  • The purpose of this study is to find out its effect on changes in the joint angle and the success rate of cardiopulmonary resuscitation by conducting cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when wearing and not wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) targeting 20 paramedics with more than 5 years of experience. The subjects carried out CPR in 30:2 for 4 minutes and collected images were digitized by Kwon3D XP Software Package(Version 4.0) and then data were obtained. Data, which were collected by analyzing the motion when starting in one cycle, when pressing to the maximum, in the final position (relaxed), were analyzed by using SPSS 18.0. In conclusion, during CPR, the angle of the both shoulder joints was not significant (p>.05) and the angle of the right elbow joint was reduced in all positions and was statistically significant (p<.05) and the angle of the left was significantly reduced in the maximum pressure posture and the final position (p>.05). In the case of the trunk, the angle increased statistically significantly at all stages (p<.01, p<.001). Also, during CPR, the average compression rate was significantly reduced after wearing PPE (p<.05) and average hand escape time by cycle increased statistically significantly (p<.05) but chest compression execution rate at the correct depth did not show any significant difference between the two groups (p>05).

  • The purpose of this study was to comparative analysis of tidal volume and airway pressure after one-rescuer BVM, two-rescuer BVM, advanced airway devices with a Bag-valve mask using RespiTrainer. The data were obtained from June 2 to 10 in 2014. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. The results showed that BVM ventilation using the endotracheal intubation produced higher mean tidal volume $497{\pm}78mL$, Two-rescuer ventilation $479{\pm}91mL$ One-rescuer ventilation $386{\pm}59mL$, King LTS-D $365{\pm}05mL$, Laryngeal mask airway (LMA) $351{\pm}35mL$. Peak airway pressure was higher in BVM ventilation using the endotracheal intubation. As a result, the study confirmed that the BVM Ventilation by endotracheal intubation and Two-rescuer BVM ventilation to one third the bag depth squeeze method is appropriate.

  • This study was conducted to verify the role of forest roads in the extinction of large forest fires in Korea. The study area was the forest fire-damaged area of Gangneung City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, in April 2023, which is one of the areas with the highest road density among the major forest fires that have occurred so far. The scope of the forest fire damage area was confirmed through on-site survey, and the intensity of the fire was carried out through Sentinel-2 satellite imagery analysis. After that, the relationship between the damage range and intensity and the forest road was examined. About 59.6 km of roads were built within 50 m from the boundary of the forest fire damage area, which can easily access the entire 149.1 ha of forest fire damaged area. The road density is as high as 168.9 m/ha. All forests that were fragmented by roads were fragmented into 83 places, and all of these forests could be judged to have spread by spotting fire. As a result of analyzing the distribution of damage intensity by distance from the road to see the extent of damage according to the ease of access of fire extinguishing vehicles, it was confirmed that the proportion of areas with low-intensity damage has increased sharply even from 75 m or more away from the road. The results of analyzing the distribution of damage intensity by altitude to see the extent of damage according to the ease of access of fire extinguishing showed that the proportion of areas with low-intensity damage increased as the altitude increased, while the proportion of areas with damage of more than strong intensity decreased as the altitude increased. It was confirmed that there is no data that roads inside or adjacent to forests in the forest fire area of Gangneung City are effective in extinguishing forest fires. These results are contrary to the logic that increasing the road density in forests is effective in extinguishing forest fires. In the case of this fire area in Gangneung City, the road density is 43 times higher than the current road density in Korea claimed by the Korea Forest Service of 3.9 m/ha. This study suggests that roads can be a hindrance to extinguishing forest fires.

  • Fire incidents, which occur every year, cause huge damage to properties and humans. Significant time and costs have been invested in minimizing and responding to such accidents. With the recent advances in the development of spatial information, in the firefighting field, studies have been conducted to effectively bring fires under control using GIS(Geographic Information System). Most of such studies, however, focused on individual analyses of firefighting-related factors, but comprehensive research on the vulnerability factors in fire control activities, a major part of firefighting activity, has yet to be done. This study sought to pinpoint and analyze the factors that obstruct fire controlling, and to gather relevant data and create GIS-based databases. Based on such database, GIS-based overlay analysis was conducted to produce a fire control vulnerability map. The findings of this study will enable a quantitative analysis of firefighting obstruction factors to assist the personnel engaging in firefighting in rational decision-making, such as in formulating a firefighting operation plan for securing golden time.

  • Damage of forest fire should be investigated quickly and accurately for recovery, compensation and prevention of secondary disaster. Using remotely sensed data, burn severity is investigated based on the difference of reflectance or spectral indices before and after forest fire. Recently, the use of high resolution satellite and UAV imagery is increasing, but it is not easy to obtain an image before forest fire that cannot be predicted where and when. This study tried to analyze availability of high-resolution images and supervised classifiers on the burn severity classification. Two supervised classifiers were applied to the KOMPSAT-3A image and the UAV multispectral image acquired after the forest fire. The maximum likelihood (MLH) classifier use absolute value of spectral reflectance and the spectral angle mapper (SAM) classifier use pattern of spectra. As a result, in terms of spatial resolution, the classification accuracy of the UAV image was higher than that of the satellite image. However, both images shown very high classification accuracy, which means that they can be used for classification of burn severity. In terms of the classifier, the maximum likelihood method showed higher classification accuracy than the spectral angle mapper because some classes have similar spectral pattern although they have different absolute reflectance. Therefore, burn severity can be classified using the high resolution multispectral images after the fire, but an appropriate classifier should be selected to get high accuracy.

  • This study analyzed local imbalances in the supply and demand of emergency medical services in Busan using the 119 emergency activity reports of the Busan Fire & Disaster Headquarters. The data for EMS activity reports in 2017 was converted into Jimgyegu units. The spatial distribution of the indicators representing the local imbalance of emergency demand and supply (number of reports, number of reports relative to the population, average coefficient of variation and outlier of on-site arrival time, and number of dispatches outside the jurisdiction) was analyzed using Hotspot analysis of GIS spatial statistics analysis. As a result of the analysis, the hot spot area and the cold spot area where both supply and demand of emergency services are concentrated were clearly distinguished. This means that the supply and demand of emergency services in Busan are locally unbalanced. In particular, there was a difference in the demand and supply of emergency services in the original downtown and its surrounding areas, and in the outskirts of Busan.

  • In this study, we tried to analyze deforestation due to forest fire by using KOMPSAT satellite imagery. For deforestation analysis, unsupervised change detection algorithm is applied to multitemporal images. Through ITPCA (ITerative Principal Component Analysis) of NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) generated from multitemporal satellite images before and after forest fire, changed areas due to deforestation are extracted. In addition, a post-processing method using SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission) data is involved in order to minimize the error of change detection. As a result of the experiment using KOMPSAT-2 and 3 images, it was confirmed that changed areas due to deforestation can be efficiently extracted.
