracy than previous other works. And performance index related to approximation and generalization capabilities of model is evaluated and also discussed.

  • Types of innovation can be categorized into simplification, information, automation, and intelligence. Intelligence is the highest level of innovation, and RPA can be seen as one of intelligence. Robotic Process Automation(RPA), a software robot with artificial intelligence, is an example of intelligence that is suited for simple, repetitive, large-scale transaction processing tasks. The RPA, which is already in operation in many companies in Korea, shows what needs to be done to naturally focus on the core tasks in a situation where the need for a strong organizational culture is increasing and the emphasis is on voluntary leadership, strong teamwork and execution, and a professional working culture. The introduction was considered naturally according to the need to find. Robotic Process Automation, or RPA, is a technology that replaces human tasks with the goal of quickly and efficiently handling structural tasks. RPA is implemented through software robots that mimic humans using software such as ERP systems or productivity tools. RPA robots are software installed on a computer and are called robots by the principle of operation. RPA is integrated throughout the IT system through the front end, unlike traditional software that communicates with other IT systems through the back end. In practice, this means that software robots use IT systems in the same way as humans, repeat the correct steps, and respond to events on the computer screen instead of communicating with the system's application programming interface(API). Designing software that mimics humans to communicate with other software can be less intuitive, but there are many advantages to this approach. First, you can integrate RPA with virtually any software you use, regardless of your openness to third-party applications. Many enterprise IT systems are proprietary because they do not have many common APIs, and their ability to communicate with other systems is severely limited, but RPA solves this problem. Second, RPA can be implemented in a very short time. Traditional software development methods, such as enterprise software integration, are relatively time consuming, but RPAs can be implemented in a relatively short period of two to four weeks. Third, automated processes through software robots can be easily modified by system users. While traditional approaches require advanced coding techniques to drastically modify how they work, RPA can be instructed by modifying relatively simple logical statements, or by modifying screen captures or graphical process charts of human-run processes. This makes RPA very versatile and flexible. This RPA is a good example of the application of digital to intelligence(D2I).

  • In this paper, we deal with robotic automation for assembling car brake modules. A car brake module is comprises of a torque member, two brake pads, and two pad liners. In the assembly process, brake pads and pad liners are needed to be inserted in a torque member. If we use a typical robotic hand for the assembly, task time takes too long. So, we propose two methods. The first method is to use an end effector that has five grippers capable of gripping five assembly parts. In the first method we attached the implemented end effector to a conventional 6 degrees of freedom industrial manipulator and performed the bake module assembly task. Experimental results show that the task time is remarkably reduced. The brake module assembly task needs the robot to change its orientation frequently, so, in the second method, we added one degree of freedom to the end effector that is used in the first method. By attaching it to a conventional 6 degrees of freedom industrial manipulator, we composed a 7 degrees of freedom redundant manipulator. A redundant manipulator has the advantage of flexible manipulation so the robot can change its orientation easily and can perform assembly task very fast. Experimental results show that the second method dramatically reduce whole task time for brake module assembly.

  • A versatile micro-robotic platform for micro/nano scale assembly has been demanded in a variety of application areas such as micro-biology and nanotechnology. In the near future, a flexible and compact platform could be effectively used in a scanning electron microscope chamber. We are developing a platform that consists of miniature mobile robots and a compact positioning stage with multi degree-of-freedom. This paper presents the design and the implementation of a low-cost and compact multi degree of freedom position sensor that is capable of measuring absolute translational and rotational displacement. The proposed sensor is implemented by using a CMOS type image sensor and a target with specific hole patterns. Experimental design based on statistics was applied to finding optimal design of the target. Efficient algorithms for image processing and absolute position decoding are discussed. Simple calibration to eliminate the influence of inaccuracy of the fabricated target on the measuring performance also presented. The developed sensor was characterized by using a laser interferometer. It can be concluded that the sensor system has submicron resolution and accuracy of ${\pm}4{\mu}m$ over full travel range. The proposed vision-based sensor is cost-effective and used as a compact feedback device for implementation of a micro robotic platform.
