Polyphase Representation of the Relationships Among Fullband, Subband, and Block Adaptive Filters

  • In hands-free telephone systems, the received speech signal is fed back to the microphone and constitutes the so-called echo. To cancel the effect of this time-varying echo path, it is necessary to device an adaptive filter between the receiving and the transmitting ends. For a typical FIR realization, the length of the fullband adaptive filter results in high computational complexity and low convergence rate. Consequently, subband adaptive filtering schemes have been proposed to improve the performance. In this work, we use deterministic approach to analyze the relationship between fullband and subband adaptive filtering structures. With block adaptive filtering structure as an intermediate stage, the analysis is divided into two parts. First, to avoid aliasing, it is found that the matrix of block adaptive filters is in the form of pseudocirculant, and the elements of this matrix are the polyphase components of the fullband adaptive filter. Second, to transmit the near-end voice signal faithfully, the analysis and the synthesis filter banks in the subband adaptive filtering structure must form a perfect reconstruction pair. Using polyphase representation, the relationship between the block and the subband adaptive filters is derived.

A Varactor-Tuned RF Tunable Bandpass Filter with Improved Passband Flatness

  • A RF tunable bandpass filter using dielectric resonators and varactor diodes is redesigned to improve the passband flatness. Since the tunable liters are generally of narrow bandwidth and the Q value of the varactor diode is usually very low, the passband flatness is strongly deteriorated by sizeable distortion loss. To remedy this problem, we construct modified Chebyshev type filter by use of network synthesis techniques. The key of modified Chebyshev type filter is the rearrangement of the passband poles to improve the passband flatness. To maintain the constant passband bandwidth, design techniques of input/output stage and coupling windows are also applied. Experimental results show that the passband flatness can be improved by purposed method without any additional RF amplitude equalizer.

  • For shape invariant recognitin of korean characters iwth noise, an optical wavelet SDF filter is proposed To preserve the features of a reference image and inimize effects of a random noise in the inpt image wavelet transformed images with different dialation parameters are used. And to adapt to divese variations in the combinatorial form, eCP-SDF filter synthesis algorithm is used. The proposed optical wavelet SDF filter is the type of the matched filter so that it can use the structure of 4f optical correlation system. The computer simulation results show that the proposed filter is useful in the noisy input.

  • We described a miniaturization of microstrip filters by the exact synthesis. With the exact synthesis, we can design completely new circuits physically realizable. The complex procedure for the network synthesis could be reduced by using computer software. It is a new design procedure ensuring the creation of optimum networks which have minimum number of elements. The exact synthesis gives more possibilities to make wideband filters which require bandwidth of 50~100 %. S-plane Bandpass prototypes are made with non-redundant filter synthesis technique that has transmission zero locations at required frequencies. Because this method uses the transmission lines which lengths are ${\lambda}$/4 at the stopband center frequency, we can reduce the size of the filter dramatically.

  • In this paper, a synthesis method for the desired scattering pattern is presented when illuminating by TE-polarized and TM-polarized plane waves to arbitrary dielectric material. It is considered that the one-dimensional dielectric media are inhomogeneously distributed with continuously varying dielectric constants. Accordingly the desired patterns and the corresponding source distributions are inversely transformed by the proposed algorithm which are based on the one-dimensional inverse scattering problem. Some bandstop spatial filter are illustrated for applications.

  • Liquid crystal display (LCD) devices contain a colour filter which can visualise colour images by transmitting or absorbing light. Colour properties of LCD mainly depend on colour materials such as pigments and polymeric binders. In this paper, colour properties were studied to improve colour quality of LCD. Generally, the colour properties can be classified into three categories which are colour purity, brightness and contrast ratio. For this study, photo resists were prepared by treatment of pigments and synthesis of polymeric binder. The treated pigments were dispersed and formulated with additives for preparing a photo resist that could be used for manufacturing colour filters. As a result of what we studied, type, mixture ratio and concentration of pigments were very important to improve colour purity of LCD device.

  • This paper provides the coding performance comparisons of depth map resolution in 3D video system. In multiview plus depth map system, depth map is used for synthesis view rendering, and affects to synthesis views quality. In the paper, we show the experimental results as depth map resolution in 3D video system, and show performance variation as dilation filter.

  • This paper described the miniaturization of microstrip bandpss filter in UHF using S-plane Prototype. Modern microwave receiver system requires smaller size and better filter performance. The design of filters using bandpass S-plane prototype is made to satisfy these requirements. Bandpass S-plane prototypes are made by exact-synthesis technique using transmission zero locations at wanted frequency bandwidth, and the calculation of prototype values was performed by computer.

  • Prussian blue (PB) is well known for its excellent $Cs^+$ ions adsorption capacity. Due to the high dispersibility of PB in aqueous phase, composite materials imbedding PB in supporting materials have been introduced as a solution. However, building PB particles inside porous supporting materials is still difficult, as PB particles are not fully formed and elute out to water. In this study, we suggest layer-by-layer (LBL) assembly to provide better immobilization of PB on supporting materials of poly vinyl alcohol sponge (PVA) and cellulose filter (CF). Three different PB attachment methods, ex-situ/in-situ/LBL assembly, were evaluated using PB leaching test as well as $Cs^+$ adsorption test. Changes of surface functionality and morphology during PB composite preparation protocols were monitored through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The results indicate that LBL assembly led to better PB attachment on supporting materials, bringing less eluting PB particles in aqueous phase compared to other synthesis methodologies, such as ex-situ and in-situ synthesis. By enhancing the stability of the adsorbent, adsorption capacity of PVA-PB with LBL improved nine times and that of CF-PB improved over 20 times. Therefore, the results suggest that LBL assembly offers a better orientation for growing PB particles on porous supporting materials.

Design of a Microwave Distributed Amplifier Considering Capacitance Absorption Capability (정전용량 흡수 능력을 고려한 마이크로파 분포증폭기 설계)

  • In this paper, a distributed amplifier is designed using distributed network synthesis that provides the optimum absorption capability of a capacitance. Transfer functions of filters, which consist of the amplifier, are synthesized by a low-pass Chebyshev approximation. Capacitances that a filter network can absorb are calculated as a function of its minimum insertion loss(MIL) and ripple. Active devices in a distributed amplifier are modeled as equivalent circuits by using their S-parameters, and their equivalent capacitances are absorbed into filter structures by properly adjusting the MIL and ripple of a transfer function. As an application example, a distributed amplifier with the gain of about 12.5dB is designed that operates over the frequency range between 0.1 and 7.5GHz. Experimental results prove that distributed network synthesis, which considers capacitance absorption capability, is useful to the design of distributed amplifiers.
