  • For the safty driving of an automobile which is become individual requisites, a new Neural Network algorithm which recognized the load vehicles in real time is proposed. The proposed neural network technique is the real time computation method through the inter-node diffusion. In the network, a node corresponds to a state in the quantized input space. Each node is composed of a processing unit and fixed weights from its neighbor nodes as well as its input terminal. The most reliable algorithm derived for real time recognition of vehicles, is a dynamic programming based algorithm based on sequence matching techniques that would process the data as it arrives and could therefore provide continuously updated neighbor information estimates. Through several simulation experiments, real time reconstruction of the nonlinear image information is processed 1-D LIPN hardware has been composed and various experiments with static and dynamic signals have been implmented.

  • This study is devoted to the detection of the 3-dimensional point obstacles on the plane by using accumulated scan line images. The proposed accumulating only one scan line allow to process image at real time. And the change of motion of the feature in image is small because of the short time between image frames, so it does not take much time to track features. To obtain recursive optimal obstacles position and robot motion along to the motion of camera, Kalman filter algorithm is used. After using Kalman filter in case of the fixed environment, 3-dimensional obstacles point map is obtained. The position and motion of moving obstacles can also be obtained by pre-segmentation. Finally, to solve the stereo ambiguity problem from multiple matches, the camera motion is actively used to discard mis-matched features. To get relative distance of obstacles from camera, parallel stereo camera setup is used. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, experiments are carried out by a small test vehicle.

  • Head restraining is an experimental technique that firmly secures the animal's head to a fixation apparatus for the precise control and sensing of behaviors. However, procedural and surgical difficulties and limitations have been obstructing the use of the technique in neurophysiological and behavioral experiments. Here, we propose a novel design of the head-restraining apparatus which is easy to develop and convenient for practical use. Head restraining procedure can be completed by sliding the head mounter, which is molded by dental cement during implantation surgery, into the port, which serves as matching guide rails for the mounter, of the fixation bar. So neither skull-attached plates nor screws for fixation are needed. We performed intracranial self stimulation experiment in rats using the newly designed device. Rats were habituated to acclimatize the head-restraint environment and trained to discriminate two spatially distinguished cues using a customized push-pull lever as an operandum. Direct electrical stimulation into the medial forebrain bundle served as reward. We confirmed that head restraining was stable throughout experiments and rats were able to learn to manipulate the lever after successful habituation. Our experimental framework might help precise control or sensing of behavior under head fixed rats using direct electrical brain stimulation as a reward.

  • In this paper, we propose a new affine shape adaptation scheme for the affine invariant feature detector, in which the convergence stability is still an opening problem. This paper examines the relation between the integration scale matrix of next iteration and the current second moment matrix and finds that the convergence stability of the method can be improved by adjusting the relation between the two matrices instead of keeping them always proportional as proposed by previous methods. By estimating and updating the shape of the integration kernel and differentiation kernel in each iteration based on the anisotropy of the current second moment matrix, we propose a coarse-to-fine affine shape adaptation scheme which is able to adjust the pace of convergence and enable the process to converge smoothly. The feature matching experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach obtains an improvement in convergence ratio and repeatability compared with the current schemes with relatively fixed integration kernel.

  • Two-way relaying is an effective way of improving system spectral efficiency by making use of physical layer network coding. However, energy efficiency in OFDM-based bidirectional relaying with asymmetric traffic requirement has not been investigated. In this study, we focused on subcarrier transmission mode selection, bit loading, and power allocation in a multicarrier single amplified-and-forward relay system. In this scheme, each subcarrier can operate in two transmission modes: one-way relaying and two-way relaying. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem. We adopt a structural approximation optimization method that first decouples the original problem into two suboptimal problems with fixed subcarrier subsets and then finds the optimal subcarrier assignment subsets. Although the suboptimal problems are nonconvex, the results obtained for a single-tone system are used to transform them to convex problems. To find the optimal subcarrier assignment subsets, an iterative algorithm based on subcarrier ranking and matching is developed. Simulation results show that the proposed method can improve system performance compared with conventional methods. Some interesting insights are also obtained via simulation.

  • In this paper we suggest two novel methods for an implementation of the spot detection phase in the 2-DE gel image analysis program. The one is the adaptive thresholding method for eliminating noises and the other is the asymmetric diffusion model for spot matching. Remained noises after the preprocessing phase cause the over-segmentation problem by the next segmentation phase. To identify and exclude the over-segmented background regions, il we use a fixed thresholding method that is choosing an intensity value for the threshold, the spots that are invisible by one's human eyes but mean very small amount proteins which have important role in the biological samples could be eliminated. Accordingly we suggest the adaptive thresholding method which comes from an idea that is got on statistical analysis for the prominences of the peaks. There are the Gaussian model and the diffusion model for the spot shape model. The diffusion model is the closer to the real spot shapes than the Gaussian model, but spots have very various and irregular shapes and especially asymmetric formation in x-coordinate and y-coordinate. The reason for irregularity of spot shape is that spots could not be diffused perfectly across gel medium because of the characteristics of 2-DE process. Accordingly we suggest the asymmetric diffusion model for modeling spot shapes. In this paper we present a brief explanation ol the two methods and experimental results.

  • This paper presents a panoramic reference image generation based automatic algorithm for moving objects detection robust to illumination variations under moving camera. Background image is generated by rotating the fixed the camera on the tripod horizontally. aligning and reorganizing this images. In generation of the cylindrical panoramic image, most of previous works assume the static environment. We propose the method to generating the panoramic reference image from dynamic environments in this paper. We develop an efficient approach for panoramic reference image generation by using accumulated edge map as well as method of edge matching between input image and background image. We applied the proposed algorithm to real image sequences. The experimental results show that panoramic reference image generation robust to illumination variations can be possible using the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we propose a distance measurement system for automatic berthing control using a stereo camera mounted on a rotation control device, and a radial pattern target. Automatically controlling the position and attitude of a ship aims to prevent maritime accidents due to human error. Our goal is to measure the relative distance between a ship and an onshore or offshore target for berthing. Therefore, the distance should be continuously measured while tracking a fixed point on a target. To this end, we developed a stereo camerabased distance measurement system that satisfied these requirements. This paper describes the structure and principle of the measurement system. We validate the distance error for target incline due to the relative position and attitude between a camera and a target in miniature scale. In addition, the findings of an experiment in an outdoor environment demonstrate that the proposed measurement system has accuracy within 1 m at a range of 20-100 m which is the acceptable accuracy for automatic berthing.

  • In this paper, a new method of phoneme segmentation of handwritten Korean characters using the local graph pattern is proposed. At first, thinning was performed before extracting features. End-point, inflexion-point, branch-point and cross-point were extracted as features. Using these features and the angular relations between these features, local graph pattern was made. When local graph pattern is made, the of strokes is investigated on contacting point. From this process, pattern is simplified as contacting pattern of the basic form and the contacting form we must take into account can be restricted within fixed region, 4therefore phoneme segmentation not influenced by characters form and any other contact in a single character is performed as matching this local graph pattern with base patterns searched ahead. This experiments with 540 characters have been conducted. From the result of this experiment, it is shown that phoneme segmentation is independent of characters form and other contact in a single character to obtain a correct segmentation rate of 95%, manages it efficiently to reduce the time spent in lock operation when the lock.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear controller based on sliding mode control is applied to a two-wheeled Welding Mobile Robot (WMR) to track a smooth curved welding path at a constant velocity of the welding point. The mobile robot is considered in terms of dynamics model in Cartesian coordinates under the presence of external disturbance, and its parameters are exactly known. It is assumed that the disturbance satisfies the matching condition with a known boundary. To obtain the controller, the tracking errors are defined, and the two sliding surfaces are chosen to guarantee that the errors converge to zero asymptotically. Two cases are to be considered: fixed torch and controllable torch. In addition, a simple way of measuring the errors is introduced using two potentiometers. The simulation and experiment on a two-wheeled welding mobile robot are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
