  • The prevention of disasters in cultural property is very important management and historical duties. The reason can't be measured values with monetary scale of our contemporary. Therefore, this paper was considered fire-safety as one of terrible threat-disasters about the wooden buildings. This research deal with 47 cases cultural property wooden building by whole investigation(field survey and interview) in Gangnung province. The most buildings have basic fire extinguisher; ABC powder. A few buildings are rarely installed fire extinguishing equipments; outdoor fire hydrant, heat sensor, ground sprinkler, CO2-hose-reel. But these state is very insufficient for the fire-safety in cultural property wooden buildings. Specially as particular attention in province, forest fire of regional characteristic have close relation with cultural property fire. The majority of factor against forest and building fire is to provide monitoring and security system; CCTV, Fence, Sensor, Alarm and paid guard man against incendiary. Ultimately it is necessary to construct comprehensive disaster prevention system with the organic cooperation such as National Emergency Management Agency, Cultural Heritage Administration, Forest Service, local government officials and regional citizen.

  • The following matters were confirmed through the analysis of property losses due to fires in Korea, the U.S., and Japan. 1. Korean statistics on property losses are not the most detailed of the three centuries, and they have a lot of limitations to analyze the actual condition of property losses due to fires. 2. The percentage which takes up property losses due to fires in GDP is on the decrease in the U.S. and Japan, but increase in Korea. In addition, from 1994, it has occupied almost the same rate in Korean ad compared with the U.S. and Japan. 3. When inflation are taken into consideration, property losses due to fires in the U.S. and Japan have decreased, but in Korea, they have increased except for the recent 2 years.

  • Most of the Korea temples of cultural property are wooden buildings and easy combusted. They are often located in mountain area far away from the city. It is very difficult to approach the fight area. The putting out is very difficult in the initial fire time. And for protecting the cultural property in the long-term continuous fire source there are some restrictions in water source and suppression system. In this paper the initial putting out fire due to the forest fire and the protection of cultural property in the long-term continuous fire source were researched. The improved project about fire control facilities of the Korea cultural property was proposed. In the proposed project the facilities using Water mist which can reduce more loss than existing facilities using water are applied. In view of the topographic position the method of eliminating the energy of combustibles and wall for cutting off the heat in the fire control facilities are also mentioned.

  • Currently, the maintenance of fire products at the site of fire-fighting property are presumably carried out by a fireand/or self. On the other hand, of the special fire-fighting property, only 3.4% of them are the target for a comprehensive precision inspection, which is performed by fire protection management firms. Aging fire products for the rest of special fire-fighting property are absolutely beyond any inspection and reliability verification. This is also true with respect to general households. In this report, the current practice of fire products' useful life management at the site of fire-fighting property were studied. For this study, 32 items of fire products were identified. For the sample data, public institutions and 17 cities and provinces were classified into 18 groups, from which 30 sample targets for each group were determined. Of these targets 422 samples were recovered, based on which this study for establishing a useful 'Management Control System of the Fire Products and its Useful Life' was conducted.

  • The present study purposed to assert the necessity of cultural property disaster control through analyzing the fire of the Sungnyemun and to suggest directions for the development of cultural property disaster control in the future. For these purposes, we reviewed literature such as research papers and books on cultural property disaster control, and presented problems in current cultural property disaster control and solutions for the problems through case study of the fire of the Sungnyemun. In a word, the fire of the Sungnyemun is a representative case showing difficulty in disaster prevention activities for wooden cultural properties. Accordingly, we need to recognize the necessity of cultural property disaster control and to prepare measures. For this, first, it is essential to reinforce preventive systems against cultural property disasters. Second, early actions should be taken in consideration of the characteristics of each cultural property. Third, for cultural property disaster control, it is important to maintain cooperative relations among the Cultural Properties Administration, National Emergency Management Agency, and relevant local self.governing bodies. Lastly, standards for cultural property fire protection systems should be tightened by improving related laws, and institutional bases should be intensified through preparing grounds for aggravated punishment for crimes against cultural properties such as arsons.

  • This paper derives the fire risk of buildings in Seoul through the prediction of property damage and the occurrence of fires. This study differs from prior research in that it utilizes variables that include not only a building's characteristics but also its affiliated administrative area as well as the accessibility of nearby fire-fighting facilities. We use Ensemble Voting techniques to merge different machine learning algorithms to predict property damage and fire occurrence, and to extract feature importance to produce fire risk. Fire risk prediction was made on 300 buildings in Seoul utilizing the established model, and it has been derived that with buildings at Level 1 for fire risks, there were a high number of households occupying the building, and the buildings had many factors that could contribute to increasing the size of the fire, including the lack of nearby fire-fighting facilities as well as the far location of the 119 Safety Center. On the other hand, in the case of Level 5 buildings, the number of buildings and businesses is large, but the 119 Safety Center in charge are located closest to the building, which can properly respond to fire.

  • This study was conducted to examine the functionality of the fire retardant treated wood. The hygroscopic property, leaching resistance, metal corrosive efficacy and gas toxicity of retardant treated wood were analyzed. Sodium silicate was penetrated to the wood for making fire retardant treated wood. The subsequent treatment agents such as boric acid, ammonium borate, di-ammonium phosphate were treated after sodium silicate treatment due to fixation. As results for the test, the leaching resist was improved by subsequent treatment. The fire retardant combination such as sodium silicate, boric acid and di-ammonium phosphate showed high hygroscopic property, metal corrosive efficacy. The gas toxicity was also satisfied KS standard.

  • The culture property which is designated with the domestic national treasure and the treasure does not manage protection or preservation as value of culture property of national form. South Gate which is a national treasure class culture property (Soong le) put on the large calamity which is lost with this fire. This thesis intends to understand the aspects of security danger from the research on actual condition of safety supervision department in cultural properties of Korea and propose security plans against disasters to cultural properties through the comparative study with Japan which is advanced nation of culture property prevention of disaster.

  • A fundamental limitation of steel structures is the decrease in their load-bearing capacity at high temperatures in fire situations such that structural members may require some additional treatment for fire resistance. In this regard, this paper evaluates the structural stability of fire-resistant steel, introduced in the late 1999s, through tensile coupon tests and proposes some experimental equations for the yield stress, the elastic modulus, and specific heat. The surface temperature, deflection, and maximum stress of fire-resistant steel H-section columns were calculated using their own mechanical and thermal properties. According to a comparison of mechanical properties between fire-resistant steel and Eurocode 3, the former outperformed the latter, and based on a comparison of structural performance between fire-resistant steel and ordinary structural steel of equivalent mechanical properties at room temperature, the former had greater structural stability than the latter through $900^{\circ}C$.

  • Recently, For the most efficient use of spaceis, high-rise buildings tend to increase. So it is with Korea, too. Besides, today high-rise buildings grows due to fire damage to life and property at large. In this study, Through analysis of domestic and foreign fire case and listen to the high-rise building fire managers, tenants, professionals advice, when the fire from the high-rise building, effective fire suppression tactics should we wish to research ways. In addition, we have used the car gondola was installed outside the fire suppression methods in studying. So that fire-fighting is a fire place can be reached quickly, many casualties and property damage, will be reduced.
