  • It is expected that passenger ship will be large-scale and luxurious according to the needs of modern function. A passenger short of information on the ship, so that they may be injured at the occurrence of fire accident. This study has investigated a case related to fire accident and presented basic data ship to minimize damages and loss at the occurrence of fire accident.

  • In this study, the war has caused a huge scandal at home and abroad caused a fire in the agora, theoretical considerations and issues through case studies to identify and consequent evacuation plan is to undertake. Many a rally in a swarm of fire in the agora can cause a big disaster, focusing on the multi complex building for the evacuation area with a logical review of current and upcoming taller industrial society to cope with future activities, the nature of the fire prevention activities is to ensure the safety of the lives.

  • The main cause of building fire fatalities occur in the combustible material heat, smoke and toxic gases are. Building interior decoration, etc., especially as much of the harmful substances generated during combustion, and, used in domestic architecture wallpaper, ceiling, and other plastics, built-in foam insulation also analyzed recognition of fire hazards approach to test the conkalrorimiteo test, choedaeyeolbangchulryul through, chongbal heat, mass loss rate, generates carbon monoxide gas hazard ratio tests, analysis and evaluation rigid foam index testing the toxicity of hazardous material generated by performing a gas clean up and assess the material test results, the minimum order to provide data to quantify the risk of fire. Ensure fire safety of building materials, composite materials in order to test the various risk factors could be considered organic to the introduction of testing and evaluation is needed urgently.

  • Summary of experiments for the investigation of a fire which caused an upward fire spread for over 12 floors through balconies in a high-rise apartment complex is reported. The experiments include indoor tests to obtain fire properties of vertical PMMA fences and outdoor ones with a full scale model of the balcony. The test results suggest significance of the increase of total flame height by the merging of flames and a cooperative effect of the burning of the PMMA fence and combustibles on the balconies for the generation of a tall flame enough to cause ignition on the upper floors.

Analysis of accidents due to Fires in Korea, 1997-2006 (1997-2006, 한국에서 발생한 화재사고 분석)

  • Fire accidents reported to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) during 1997.2006 in Korea are investigated. A survey of 23523 accidents due to fires is presented. Statistical comparisons based on the type of accidents and the causes of fires are analysed. The results indicated that 27.5% of the total number of fires are residental houses and apartments and 18.0% were motor vehicles. Electricity was classified to be the highest cause of fire ignition sourses and smoking was the second source of ignition.

  • In general, fire accidents in tunnels are sufficiently preventable, but the damage is very large. Therefore, the number of highway traffic accidents is high in spring when spring fatigue occurs and the traffic volume for maple travel increases. In particular, when analyzing the cause of death of people killed in fire accidents in tunnels, it is analyzed that most of them are suffocated by smoke. Therefore, in this study, it can be said that it is meaningful to make a social contribution to reduce the number of traffic accident deaths by establishing an efficient fire suppression system for fire accidents in tunnels.

Study on the Concept of Monarch-fire(君火) and Ministerial-fire(相火) in Zhu Dan-Xi(朱丹溪)'s Ministerial-fire Theory(相火論) (주단계(朱丹溪) 상화론(相火論)의 군화(君火) 상화(相火)의 개념에 대한 고찰)

  • Objectives : In ministerial-fire theory(相火論) of Zhu Dan-Xi(朱丹溪), the meanings of monarch-fire(君火) and ministerial-fire(相火) described in papers published nowadays are not the same. Therefore, it is necessary to rebuild a clear concept. Methods : To understand the relationships among 'heaven(天)'-'human(人)' and 'name(名)'-'position(位)', the core concept of the ministerial-fire theory(相火論) of Zhu Dan-Xi(朱丹溪), I examined the relationships between 'heaven(天)' and 'human(人)' in Neo-Confucianism(性理學) of Song(宋) Dynasty and reviewed the notes of Wang Bing(王冰) which were quoted by Zhu Dan-Xi(朱丹溪) to set the concept of monarch-fire(君火) and ministerial-fire(相火). I studied relevant texts. Results : In ministerial-fire theory(相火論) of Zhu Dan-Xi(朱丹溪), monarch-fire(君火) is perceived as being from greed(人欲) that can cause hyperactivity(妄動) of ministerial-fire(相火), whereas ministerial-fire(相火) is perceived as being able to control monarch-fire(君火) by following the orders from heaven. This point of view is different from the past which recognized monarch-fire (君火) as the owner and ministerial-fire(相火) as the servant. Conclusions : Zhu Dan-Xi(朱丹溪) received the ideological impact of Neo-Confucianism, and accepted the notes of Wang Bing, recognized monarch-fire(君火) as 'name(名)' and ministerial-fire(相火) as 'position(位)', so he voiced the ministerial-fire theory(相火論) that perceived monarch-fire(君火) as fire(火) of the five processes(五行) of human body that came from greed, ministerial-fire(相火) as being in a position to hear the order from the 'heaven(天)' to control monarch-fire(君火). But the concept of ministerial-fire(相火) which he set connoted a confusing meaning of 'nature(性)' and 'way(道)' of Neo-Confucianism. In the later process to solve the problem, life-gate theory(命門學說) was raised, and many researchers had tried to remove the meaning of hyperactivity from the ministerial-fire(相火).

  • The pipes and cables buried below ground which may have helped to improved city landscapes is becoming direct and indirect cause for various disaster in Korea due to potential possibility of fire. Various types of fire in utility tunnels should be analysed in order to improve its fire safety level, therefore mail problems and shortcomings are checked out as a result of this analysis. By performing both tunnel fire risk analysis and fire safety level comparison in advanced countries, effective measure and approach to required standardization may be presented to bath tunnel structure and its containing cables in order to diminished up to a desirable rate in a near future.

A Study on the Heat Release Characteristic of Household Items using LSC(Large Scale Cone Calorimeter) (LSC를 이용한 생활용품의 발열량 특성에 관한 연구)

  • For this study, fire tests were performed targeting household items (Sofa, Drawer, Refrigerator, Washing machine) using a large cone calorimeter (Large Scale Cone Calorimeter, LSC). The data were obtained focusing on the fire characteristic of the data when the actual fire occurs. The study results showed the following mean HRR of the household items; drawer 2843 KW, sofa 2939 KW, washing machine 719 KW, refrigerator 2907 KW, and THR is found in sofa 2202 MJ, drawer 1559 MJ, refrigerator 1193 MJ, washing machine 627 MJ. From the result, it could be found that the sofa can cause significant heat generation when the fire occurs, and the flashover tendency was found relatively high in compartment fire. In addition, a weight of the four our household items was reduced sharply in a similar time (20min before and after) degree after ignition. The drawer and sofa which has a high heat release can be considered to speed up the fire spread as their weight decrease rapidly and showed relatively weak to the fire compared to the refrigerator and washing machine.

A Study on the Fire Risk of the Kimchi Refrigerator through Case Analysis of Fire Accidents (사례 분석을 통한 김치냉장고의 화재 위험성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we describe fire risk of Kimchi refrigerator. The Kimchi refrigerator has been widely spread and used starting from the first half of 2000 and recently fire accidents caused by the Kimchi refrigerator emerged as social concern. In particular, in products of a specific manufacturer, it is not an environmental factor, but a characteristic that the fire is caused due to a defect of the product itself is shown. These features are judged to be formed by unique defects regardless of external factor by forming electrically arc mark in the relay element. In this paper, we analyzed the cause of the fire occurring in the Kimchi refrigerator and finally confirmed the characteristic that the fire occurred mainly in the relay element due to insufficient capacity of the relay element. Therefore, when a fire occurs in a product of the same maker as the Kimchi refrigerator mentioned in this paper, it is always judged that the inspection of the relay element should be carried out.
