  • This paper proposes new preprocessing algorithm to extract minutiae in the process of fingerprint recognition. Fingerprint images quality enhancement is a topic phase to ensure good performance in a topic phase to ensure good performance in a Automatic Fingerprint Identification System(AFIS) based on minutiae matching. This paper proposes an algorithm to improve fingerprint image preprocessing to extract minutiae accurately based on directional filter. We improved the suitability of low quality fingerprint images to better suit fingerprint recognition by using valid ridge vector and ridge probability of fingerprint images. With the proposed fingerprint improvement algorithm, noise is removed and presumed ridges are more clearly ascertained. The algorithm is based on five step: computation of effective ridge vector, computation of ridge probability, noise reduction, ridge emphasis, and orientation compensation and frequency estimation. The performance of the proposed approach has been evaluated on two set of images: the first one is self collected using a capacitive semiconductor sensor and second one is DB3 database from Fingerprint Verification Competition (FVC).

  • The purpose of this paper is to measure the level of difficulty of fingerprint database based on sample quality. This paper proposes distribution of a sample quality analyzer and a difference of sample quality analyzer to measure the level of difficulty. Experimental results demonstrate that there are stronger correlation between matching performance and level of difficulty based on difference of sample quality than other measure. Especially, level of difficulty based on OQ Block of MPQ co-occurrence matrix shows highest correlation with matching performance, and moreover it can predict the matching performance of unknown databases.

  • Fingerprint classification plays a role of reduction of precise joining time and improvement of the accuracy in a large volume of database. Patterns of fingerprint are classified as 5 patterns : left loop, right loop, arch, whorl, and tented arch by numbers and the location of core point and delta point. The existing fingerprint classification is useful in a captured fingerprint image of core point and delta point using paper and ink. However, this system is unapplicable in modern Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) because of problems such as size of input and way of input. To solve the problem, this study is to suggest the way of being able to improve accuracy of fingerprint by fingerprint classification based on the entropy of ridges using fingerprint captured mage of core point and prove this through the experiment.

  • Henry System which is a traditional fingerprint classification model is difficult to apply to a modem Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). To tackle this problem, this study is to apply algorithm for an An Ensemble Fingerprint Classroom System using changes of gradient of ridge in order to improve precise joining speed of a large volume of database. The existing classification system, Henry System, is useful in a captured fingerprint image of core point and delta point using paper and ink. However, the Henry System is unapplicable in modem Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) because of problems such as size of input sensor and way of input. This study is to suggest an Ensemble Fingerprint Classroom System which can classify 5 basic patterns of Henry System in uncaptured delta image using changes of gradient of ridge. The proposed fingerprint classification technique will make an improvement of precise joining speed by reducing data volume.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the applicability of the odor source tracking using wind field and fingerprint as a solution tool. First of all, CALMET and HYSPLIT modeling system, and database of odor discharge companies were utilized to track odor from industrial complexes. Secondly, industrial odor fingerprint was made by listing on the 19 domestic industries, and compared with foreign data to assess the representative, and thus the similarity was 86.7%. On the modeling experiment, Sihwa industrial complex did not show any difference because the matching rates of day and night were 49.5% and 50.0%, respectively. However, the Banwol and Sihwa industrial complexes did show some differences due to odor facility density. Separately, in this study, odor samples were obtained from 10 odor discharging companies, located in the Sihwa and Banwol industrial complexes, They were compared with the results of odor tracking modeling. The matched companies were 4 of 10 by three cases of tracking, while the fingerprint and industry of odor monitoring networks and companies matched each other. Therefore, this study confirmed the approach applicability of source tracking system using the fingerprint.

  • In this paper, we proposed an effective method for detecting fingerprint ridge direction based on the run-length and chain codes. First, a fingerprint image is normalized, and it is thresholded to obtain binary image with foreground and background regions. The foreground regions is composed of fingerprint ridges, and the ridges is encoded with the run-length and chain codes. To detect directional information, the boundary of ridge codes is traced, and curvature is calculated at ecah point of boundary. And the detected direction value is smoothed with appropriate window locally. The proposed method is applied to NIST and FVC2002 fingerprint database to evaluate performance. By the experimental results, the proposed method can be used to obtain ridge direction value in fingerprint image.

  • The construction of a fingerprint database is important to evaluate the performance of an automatic fingerprint recognition system. Due to the cost of collecting fingerprints, there are only few benchmark databases available. Since it is hard to evaluate how robust the system is in various environments with the databases, this paper proposes a novel method that generates fingerprint images automatically from only a few training samples by using the genetic algorithm. Fingerprints generated by the proposed method include similar characteristics of those collected from the corresponding real environment. The proposed method has been verified by comparing with real fingerprint images, showing the usefulness of the method.

  • Fast IDentity Online(FIDO) supports biometric authentications in an online environment without transmitting biometric templates over the network. For a given FIDO client, the "Fuzzy Vault" securely stores biometric templates, houses additional biometric templates, and unlocks private keys via biometrics. The Fuzzy Vault has been extensively researched and some vulnerabilities have been discovered, such as brute force, correlation, and key inversions attacks. In this paper, we propose a simple fingerprint Fuzzy Vault for FIDO clients. By using the FIDO feature, a simple minutiae alignment, and point-to-point matching, our Fuzzy Vault provides a secure algorithm to combat a variety of attacks, such as brute force, correlation, and key inversions. Using a case study, we verified our Fuzzy Vault by using a publicly available fingerprint database. The results of our experiments show that the Genuine Acceptance Rate and the False Acceptance Rate range from 48.89% to 80% and from 0.02% to 0%, respectively. In addition, our Fuzzy Vault, compared to existing similar technologies, needed fewer attempts.

  • As smartphones become more common, anybody can take pictures and record videos easily nowadays. Video files taken from smartphones can be used as important clues and evidence. While you analyze video files taken from smartphones, there are some occasions where you need to prove that a video file was recorded by a specific smartphone. To do this, you can utilize various fingerprint techniques mentioned in existing research. But you might face the situation where you have to strengthen the result of fingerprinting or fingerprint technique can't be used. Therefore forensic investigation of the smartphone must be done before fingerprinting and the database of metadata of video files should be established. The artifacts in a smartphone after video recording and the database mentioned above are discussed in this paper.

  • In this paper, we present an effective method and a system for the music summarization which automatically extract the chorus portion of a piece of music. A music summary technology is very useful for browsing a song or generating a sample music for an online music service. To develop the solution, conventional automatic music summarization methods use a 2-dimensional similarity matrix, statistical models, or clustering techniques. But our proposed method extracts the music summary by calculating BER(Bit Error Rate) between audio fingerprint blocks which are extracted from a song. But we could directly use an enormous audio fingerprint database which was already saved for a music retrieval solution. This shows the possibility of developing a various of new algorithms and solutions using the audio fingerprint database. In addition, experiments show that the proposed method captures the chorus of a song more effectively than a conventional method.
