  • To survive in the 21C every nations in the World squeeze their intelligence. To our country, having a marvelous growth career in viewpoint of the economy, making efforts to renovate. Behind the breath of the economy a lot of law, regulations, standards of industry, and specifications are exists and the in-dustry controlled by these. Regretably in spite of surprising growth of our economy in a short period still keeps them old rules as they have been applies on our industry without change. In the part of the rife resistance standards, espacially for the fire door, needs grad-up much for the recently version compared with the other countries's. The rapid reshape of the world urges us be revolutionized in the part of the software, ie. these unchanged rules.

The Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention among Fire Protection System Management Workers (소방시설관리업 종사자의 직무만족과 이직의도와의 관계)

  • This study examined job satisfaction among fire protection system management workers in the fire industry and analyzed how job satisfaction affects turnover intention. The results revealed that, among the control variables, including age, rank, academic background, payment, total career, license, and tasks, significant differences in job satisfaction were found in the tasks between groups, while no significant differences in turnover were found in any control variable between groups. Additionally, the results revealed that, among the lower variables of job satisfaction, increased satisfaction with payment and organizational system affected the degree of turnover intention, while work and promotion did not. These results are to be used as data for human management of technicians and for creating alternatives. Future studies are required to establish a reasonable task rotation cycle for raising job satisfaction, to examine the current status of low-cost orders and countermeasures, and to analyze the direction of development of fire protection system management business.

  • The field of structural fire engineering has evolved within the construction industry, driven largely by the acceptance of performance-based or goal-based design. This evolution has brought two disciplines very close together - that of structural engineering and fire engineering. This paper presents an overview of structural systems that are frequently adopted in tall building design; typical beams and columns, concrete filled steel tube columns and long span beams with web openings. It is shown that these structural members require a structural analysis in relation to their temperature evolution and failure modes to determine adequate thermal protection for a given fire resistance period. When this is accounted for, a more explicit understanding of the behaviour of the structure and significant cost savings can be achieved. This paper demonstrates the importance of structural fire assessments in the context of tall building design. It is shown that structural engineers are more than capable of assessing structural capacity in the event of fire using published methodologies. Rather than assumed performance, this approach can result in a safe and quantified design in the event of a fire.

  • A fire sprinkler system is very important to extinguish fire in the building. The sprinkler system initiates sprinkler discharge if the detection system identifies a developing fire and opens the pre-action valve. However, pre-action fire sprinkler systems mainly installed in the underground parking lot at the apartment complex do not properly operate at fire if the connection type of fire sprinkler systems does not properly installed and operated. This study identified the relationship between fire dispersion & damage and the connection type of water supply in the sprinkler system from many fire cases at the apartment complex in South Korea. In addition, this study also identified the water supply differences and characteristics between South Korea and foreign countries. The main purpose of this study is also to improve the water connection types in the sprinkler system that can reduce the potential failures of pre-action valve operation through electrical signal system. The study also suggests the improvement plan for water connection types in pre-action fire sprinkler system that can minimize potential failure of pre-action fire sprinkler system. The suggestions for revising the fire safe standard in South Korea includes letting the water supply pipe of sprinkler system water inlet connect to the second side of pre-action valve and the water flow device that can minimize potential failure of sprinkler system.

TUTUM Easy-seismic: Development of a Seismic Design Automation Software for Building Fire Protection Systems (TUTUM Easy-seismic: 소방시설 내진설계 자동화 소프트웨어 개발)

  • In line with the "mandatory seismic design of fire protection facilities," development of design automation software is indispensable for improving the reliability and efficiency of seismic design. The seismic design automation software developed in this study is an automated S/W for seismic design of fire-fighting facilities, and functions such as automatic arrangement of anti-shake braces according to Korea National Fire Agency's Seismic Design Standards for fire-fighting facilities, output of seismic bracing calculation bills and automatic quantities counting. In addition, the seismic design automation software not only reduces the work speed by three times compared to the manual design of the designer, but also improves the reliability of the design by reducing the human error related to the design quantity such as the brace. In addition, in the seismic design method of fire protection facilities that have been approached conservatively, it was possible to perform the optimal seismic design by using computer algorithms for at least in the use of braces.

  • With the convergence of the information and communication technologies, a new age of technological civilization has arrived. This is the age of intelligent revolution, known as the 4th industrial revolution. The 4th industrial revolution is based on technological innovations, such as robots, big data analysis, artificial intelligence, and unmanned transportation facilities. This revolution would interconnect all the people, things, and economy, and hence will lead to the expansion of the industry. A high-density, high-capacity energy technology is required to maintain this interconnection. As a next-generation energy source, lithium-ion batteries are in the spotlight today. However, lithium-ion batteries can cause thermal runaway and fire because of electrical, thermal, and mechanical abuse. In this study, thermal runaway was induced in 72.5 Ah NCM pouch-type lithium-ion batteries because of thermal abuse. The surface of the pouch-type lithium-ion batteries was heated by the hot plate heating method, and the effect of the rate of increase in the surface temperature on the thermal runaway trigger time was analyzed using Minitab 19, a statistical analysis program. The correlation analysis results confirmed that there existed a strong negative relationship between each variable, while the regression analysis demonstrated that the thermal runaway trigger time of lithium-ion batteries can be predicted from the rate of increase in their surface temperature.

  • With the development of the national industry, the importance of the elderly and children such as the elderly, disabled, and children is recognized. Similarly, the number of facilities for the elderly and children is increasing. Fires at facilities for the elderly and children cause heavy casualties. In response to these events, it is essential to activate fire alarms promptly and accurately and to secure evacuation routes. In this study, the laws and statistics related to facilities for elderly and children were reviewed, and problems with legal terms-such as elderly, children, others, unwanted alarm of fire alarm systems, blind spots of fire compartment standards, securing evacuation routes, and absence of standards for life safety rescue organizations-were identified. As an improvement measure, the legal definitions of similar terms-such as elderly, children, unwanted alarm checklist, and establishment of standards for fire prevention compartment-and introduction of other terms-evacuation elevators, the establishment of standards for life-safety rescue organizations, and provision of flame retardation objects for evacuees-were proposed.

  • 소방시설의 경우 지진 시 건축물의 진동 수준에 따라 2차적으로 지진하중을 받는다. 따라서 소방시설에 직접적인 피해를 입히는 수준보다 작은 지진동에 대하여 내진설계를 수행하는 것은 소방시설 설치비용이 증가하게 되어, 합리적인 수준에 대하여 내진설계를 수행할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에는 다양한 소방시설에 대한 실물 내진실험을 실시하였고, 내진설계범주에 따른 내진설계 적용필요성에 대하여 제안하였다. 실험결과 실제 지진 시 내진설계범주 A와 내진설계범주 B에 대한 건축물의 경우 현재의 소방시설로도 내구성을 가질 수 있다고 판단된다. 내진설계범주 C와 D의 경우는 건축물에 설치된 소방시설의 기능보전을 위해 내진보강 설계가 필요하다.

  • This paper presents the configuration and characteristic analysis of the protection system to improve the safety of the building integrated photovoltaic(BIPV) system. BIPV is a solar power system installed in buildings. Since the BIPV system is installed in buildings, there is a high risk of electric shock and fire accidents. Therefore, in order to improve the safety of BIPV, a protective system is required to block or quickly detect risk factors. In this paper, as a protection system to improve the safety of the BIPV system, it is composed of a rapid shutdown (RSD) that can quickly separate the PV system to prevent fire and electric shock accidents and a system to detect Arc faults that cause PV system fires. RSD and Arc Fault Detector analyzed the operating characteristics according to each condition and confirmed that the safety of the BIPV system can be improved through this.

A Study on the Friction Loss Reduction in Fire Hoses Used at a Fire Scene (화재현장에서 사용하는 소방호스의 마찰손실 감소 방안에 관한 연구)

  • It was described the measured friction loss depending on pressure used and changes in water flow rates for a fire hose used at a fire scene on this study. As a result of actual measurement based on the result obtained by analyzing the use situation of a fire hose such as the kind, quantity, pressure used, etc. of a fire hose, the friction loss in a fire hose under the condition of using by a fire officer at a fire scene was measured as up to 56.8 %. This is much different from the equivalent length of a fire hose used to calculate the pump head in an indoor and outdoor fire-fighting facility. There is no related restrictive regulation on friction loss, there are even no data on friction loss measured by fire hose makers, and spreading a fire hose without considering friction loss at a fire scene can result in an increased length of hose used and a high-pressure water discharge from a fire engine, so this study aims to establish a standard for an equivalent length to friction loss in a fire hose and to propose a spreading method considering friction loss in a fire hose at a fire scene.
