Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease caused by low bone mass and the decrease of bone density in the microstructure of trabecular bone. Drug therapy(PTH Parathyroid hormone) may increase the trabecular thickness and thus bone strength. Vertebroplasty is a minimally invasive surgery foy the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture. This Procedure includes Puncturing vertebrae and filling with Polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA). Although altering recommended monomer-to-Powder ratio affects material properties of bone cement, clinicians commonly alter the mixture ratio to decrease viscosity and increase the working time. The Purposes of this study were to analyze the effect of 4he monomer-to-powder ratio on the mechanical characteristics of trabecular. In this paper, the finite element model of human vertebral trabecualr bone was developed by modified Voronoi diagram, to analyze the relative effect of hormone therapy and vertebroplasty at the treatment of osteoporotic vertebrae. Trabeuclar bone models for vertebroplasty with varied monomer-to-Powder ratio(0.40∼1.07 ㎖/g) were analyzed. Effective modulus and strength of bone cement-treated models were approximately 60% of those of intact models and these are almost twice the values of hormone-treated models. The bone cement models with the ratio of 0.53㎖/g have the maximum modulus and strength. For the ratio of 1.07㎖/g, the modulus and strength were minimum(42% and 49% respectively) but these were greater than those for drug therapy. This study shows that bone cement treatment is more effective than drug therapy. It is found that in vertebroplasty, using a monomer-to-powder ratio different from that recommended by manufacturer nay significantly not only reduce the cement's material Properties but also deteriorate the mechanical characteristics of osteoporotic vertebrae.

This study was performed to determine the physical properties of rice hull and straw which could be used for an optimum design and operation of the handling facilities for these rice crop by-products. The properties measured were kinetic friction coefficient , bulk density, and dynamic and static angle of repose. Rice hulls with moisture content of 13% and 21% were used throughout the test while rice straws of 10% and 16% moisture were chopped into 10mm length and used for the test. Friction coefficient was calculated from the horizontal traction forces measurement when a container holding the mass of rice hull and straw was pulled over mild steel. PVC, stainless steel, and galvanized steel surface by a universal testing machine. Bulk density was measured by an apparatus consisting of filling fundel and a receiving vessel. Dynamic angle of repose which is the angle at which the material will stand when piled was calculated from the photos of bulk samples after they were flowed by gravity and accumulated on a circular surface. Static angle of repose which is the angle between the horizontal and the sloping side of the material left in the container when discharging was also measured in the similar way. Results and conclusions from this study are summarized as follows . 1. Kinetic friction coefficient of both rice hull and straw were in the range of 0.26 -0.52 and increased with the moisture content. The magnitude of friction increased in the order of galvanized steel, stainless steel, PVC ,and mild steel. 2. Bulk densities of rice hull decreased while those of rice straw increased with moisture content increase . Average bulk densities of rice hull and straw were 96.8 and 74.7kg/㎥, respectively. 3. Average dynamic angle of repose for rice straw was 32.6$^{\circ}$ and those for 13% and 21% moisture rice hull were 38.9$^{\circ}$ and 44.9$^{\circ}$ , respectively. 4. Static angles of repose for both rice hull and straw showed increase with the moisture content. The values were 75.2\ulcorner and 80.2$^{\circ}$ for 13% and 21% moisture rice hull, respectively. Rice straws having 10% and 16% moisture content showed 87.3% and 89.2$^{\circ}$ static angle of repose, respectively.

In this research, we tried to investigate the influence of concrete on cracks after applying to the actual construction site using the TPS construction method which can be easily charged by the mechanical injection method. To summarize the results, the following It is as follows. First, in the case of ultrasonic velocity, it can be seen that the ultrasonic wave passes rapidly at an average of about 36 mm / sec as compared with the syringe method when using the TPS method, and in the case of the injection depth, the syringe method In the case of TPS construction method, it showed an excellent tendency that 100% of the water retentive material was charged with all the formulations under a strong injection pressure. In the case of compressive strength, it was shown that the average was increased by 16.8% at the time of using the TPS construction method, and it was found to be structurally superior. Taken together, it is possible to confirm the behavior of the crack repairing agent by improving the quality by improving the strength and confirming the window installation by filling the injection material into the closed space at the crack site when using the TPS method compared with the syringe method. In addition, it is expected that construction time will be improved by shortening the construction period of about 5 days for the TPS construction method construction section 532 m, and usability will be expanded by the crack repair method of concrete structure.
As a result of population growth and economic growth, household and industrial wastes continue to rapidly increase every year. Especially, sewage sludge produced at final stage is increasing with the constant construction and putting in good order of the sewage plant. In addition to the government's prohibition for filling up the sludge, it became more and more difficult to discharge wastes to the sea as London Dumping Convention '96 came into effect. And sewage sludge and the livestock wastes are expected to be thoroughly prohibited from discharging to the sea from 2012. So we need desperately economical and useful alternatives to compact and reuse these wastes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the utilization of solidified sludge-soil mixture as an enhancement and covering material. To determine the proper mixed ratio of solidified sludge, this study conducted basic physical properties tests, compaction tests, uniaxial compression tests, and permeability test. It was found that the higher the ratio of solidified sludge, the lower the coefficient of permeability. Upon the results of particle size distribution, the mixed ratio of solidified sludge that meet the enhancement material condition was 59% or lower for SP granite soil and 48% or lower for SM granite soil respectively.
In the case of using the soil materials created by cutting in-situ ground directly without adjusting particle size, it is recommendable to seek the compaction property or material constant required for filling design or density control through indoor test, and many studies on this subject have been carried out during that time. The researches conducted during that time, however, were focused on the mixed materials with different diameters that exist in a natural condition. There has been no study conducted using coal fly ash that is by-product of the thermal power plant that is actively considered as the building materials. Therefore, this study was aimed at implementing compaction test and examining the basic engineering property in order to explore the influence of crushing the particles through compacting the admixture of crushed stone and coal fly ash produced from thermal power plant on its engineering property, and then the impact of the admixture volume of each material on compaction property and material property by conducting the One-Dimensional Compression Test. As result of compaction test, the optimum moisture ratio of coal fly ash was shown to be approx. 23%. As result of compaction test in accordance with the mixed ratio of coal fly ash and crushed stone under the same compaction energy and moisture ratio, dry unit weight tended to drop when the mixed ratio of coal fly ash exceeded 30%, while it reached approx. $1.81gf/cm^3$ when the mixed ratio was 30%. As result of One-Dimensional Compression Test in accordance with the mixed ratio of crushed stone and coal fly ash, the change in void ratio by particle crushing was at the highest level in the case of coal fly ash 100%, while the lowest level in the case of crushed stone 100%. In the case of mixed materials of crushed stone and coal fly ash, compression index was at the lowest level in case of coal fly ash 30%, and therefore this ratio of mixed material was judged to be the most stable from an engineering aspect.

To evaluate the removal performance of PO4-P and NH3-N, laboratory experiments were conducted by filling a container with oyster shells, pyrolyzed at 100℃ (POS100), 600℃ (POS600) and 800℃ (POS800), and passing artificial wastewaters through the container. The pH in the ef luent was found to increase due to CaO eluted from oyster shell. Removal amounts of PO4-P of ~23.1 mg/kg, 16.1 mg/kg, and 15.9 mg/kg were obtained when POS100, POS600, and POS800, respectively, were used; therefore, the highest PO4-P removal amount was obtained when POS100 was used. It is considered that Ca and dolomite in the oyster shells adsorbed and precipitated PO4-P. Removal amounts of NH3-N were of ~3.56 mg/kg, 5.72 mg/kg, and 3.97 mg/kg were obtained when POS100, POS600, and POS800, respectively, were used The low removal rate for NH3-N is probably due to unstable nitrification, use of sealed containers, and the effect of NH3-N being converted to NH4+ upon increasing pH. Based on these results, pyrolyzed oyster shell is expected to promote changes in PO4-P and NH3-N concentrations through chemical reactions. These results can also be used for basic research in the development of wastewater treatment.

Recently, self-healing concrete has been researched as maintenance and repair of concrete structures are important challenges we face. This paper focused on possibility of ion exchange resin as a novelty material directly and actively controlling harmful ions of concrete, whereas most self-healing concrete researches have been focused on methods to automatically filling and repairing internal crack of concrete. Because equilibrium properties between ion exchange resin and harmful ion is important before design of cement mixing proportion, it was conducted to remove chloride or sulfate in saturated $Ca(OH)_2$ solutions containing NaCl or $Na_2SO_4$. The removal performance was analyzed using kinetic equation and isothermal equation. Consequently, the removal properties of anion exchange resin were relatively more dependent on pseudo second reaction equation and Langmuir equation than pseudo first reaction equation and Freundlich equation. And it was concluded that each chloride and sulfate can be removed to the maximum 1068 ppm and 1314 ppm.
Statement of Problem : With increasing demand of the implant-supported prosthesis, it is advantageous to use the different platform width of the fixture according to bone quantity and quality of the patients. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to assess the loading distributing characteristics of two implant designs according to each platform width of fixture, under vertical and inclined loading using finite element analysis. Material and method : The two kinds of finite element models were designed according to each platform width of future (4.1mm restorative component x 11.5mm length, 5.0mm wide-diameter restorative component x 11.5mm length). The crown for mandibular first molar was made using UCLA abutment. Each three-dimensional finite element model was created with the physical properties of the implant and surrounding bone. This study simulated loads of 200N at the central fossa in a vertical direction, 200N at the outside point of the central fossa with resin filling into screw hole in a vertical direction and 200N at the buccal cusp in a 300 transverse direction individually Von Mises stresses were recorded and compared in the supporting bone, fixture, and abutment screw. Results : The stresses were concentrated mainly at the cortex in both vertical and oblique load ing but the stresses in the cancellous bone were low in both vertical and oblique loading. Bending moments resulting from non-axial loading of dental implants caused stress concentrations on cortical bone. The magnitude of the stress was greater with the oblique loading. Increasing the platform width of the implant fixture decreased the stress in the supporting bone, future and abutment screw. Increased the platform width of fixture decreased the stress in the crown and platform. Conclusion : Conclusively, this investigation provides evidence that the platform width of the implant fixture directly affects periimplant stress. By increasing the platform width of the implant fixture, it showed tendency to decreased the supporting bone, future and screw. But, further clinical studies are necessary to determine the ideal protocol for the successful placement of wide platform implants.

The use of stainless steel crowns are indicated for restoration of primary or permanent molars with proximal dental caries, extensive dental caries, or previous pulp treatment with increased danger of tooth fracture. Stainless steel crowns were introduced by Humphrey in 1950. For their improved durability, longevity, and success rate, they have been strongly considered for restoring extensive and multi-surfaced dental caries of molars in pediatric dentistry. However, they also have shortcomings, such as possibility of pulpal exposure or damaging proximal surface of adjacent teeth. In addition, when oversized stainless steel crowns are used, eruption of the adjacent permanent teeth may be disturbed by their prominent margin. As a means to compensate the shortcomings of stainless steel crowns, use of orthodontics bands may be considered. It is an alternative restoration method, where an orthodontic band is placed on a tooth first and cavity is restored with filling material, such as composite resin, glass ionomer, or amalgam. The use of an orthodontic band is indicated for molar restoration with cervical dental caries, extensive dental caries, enamel hypoplasia, or previous pulp treatment. Because it requires shorter chair time compared to stainless steel crown, its application is very useful for children with poor behavior. However, restoration using an orthodontic band requires good oral hygiene after its application. This case report illustrates the conservative restoration of primary molars and permanent molars with extensive dental caries using orthodontic bands.
Assessment and damage reduction strategy of acidic rock drainage were conducted in a section of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ highway construction site. The geology of the studied section consists of Icheonri sandstone and intermediate to acidic volcanic rocks. Sulfides occur as a disseminated type in sandstone and volcanics which were altered by the hydrothermal solution of granite intrusion. Volcanics and sandstone with a high content of sulfide were classified as a potentially acid rock drainage(ARD) forming rock. The drainage originated from those rocks may acidify and contaminate the surrounding area during the highway construction. Therefore, the drainage should be treated before it is discharged. A slope landslide hazard due to the ARD was also expected and the coating technology was recommended for the reduction of ARD generation as a preemptive measure before reinforcement work for enhancing slope stability such as shotcrete and anchor. According to the ARD risk analysis, those rocks should not be used as cement aggregate, but only to be used as a bank fill material of a filling-up system that allows minimal contact with rainfall and groundwater.
