  • Many kinds of fire-stop sealants have been used for joint sealing, cable penetration part sealing and fireproof structure finishing etc in building sectors which need water-proofing and fire-stop properties. But, fire-stop sealant itself has no specific industry standards in Korea even though there are so many required properties for the application. So, in this study, for the evaluation, we adopted and applied UL standard 94(UL 94) which is commonly used for the fire retardant testing in inflammable materials like plastics and rubbers in electronics industry. In this study, we demonstrated fire resistance properties of each fire-stop sealants which varied with different formulation, thickness and origins available in Korea. Overall, fire stop sealant had better fire resistance performance than normal construction sealant. And the thicker the material, the better the fire resistance performance was. Because there is no national or industry guideline for fire stop sealant itself, each sealant products showed different level of performances under UL94 desigation. Even certain product had very poor fire proof propeties although it claims it can be used for the application.

  • Efficient traffic network is required in urban area for good living condition. However, dense traffic network creates traffic jam and gives bad influences to the ground environment. Therefore, advanced use of underground and tunnel is required. But, in the last 20 years many tunnel fire accidents have occurred all over the world. Increase of tunnels and increase of traffics result in increase of tunnel fire. Tunnel fire creates damage to people and to the tunnel structure. Also, tunnel fire creates a big economical loss. In a mountain tunnel, the stability of the tunnel will not be disturbed by fire although the tunnel lining will get a severe damage. However, in a shield tunnel or immersed tube tunnel, cut and cover tunnel, there is a high possibility that tunnel itself will collapse by fire because their tunnel concrete lining is designed as a structural member. The aim of this experimental research is to verify the fire protection performance of newly developed cementitious material compared with the broadly used existing products in Europe and Japan. For the experiments, the general NATM tunnel concrete linings with the newly developed material were tested using fire loading curve of RABT (Maximum peak temperature is $1,200^{\circ}C$) and RWS (Maximum peak temperature is $1,350^{\circ}C$). From the test results, the newly developed fire protection material applied with 30 mm thickness showed good fire-proofing performance under RABT fire loading.

  • Domestic residential buidling grading is currently comprised of 5 fields; sound-proofing, structure, ambient condition, living environment and fire-proofing. However, factors the take up most of the civil complaints are related to leakage, and waterproofing is not listed as part of the grading system. In particular, the Ministry of Land and Transport claims that the most crucial problems are leakage related in residential structures. Therefore, this study proposes to provide such grading system for waterproofing by AHP methodology based on waterproofing application locations in residential structures.

  • In this paper, the behaviors of tunnel damaged by fire, the diagnostic techniques for evaluating tunnel stability are presented. Also two fireproof construction methods are recommended. Three tunnels damaged by fire were analyzed to evaluate the structural stability. From the these analyzed, it is recommended that surface checking, rebound number of concrete by Schmidt Hammer, and carbonation of concrete are essential to evaluate the engineering properties of concrete in tunnel structure damaged by fire. On the basis of case studies of tunnel fire collected by ITA, the change of concrete and steel strengths by fire are explained, and numerical analysis, which was performed on culvert and circle tunnel, shows that distribution of temperature in the tunnel is dependant upon tunnel shape. Two fireproof construction methods using panel and punching metal are introduced to protect the tunnel by fire.

  • In case of fire in a compartmentalized building area, a number of casualties are caused by smoke production. Accordingly, openings, penetrations and joints in compartmentalized spaces should be secured not only for fire resistance but also for smoke-proofing. However, domestic test regulations stipulate test methods for refractory performance of penetrations and joints, but do not specify separate deferral performance. In the case of openings, the test for the smoke performance exists at room temperature, but the smoke performance at high temperature is not secured, so countermeasures are needed.

  • Various form of membrane structures are being built in recent years. However, there is no appropriate fire proofing standards which can be applied each specific membrane structures. Therefore, existing fire protection standards are in establishment state and they need to be revised. In the current study, commonly used membrane materials(ETFE, PVF, PTFE) has been selected to investigate its fire resistance behavior with the change of fire duration time. In addition to this, heat generation rate of the membrane materials in correlation with the height of membrane has been investigated. And these fire combustion characteristics of membrane materials can be used in future practice for the fire prevention regulations of membrane structures.

  • This study analyzed fire-resistant characteristics according to changes in repair methods of PFH mixed high-strength concrete roof structures having undergone fire damage. The results of the study are as follows. First, as a repulsive characteristics of structures, the remaining repulsion was shown to increase following fire-resistance tests according to increases in depth of coverings. The results of the relationship between depth of coverings and remaining repulsion rates following fire-proofing tests showed a high correlation. At a covering depth of 67.3mm, remaining repulsion rate was estimated to be 100%. For fire-resistant characteristics following repairs of structure, as for spalling, severe separation was shown in the case of general plaster while general plaster + Metal Lath showed overall superior spalling prevention. For internal structure temperatures, general plaster showed max temperatures of 705℃, average temperatures of 636℃ while general plaster + metal lath showed max temperature of 660℃ and average temperature of 520℃, demonstrating lower temperature distributions than use of only general plaster. In conclusion, after removing the covering of structures damaged due to high temperatures of fires within high-strength concrete installations, the use of fire-resistant mortars and applying metal laths on surfaces of general plaster will provide superior fire-resistance performance in the occurrence of a 2nd fire.

  • In this Study, the performance of precast PSC slabs with fire resistance panel for fire resistance of the tunnel system was evaluated by experimentally. The fire test was performed in fire resistance (electric) furnace according to RABT(Richtlinien fur die Ausstatung und den Betrieb von stra${\beta}$entunneln) time heating temperature curve. The test results showed that the measured temperatures at the t=0 mm depth of PSC slab with precast fire resistance panel during a fire was maximum temperature $367^{\circ}C$, lower than $380^{\circ}C$ (ITA 2004), when damage occurs. Also, at the t=25 mm, the maximum temperature was $239^{\circ}C$, which was lower than the damage temperature of rebar, $250^{\circ}C$. From the results, the use of precast fire resistance panel (t=25 mm) improves fire resistance of PSC structures.

  • To improve fire proofing characteristics of protective coating using ternary soluble silicate from two component mixture, the method of reducing solubility, increasing intumescence and protection time have been studied. Intumescence and solubility of ternary silicate mixtures were dependent on many kinds of water release and the strength of cation cross-links between polysilicate particles. Especially the effect of additive, for example, corn starch was investigated. However the solubility of ternary mixture is decrease in order of Na$^{+}$ >K$^{+}$ >Li$^{+}$, and the magnitute of intumescence is increased $K^{+}$ >Na$^{+}$ >Li$^{+}$.}$ +/.

  • To increase fire proofing characteristics of protective coating based on soluble alkali silicate, silicate coatings were studied on thermal properties, IR spectroscopy, solubility and intumescence. Intumescence and solubility of the samples were dependent on the strength of cationic cross-links between polysilicate particles. The degree of intumescence and solubility decrease K-silicate > Na-silicate > Li-silicate in the order. Especially Si$_2$O$_{5}$ $^{-2}$ crystalline regions were found to exist in Potassium silicate sample. Mixture of two kinds of silicate, for example, Lithium silicate when added to sodium silicate or potassium silicate was find to significantly reduce efflorescence and increase water resistance. This appears to be a result of stronger crosslinking between polysilicate particles by the small lithium cation.
