Recently the requirements of the buildings built with structural steel were increased in terms of structural stabilities and fire resistance at severe fire conditions. To meet the building regulations of fire resistance, a fire design is needed. This is of a prescriptive method and a performance engineering based method. Recently a simple calculation method as one of performance based engineering method is very popular because of its ease for an application in building built with structural steel. But, in Korea the performance based engineering method is not allowed yet. Thus it is needed to make a guideline for the performance based engineering method. The purpose of this study is to establish the limit temperature derived from structural beams made with both a H-section and a H-section filled with concrete at the web and derived the limit temperatures from beams made with H-sections and found out that the limit temperatures from two kinds of specimens depended on the applied loads and the specimens filled with the concrete represented 3 hour fire resistance in the range of 80%, 60%, and 50% of the maximum load.

Cost-effective solutions provided by composite construction are gaining popularity which, in turn, promotes the appearance on the market of new types of composite sections that allow not only to take advantage of the synergy of steel and concrete working together at room temperature, but also to improve their behaviour at high temperatures. When combined with high performance materials, significant load-bearing capacities can be achieved even with reduced cross-sectional dimensions. Steel-reinforced concrete-filled steel tubular (SR-CFST) columns are one of these innovative composite sections, where an open steel profile is embedded into a CFST section. Besides the renowned benefits of these typologies at room temperature, the fire protection offered by the surrounding concrete to the inner steel profile, gives them an enhanced fire performance which delays its loss of mechanical capacity in a fire scenario. The experimental evidence on the fire behaviour of SR-CFST columns is still scarce, particularly when combined with high performance materials. However, it is being much needed for the development of specific design provisions that consider the use of the inner steel profile in CFST columns. In this work, a new experimental program on the thermo-mechanical behaviour of SR-CFST columns is presented to extend the available experimental database. Ten SR-CFST stub columns, with circular and square geometries, combining high strength steel and concrete were tested. It was seen that the circular specimens reached higher failure times than the square columns, with the failure time increasing both when high strength steel was used at the embedded steel profile and high strength concrete was used as infill. Finally, different proposals for the reduction coefficients of high performance materials were assessed in the prediction of the cross-sectional fire resistance of the SR-CFST columns.
Demand for now nondestructive evaluation are growing to detect fatigue crack growth behavior to predict long term performance of materials and structure in aggressive environments especially when they are In non-visible area. Acoustic emission technique is well suited to these problems and has drawn a keen interests because of its dynamic detection ability, extreme sensitivity and location of growing defects. In this study, we analysed acoustic emission signals obtained in fatigue and tensile test of high strength fire resistance steel for frame structure with time-frequency analysis methods. The main frequency range is different in the noise and the fatigue crack propagation. It could be classified that it were also generated by composite fracture mechanics of cleavage, dimple, inclusion separation etc.
Geopolymer concrete (GPC), which is recognised as an environmentally friendly alternative to ordinary Portland cement (OPC) concrete, has been reported to possess high fire resistance. However, very limited research has been conducted to investigate the behaviour of geopolymer concrete-filled steel tubular (GCFST) columns at either ambient or elevated temperatures. This paper presents the compressive test results of a total of 15 circular concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) stub columns, including 5 specimens tested at room temperature, 5 specimens tested at elevated temperatures and the remaining 5 specimens tested for residual strength after exposure to elevated temperatures. The main variables in the test program include: (a) concrete type; (b) concrete strength; and (c) curing condition of geopolymer concrete. The test results demonstrate that GCFST columns have similar ambient temperature behaviour compared with the conventional CFST counterparts. However, GCFST columns exhibit better fire resistance than the conventional CFST columns. Meanwhile, it is found that the GCFST column made with heat cured GPC has lower strength loss than other columns after exposure to elevated temperatures. The research results highlight the possibility of using geopolymer concrete to improve the fire resistance of CFST columns.
The calculation of fire resistance for a composite structural element comprises the calculation of the temperature within its cross-section and of the load bearing capacity, considering the evolution of the steel and concrete mechanical properties, function of the temperature. The paper proposes a method to calculate the bending capacity under ISO fire, for Slim Floor systems using asymmetric steel beams, with a wider lower flange or a narrow upper flange welded onto a half hot-rolled profile. The temperatures in the cross-section are evaluated by means of empirical formulas determined through a parametrical analysis, performed with the special purpose non-linear finite element program SAFIR. Considering these formulas, the bending capacity may be calculated, using an analytical approach to determine the plastic bending moment, for different fire resistance demands. The results obtained with this simplified method are validated through numerical analysis.
When steel tube as a column is filled with concrete, it is common that the load-bearing capacities of CFST(Concrete Filled Steel Tube) column are increased substantially, And the CFST column can obtain a capacity of fire resistance without any additional detail on the surface of the steel tube for fire protection. In order to clarify the behavior of CFST column during fire occurrence, a theoretical study is performed, that is, a thermal analysis is used to find temperature gradient dependent on the time on the steel tube and the infilled concrete. N-M (axial force-moment) interaction curves are summarized under the consideration for time dependent variation. The material properties of concrete and steel in accordance with a temperature variation are referred to the existing general data. Thermal transient analyses are performed by finite element method through ANSYS and then these results are verified by comparing with the existing test results. On the basis of analytical results, load-carrying capacities (N-M interaction curves) are calculated by numerical analysis method.

The main objective of this paper is to study the behaviour of yLRC composite columns at elevated temperatures by experimental test. The effects of load ratios, cross-section size and fire protection for the yLRC columns were investigate d by the test and compared using the heat transfer analysis perfo rmed based on the finite element program ANSYS 10.0 using the ISO834 standard fire curve, following the main guidelines proposed by the EC4 Part 1.2. As heat transfer is the movement of heat by conduction, convection, and radiation, and as temperature inside an object varies by position and time, time. As the steel's thermal conductivity is higher than that of concrete, steel loses its strength rapidly in a high-temperature situation such as a fire. Fire resistance performance of the yLRC composite column under fire conditions was evaluated througheat transfer analysis for parametric study.
Fire resistance steel, grading 490 MPa, had developed by using Thermo-mechanical control process (TMCP) and it has better performance at welding, seismic resistance than those of the ordinary structural steel, But the fire resistance performance is required to verify against the ordinary fire resistance, FR 490. Therefore this study was done to make database of mechanical properties at high temperature and to evaluate the structural stability at high temperature in terms of materials and structural member such as H-section from that of FR 490. The result of this study was that the structural stability of TMCP was lower than that of ordinary FR 490 at the range up about $700^{\circ}C$.
This paper addresses numerically the behavior of steel structures under Fire-after-Earthquake (FAE) loading. The study is focused on a four-storey library building and takes into account the damage that is induced in structural members due to earthquake. The basic objective is the assessment of both the fire-behavior and the fire-resistance of the structure in the case where the structure is damaged due to earthquake. The combined FAE scenarios involve two different stages: during the first stage, the structure is subjected to the ground motion record, while in the second stage the fire occurs. Different time-acceleration records are examined, each scaled to multiple levels of the Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) in order to represent more severe earthquakes with lower probability of occurrence. In order to study in a systematic manner the behavior of the structure for the various FAE scenarios, a two-dimensional beam finite element model is developed, using the non-linear finite element analysis code MSC-MARC. The fire resistance of the structure is determined using rotational limits based on the ductility of structural members that are subjected to fire. These limits are temperature dependent and take into account the level of the structural damage at the end of the earthquake and the effect of geometric initial imperfections of structural members.
