  • A visually adaptive quantization method of DCT-based images based on Human Visual System(HVS) is proposed. This approach uses the spatial masking in HVS characteristics to obtain higher compression ratio with relatively small degradation in the image quality. HVS is nonsensitive to an edge area, so a high complexity area is quantized coarsely in contrast to fine quantization of the low complexity area. The complexity of an area is estimated by the variance of DCT coefficients of the image. Experimental results demonstrate the performance of the proposed method and the resulting images show little difference from the original image in the subjective perception.

  • The paper is on the record of radiography the patients with SIEMENS ANGIOSTAR/POLYTRON S PLUS angiosystem with DSA system in the Chonbuk National University Hospital from October 1993 to June 1994. The results are as follow : 1. Among the total No, 836 case of utilization, angiography are 316(37.8 %), interventional radiography are 256(34.2 %), and dacryocystography and sialography are 168(20/1 %). Therefore non-angiogrlphy procedure are incerasing. 2. The aomunt of contrast material used are half as much as conventional angiovascular system. 3. The amount of film consumed are $10{\sim}15%$ of that of conventional angio vascular system and reduction of procedure time are $40{\sim}50%$. 4. Admitting that dignostic utility is in the utilization by examination region, there should be technological study which deal with fine vessel and motion artifact problem.

  • Recently high dynamic range imaging technique is hot issue in computer graphic area. We present a progressive tone mapping algorithm, which is based on weighted least squares optimization framework. Our approach combines weighted leastsquaresfiltering with iCAM06, for showing more perceptual high dynamic range images in conventional display, while avoiding visual halo artifacts. We decompose high dynamic range image into base layer and detail layer. The base layer has large scale variation, it is obtained by using weighted least squares filtering, and then the base layer incorporates iCAM06 model. Then, adaptive compression on the base layer according to human visual system. Only the base layer reduces contrast, and preserving detail. The resultshows more perceptual color appearance and preserve fine detail, while avoiding common artifacts.

  • The quality of the print can be specified through the quality of the coloring, the reproduction of fine structures and the range of tone values. Also, package printed quality are controlled by this points. In this paper, densitometry method was used for printed quality. By densitometry we can get the print density and the parameters of each conditions that characterize halftone printing, such as dot gain and relative printing contrast. Also, we have proposed the optimizes range of the parameters such as density, dot gain etc. to the package printed printability control.

  • Moyamoya disease is a unique cerebrovascular disorder characterized by idiopathic progressive stenosis at the terminal portion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) and fine vascular network. The aim of this review is to present the clinical application of quantitative digital subtraction angiography (QDSA) in pediatric moyamoya disease. Using conventional angiographic data and postprocessing software, QDSA provides time-contrast intensity curves and then displays the peak time ($T_{max}$) and area under the curve (AUC). These parameters of QDSA can be used as surrogate markers for the hemodynamic evaluation of disease severity and quantification of postoperative neovascularization in moyamoya disease.

  • Amorphous carbon nitride films deposited on Si(001) substrates by a plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique using CH$_4$and $N_2$as reaction gases were thermally annealed at various temperatures under$ N_2$atmosphere, then their physical properties were investigated particularly as a function of annealing temperature. Above $600^{\circ}C$ a small amount of crystalline $\beta$-$C_3$$N_4$ phase evolves, while the film surface becomes very rough due to agglomeration of fine grains on the surface. As the annealing temperature increases, both the hardness and the $sp^3$ bonding nature are enhanced. In contrast to our expectation, higher annealing temperature results in a relatively higher friction mainly due to big increase in roughness at that temperature.

  • Washboarding is a phenomenon in which a wavy shape occurs periodically and naturally on an unpaved road made of soil or gravel. This phenomenon causes high-frequency vibration of the traffic traveling on the road because of the height difference of the wave pattern, which may lead to vehicle failure. Consequently, associated research is needed concerning vehicle safety. Therefore, in this study, a numerical simulation was conducted using the discrete element method, which is often used for powder simulation. In contrast to previous studies, the results of this study demonstrate that washboarding can occur even in an environment of 1.5 m/s or less. However, the amount of washboarding is minimal. The study revealed that washboarding develops over time, such that sufficient development time is required before measurements are taken.

  • Morphology of polyester fiber was physically modified by solvent treatment. PET fiber was treated with N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at 100, 120, $140^{circ}C$ for 10 minutes without tension. The structural changes in the morphology of DMF-induced modified PET fiber were FTIR and SEM analysis. Also dyeing behavior of DMF-treated polyester fibers with various disperse dyes was studied to detect changes of amorphous area in fine structure. DMF treatment resulted in increases in total void content, degree of crystallinity, trans isomer content, chain folding, segmental mobility and molecular packing, but it resulted in decreases in amorphous orientation, intermolecular forces and individual void size through longitudinal shrinkage, lateral welling and removal of oligomers. Void-size distribution could be estimated from the dye uptake with various sizes of disperse dyes. In contrast to the large increases in dye uptake with small dye molecules, there is no and little dye uptake with the bulkiest dye, which means that void size is bigger or smaller than the volume of each dye. Diffusion rates of dye molecules showed increases. This dyeing study revealed that the disperse dyeing is very effective method for characterizing the internal morphology of polyester fiber.

  • In this paper, we present a new interpolation scheme for image enhancement using fuzzy inference. In general, interpolation techniques are based on linear operators which are essentially lowpass filters, hence, they tend to blur fine details in the original image. In our approach, the operator itself balances the strength of its sharpening and noise suppressing components according to the Properties of the input image data.

  • A new test method has been developed for a quantitative evaluation of macro-stickies in recycled pulps. The method uses a fine slot screen to separate a sticky particles form fiber in the pulp samples. The obtained sticky particles were spread on filter paper and covered with silicon carbide powder in order to make the stickies area with sufficient contrast between stickies and background. The stickies are then counted by a scanner-based image analysis system. The validity of this evaluation method of stickies of KOCC, ONP and white ledger wastepaper recycling plants respectively. It is shown that this method can be applied for a quantitative determination of stickies content in various recycled pulp samples. With this testing method, reproducible and reliable data were obtained for the actual mill pulp samples.
