TEMPORAL AND SPA TIAL VARIATION OF NIGHTTIME FISHING GROUND DERIVED FROM SATELLITE IMAGERY

  • We examined the relationship between the 50m temperature estimated by remote sensing sea surface temperature (SST) and fishing ground (squid fishing ground) detected by nighttime visible channel defense meteorological satellite program (DMSP) I operational linescan system (OLS) images in the East/Japan Sea during 1993-2000. The results are as follows: The numbers of nighttime fishing boat were distributed the highest in October, and the lowest in April during this study. A nighttime fishing grounds have concentrated in the East Korea Warm Current region, coastal regions of Honshu Island, and Polar front region. Fishing grounds have distributed $11-18^{\circ}C$ of estimated 50m temperature from the satellite data. Relationship between estimated 50m temperature and the distributed fisheries boats showed that the north boundaries of fishing grounds have distributed the temperature of below $12^{\circ}C$ from 1996 to 2000 and that of $13-15^{\circ}C$ during 1993-1995 and 1997-1999. Stable fishing grounds appeared near the Korea/Tsushima Strait from January to March. The center of fishing grounds in spring (April-Jun) have moved to the northward than that in winter, and variations appeared largely in winter. In summer (July-September), center of fishing grounds have formed near the Uleung Island in the south east coast of Korea, and in autumn maximum fishing ground appeared in October, the fishing ground southward from November.

4.99톤 어선의 저항성능 개선 (Improvement of resistance performance of the 4.99 ton class fishing boat)

  • The improvement of resistance performance for the 4.99 ton class fishing boats was shown. The 4.99 ton fishing boats are the most commonly used one in the Korean coastal region. The evaluation of resistance performance was estimated by the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. The CFD simulation was performed by the validation for various types of bow shapes on the hull. The optimized hull form from the simulation was selected and showed the best resistance performance. This hull type was tested on the towing tank in the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS). The effective horsepower (EHP) was estimated by the resistance test on the towing tank with the bare hull condition. The drag force on the three service speed conditions was obtained for the resistance analysis to power prediction. The measured drag forces are compared with the results from the CFD simulation with one another. As results of the model tests, it was confirmed that the shape of the bow is an important factor in the resistance performance. The effective horsepower decreased about 30% in comparison with the conventional hull form. Also, the resistance performance improved the reduction of required horsepower, which especially contributed to the energy-saving for the fisheries industry. In the CFD analysis, the resistance performance improved slightly. In this case, the ratio of the residual resistance ($C_R$) in the total resistance ($C_T$) was high. Therefore, the CFD analysis was not enough to satisfy with reflection for the free surface and wave form in the CFD procedure. Both model test and CFD calculation in this study can be applied to the initial design process for the coastal fishing vessel.

부산항 부근 해역의 해저폐기물 분포에 관한 연구 (Distribution and Composition of Marine Debris on the Sea Bed around the Busan Port)

  • A series of surveys are performed to evaluate the abundance, composition and distribution of marine debris on the sea bed around the Busan port. In order to set up a master plan for the marine environmental pollution the relevant maritime authority must understand how many and w㏊t kinds of marine litters are distributed on the sea bed. At first we planed to survey areas divided regularly according to the coast line but there were many sea going vessels and fishing boats. So we selected and surveyed the around area where there were no sea going vessels or fishing boats.The obtained results are as follows: 1. The mean values of litters in number and weight are 5.8 pieces/㏊. and 3.5㎏/㏊. respectively. 2. The highest density in terms of number are vinyl and plastic item, and in weight are fishing gear and ship articles. 3. The nearer to the shore we surveyed the more we collected in terms of the density of marine litters in number and in weight per hectare. 4. Eel pot, oiled waste, rope, others, other pot and net of fishing gear litters in number were 59.9, 22.7, 7.9, 4.5, 3.1 and 1.9% respectively. 5. There is no relationship between the amount of fish caught and the amount of marine debris.

  • Marine casualties of vessel are serious problems on social and national aspects, because it results in sacrifice of lives, a great lose of properties and marine pollution. According to recent statistics of marine casualties of vessel, fishing boats are more likely to be ended in the casualty, and especially, small fishing boats cause much more accidents than any other big vessels. Most of marine casualties were caused by the human factors such as poor watch keeping, inadequate manoeuvering and negligent action for engine, etc. This study is intended to provide navigator of small fishing boat with a specific information of necessary to assist both the manoeuvering and the avoidance of capsizing. The manoeuvering characteristics of ship can be adequately judged by the results of typical ship trials manoeuvres. For this purpose, the author measured the roll responses of a small fishing boat in waves using the real sea experimental measuring system, and analyzed the experimental data by the statistical and spectral analyzing methods to get the characteristics of the roll motion responses of the small boat through the wave directions and the ship's speed.

통발어선에서 발생하는 산업재해에 대한 정량적 위험성 분석 (Quantitative risk analysis of industial incidents occurring in trap boats)

  • This study employs Bayesian network analysis to quantitatively evaluate the risk of incidents in trap boats, utilizing accident compensation approval data spanning from 2018 to 2022. With a dataset comprising 1,635 incidents, the analysis reveals a mortality risk of approximately 0.011 across the entire trap boat. The study significantly identifies variations in incident risks contingent upon fishing area and fishing processes. Specifically, incidents are approximately 1.22 times more likely to occur in coastal compared to offshore, and the risk during fishing processes outweighs that during maintenance operations by a factor of approximately 23.20. Furthermore, a detailed examination of incident types reveals varying incidence rates. Trip/slip incidents, for instance, are approximately 1.36 times more prevalent than bump/hit incidents, 1.58 times more than stuck incidents, and a substantial 5.17 times more than fall incidents. The study concludes by providing inferred mortality risks for 16 distinct scenarios, incorporating fishing areas, processes, and incident types. This foundational data offers a tailored approach to risk mitigation, enabling proactive measures suited to specific circumstances and occurrence types in the trap boat industry.

  • In these days, oil cost is about 70 US dollars, but, on the day of July. 2008, it was over 140 US dollars. This coast led fisheries industry to increasement of operating coast and made public problems such as non-operation of fishing boats and lockout of the related factories. Thus this paper studies the way to use cheap fuel in order to reduce the fuel cost. Normally fishing boat use Marine Gas Oil. this study explains to use blended oil such as MF 60, 100, 180 instead of MGO.

국제해사기구의 IUU 어업 퇴치 기여 및 전망 (The Role of IMO for the Eradication of IUU Fishing)

  • The illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing can be properly regulated only if fishing activities, transhipment and landing of illegally caught fish, and processing of fish at sea involved in it are integrally managed. To do this, flag States, port States, coastal States, market States and relevant regional fisheries management organizations shall closely cooperate. In addition, fishing boats involved in IUU fishing often ignore requirements of safety of navigation so that they could be exposed to more causes of incidents and could have less chances to be rescued. Then, it seems to be necessary for the regulation on IUU fishing to include a certain consideration of strengthening safety of those ships. International Maritime Organization(IMO) has developed and implemented international rules for the safety of shipping. IMO has cooperated with Food and Agricultural Organization on IUU fishing since 2000 and the third joint meeting is scheduled in November 2015. This paper reviews the recommendations adopted in the previous meetings, and the measures actually taken as a result of the cooperation and, in particular, focus on the additional roles of IMO for the eradication of the IUU fishing.

국가어항 투자가 태풍으로 인한 수산재해피해에 미치는 영향 분석 (An Analysis of the Impact of National Fishing Port Investment on Fisheries Disaster Damage by Typhoons)

  • The purpose of this study is the impact of national fishing port investment and typhoons on fisheries disaster damage. The dependent variables were the amount of damage to fishing ports, fishing boats, fisheries enhancement, external facilities, mooring facilities, functional facilities, fishing port and typhoons. The analysis period is from 2002 to 2018. Since the error term is in a simultaneous correlation, it was efficiently estimated by analyzing it with a seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) method. As a result of the analysis, external facilities have not significance to all models. Investing in mooring facilities increased the amount of damage to fishing ports for five years. Investing in functional facilities reduced the amount of damage to fishing ports and aquaculture over five years. Typhoons have significance to all models, and the amount of damage increased every time a typhoon occurred. Based on these results, as the influence of typhoons increases, it seems necessary to establish preventive measures. Timely investment and maintenance to enable the role and function of national fishing ports are considered important.

크레인 교체에 따른 표준재화 상태에서의 소형 어선의 복원성 특성 - 고성항 전복 사고 재결서 중심 - (Stability Characteristics based on Crane Weight of Small Fishing Vessels Under Standard Loading Conditions: Investigation Report of the Capsize Accident at Goseong Port)

  • 2016년 3월 6.67톤 어선이 크레인 작업을 하던 중 복원성 상실로 인한 전복 사고가 발생하였다. 전복은 충돌, 접촉, 좌초, 화재 및 폭발의 결과로 발생한 사고는 제외하고 선박이 뒤집힌 것을 말한다. 지난 9년동안(2010-2018), 전복 사고는 전체 해양사고의 2.34%를 차지하고 있으며 증가와 감소를 반복하고 있다. 10톤 미만 소형어선의 주된 전복사고 원인은 부적절한 선적에 따른 복원성 상실이다. 어선법에 따르면 소형 어선은 복원성과 1톤 미만 제한 하중 크레인에 대해서 복원성과 예비검사를 면제해 주고 있다. 본 연구는 고성에서 발생한 소형 어선의 전복 사고 재결서의 원인으로 언급된 사항 중 크레인 증량에 따른 복원 모멘트 감소에 대해 실제 제원이 비슷한 어선을 모델링하여 이를 통해 사고 전·후의 어선 상태를 가상하여 복원성을 비교하였다. 그 결과 기존 보다 무거운 크레인으로의 교체 시에는 복원 모멘트 감소와 현단몰입각의 감소로 전복의 위험성이 증가되었다. 표준재화 상태에서는 입·출항시 보다는 어로 활동을 하고 있는 상황에서의 복원 모멘트가 감소되는 것을 확인하였다.

여러 가지 충돌 상황에 따른 FRP 어선 간의 충돌 해석 (Collision Analysis between FRP Fishing Boats According to Various Configurations)

  • 경제규모의 증대와 더불어 해상물동량이 많아지고 운행하는 선박의 숫자가 증가함에 따라 해상에서의 해난 사고가 빈번하게 발생하고 있다. 선박의 충돌 사고에 대한 연구는 주로 충돌 사고의 원인 분석에 중점을 두어 왔으나 보다 정확한 분석을 위해서는 역학적인 해석이 더 첨가되어야 한다. 본 연구는 FRP 재질의 어선간의 여러 충돌 상황에서의 시간에 따른 변형 거동에 대한 것이다. 선체에 대한 3차원 기하학적인 모델링을 수행 한 후, 유한요소 모델을 구성하고 역학적인 해석 기법인 유한 요소법을 이용하여 동적 해석을 수행하였다. 7.93톤급의 소형어선과 39톤급의 대형어선을사용하고 두 가지의 충돌각도($90^{\circ},\;135^{\circ}$)와 세 가지의 충돌속력(5, 10, 15 노트)의 조건을 조합하여 해석을 수행하였으며 각각의 경우에 대하여 응력분포와 변형상태를 살펴보았다. 전체적으로 $90^{\circ}$ 충돌 각도에서 $135^{\circ}$ 경우보다 응력이 컸으며, 두 선박이 모두 운항 중에 발생하는 충돌에서 더 큰 최대 응력이 발생하였다. $90^{\circ}$ 충돌각도의 경우 소형어선 간 충돌이나 소형 어선과 대형 어선간의 충돌에서도 충돌하는 전체의 선수부보다 충돌당하는 선체의 측면 부위에서 큰 응력이 발생하였다. $135^{\circ}$ 충돌각도로 정지된 소형 어선과 대형어선이 충돌하는 경우에는 대형 어선에서 치대 응력이 발생하였다. 150 ms의 해석시간인 경우 $90^{\circ}$ 충돌각도에서는 10knot, 15knot 모두 충돌하는 선체나 층돌 당하는 선체에서 파단이 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 해석 결과는 추후에 부분 별 강도를 고려한 선체의 설계나 충돌사고재구성을 위한 기초 데이터로 사용될 수 있다.
