  • Recently, it is increased on the concern for the reuse of waste concrete because of the shortage of natural aggregate and the increase of waste concrete. And recycled coarse aggregate is used variously, but the existing wet method producted recycled fine aggregate has problems like the high price facilities, the long time progress of the work and recycled fine aggregate of poor. The aim of this study is to investigate the possibility of the method of dry producted high qualities recycled fine aggregate. The results of this study have shown that the possibility of the method of dry is certificated as the qualities of recycled fine aggregate satisfied the KS and the compressive strength of mortar was similar to plain.

  • Aggregate as the component of High Flowing Concrete has much influence on the properties of High Flowing Concrete according to the quality and condition because the aggregate occupy a lot of concrete volume. The shape and size of aggregate affect a lot spatial passibility and fillingability. The segregation is easy to occur when the rate of Fine aggregate is high so that Fluidity is much affected by aggregate factor. In this study, therefore, we try to understand the various fluidity according to the fine aggregate of standard grade rang, the size of Coarse aggregate and the rate of fine aggregate to confirm the manufacturing possibility of High Flowing Concrete by examination on the influence of fresh state of high flowing concrete such as flowability, reinforcement passibility, fillingability, segregation resistance.

  • Concrete containing styrene-butadiene latex is widely used, nowadays, as a protective system for bridge. Latex modification mortar have taken advantage of latex modification concrete advantage that is used in existing, Also, when repair, protection and sticking performance of concrete overlay waterproof agent were known as that are good. Replace and experimented from fine aggregate to recycled aggregate to secure economic performance than existing latex modification concrete. Recycled fine aggregate has low quality because it contains large amount of old mortar. So, its usage is limited to a lower value-add, such as the roadbed material etc. This study is purposed to improve the performance of mortar made of recycled fine aggregate. For this, recycled aggregate mortar was produced with latex, and fluidity, strength were examined. Test result indicate that mortar using recycled fine aggregate is higher compressive and flexural strength than mortar using river sand.

  • Experimental tests on the high strength self-compacting concrete with light-weight fine aggregate and light-weight coarse aggregate(LHSSC) were performed with slump-flow, reaching time to the slump-flow of 500mm, V-funnel dropping time and U-box difference level and compressive strength. LHSCC with light-weight fine aggregate of 75% and light-weight coarse aggregate of 100% was only satisfied with the property conditions of second self-compacting concrete(SCC), like as flowability, resistance to segregation and filling ability. The 28-day compressive strength of LHSCC indicated above 300kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in all concrete mixtures, and it was increased to increase the replacement ratio of light-weight fine aggregate or to decrease the replacement ratio of light-weight coarse aggregate. Therefore, for satisfying the properties of fresh SCC and hardened concrete with above 350kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$, it would expected that the replacement ratio of light-weight fine aggregate and light-weight coarse aggregate will be determined with 50~75% and 25~50%, respectively.

  • In ultra high strength concrete, when electric arc furnace oxidizing slag is substituted for sea sand as fine aggregate, compressive strength was improved about 15 MPa. To figure out the cause of the improvement in compressive strength, this study considered the dissolution characteristics of Ca component in fine aggregate and examined the microstructure, porosity, microhardness, and Ca/Si mole ratio on the interface of fine aggregate and paste. And to examine the mechanism of strength improvement resulted from the shape of fine aggregate, this study measured the surface roughness of fine aggregate with AFM. According to the result of this experiment, the mechanisms of strength improvement in ultra high strength concrete resulted from the use of electric arc furnace oxidizing slag as fine aggregate can be divided into chemical and physical mechanisms. In the chemical mechanism, the soluble Ca component contained in electric arc furnace oxidizing slag is dissolved and forms a hydrate between fine aggregate and paste to improve the interlocking strength of fine aggregate-paste. Also, it makes the microstructure around the fine aggregate. And in the physical mechanism, electric arc furnace oxidizing slag has a twice greater surface roughness than sea sand, so the interlocking strength between fine aggregate and paste increases, which contributes to the development of compressive strength.

  • This study investigates the effect of crushed fine aggregate and chemical admixture (durability improvement agent, named DIA) on blast furnace slag-based brick. The control brick was made with recycled fine aggregate of 100% and, no cement was used. Test results showed that all specimens developed similar strength, except for the specimen without partial replacement of crushed fine aggregate at 3 days. However, it is interesting to note that this specimen without crushed fine aggregate resulted in the highest strength at 7 days. In addition, the DIA had a major effect on the absorption ratio of brick specimens. For the brick specimens with partial replacement of crushed fine aggregate with 10%, the addition of DIA with only 1% was enough to satisfy the code regulated by KS F 4004.

  • The Natural aggregate will be faced with serious shortage problem within 10 years due to the great amount of consumption in domestic. In order to reserve our natural resources, the construction waste has to be reused as an alternative material. Especially, It is more imminent to find alternative material in case of fine aggregate. This paper presents and experimental results on the fundamental property of concrete using recycled fine aggregate. As a result, it was found that the property of concrete using recycled fine aggregate substituted for 25% of a natural sand was similar in that of crushed fine aggregate.

  • This study investigates the effect of partial replacement with cement on the properties of blast furnace slag-based mortar. Recycled fine aggregate with various contents was used to activate the hydration of blast furnace slag in the mortar and compared its effect on strength development. Results showed that increasing cement and recycled fine aggregate increased the strength of mortar specimens. However, this study found that the mortar made with partial replacement of river sand with recycled fine aggregate of 20% developed a similar strength to the strength that cement with 10% can achieved.

  • This research study focuses on utilizing sandstone which is overburden waste rock in coal mines to use in concrete as a replacement of fine aggregate. Physical properties of sandstone like water absorption, moisture content, fineness modulus etc., were found to be similar to conventional fine aggregate. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis was carried out for analysing elemental composition of sandstone. There was no sulphur content in sandstone which is a good sign to carry the replacement. Fine aggregate was replaced with sandstone at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% by volume and moulds of concrete cubes and cylinders were prepared. Compressive strength of concrete cubes was tested after 3, 7 and 28 days and split tensile & flexural strength was determined after 28 days. The strength was found to be increasing marginally with increase in sandstone content. Fine aggregate that was replaced by 100% sandstone gave highest strength among all the replacements for the compressive, split tensile and flexural strengths. Though increase in strength was marginal, still sandstone can be an effective replacement for sand in order to save the natural resource and utilize the waste sandstone.
