Seismic behavior of SFRC shear wall with CFST columns

  • The use of reinforced concrete (RC) shear wall with concrete filled steel tube (CFST) columns and steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) shear wall has aroused widespread attention in recent years. A new shear wall, named SFRC shear wall with CFST columns, is proposed in this paper, which makes use of CFST column and SFRC shear wall. Six SFRC shear wall with CFST columns specimens were tested under cyclic loading. The effects of test parameters including steel fiber volume fraction and concrete strength on the failure mode, strength, ductility, rigidity and dissipated energy of shear wall specimens were investigated. The results showed that all tested shear wall specimens exhibited a distinct shear failure mode. Steel fibers could effectively control the crack width and improve the distribution of cracks. The load carrying and energy dissipation capacities of specimens increased with the increase of steel fiber volume fraction and concrete strength, whilst the ductility of specimens increased with the increase of steel fiber volume fraction and the decrease of concrete strength.

  • In this paper, various kinds of epoxy based nanocomposites were made and AC breakdown properties of nano-$TiO_2$ and micro-silica filler mixture of epoxy based composites were studied by sphere to sphere electrode. Moreover, nano- and micro-filler combinations were adopted as an approach toward practical application of nanocomposite insulating materials. AC breakdown test was performed at room temperature $(25^{\circ}C)$, $80^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$. The result shows breakdown strength about non-filled, nano-scale $TiO_2$, micro-scale silica and nano-$TiO_2$, micro-silica filled epoxy composites.

Design of Shock Absorber Housing Using Aluminum Vacuum Die Casting Technology

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a high-strength, high-toughness, thin-walled aluminum shock absorber housing product by applying a high vacuum die casting method to improve internal gas defect and formability. The analysis program dedicated for the casting was used because it was too costly and time-consuming to adopt the gating system design. The final casting plan was designed based on the flow pattern of the material filled into the mold and the result of air pressure and air pocket after the material was completely filled in the mold. Gaty shape was designed as a split type. The runner was designed to have the same shape as the initial inlet curve of the cavity, and the flow of the molten metal was prevented from turbulent flow. The most favorable results were obtained when the injection speed was $V_2=4.0m/s$. Defects on pores were reduced by applying high vacuum level inside the mold.

  • In this study, one type of circular shaped composite tube was used, combined with reinforcing foam and without foam. Furthermore, CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) circular member manufactured from CFRP prepreg sheet for lightweight design. CFRP is an anisotropic material which is the most widely adapted lightweight structural member. The crashworthy behavior of circular composite material tubes subjected to static axial compression under same conditions is reported in this paper. Test was executed in order to compare the results to the energy absorption and collapse shape. The collapse mode during the failure process were observed and analyzed. The behavior of polymeric foams to the tubes crashworthiness were also investigated. According to the experimental results, specimens filled with foam are higher total energy absorption than the other specimens not filled with the foam.

Finite element analysis of CFT columns subjected to pure bending moment

  • Proper material constitutive models for concrete-filled tube (CFT) columns of circular cross section and subjected to pure bending moment are proposed. These material models are implemented into the Abaqus finite element program and verified against experimental data. It has been shown that the steel tube does not provide good confining effect to the concrete core when the CFT columns is subjected to pure bending moment. When the diameter-to-thickness ratio of the CFT columns is small, the behavior of the CFT column is the same as the steel tube without a concrete core.

  • In this paper a new sandwich composite is developed by injection silicone rubber into the honeycomb core. This composite material is designed to have a improved damping performance. For verification damping tests were conducted to the specimens with different stacked USNl25 carbon/epoxy prepreg laminate facesheets, $[0/90]_{4s},\;[0/45-45/90]_{2s},\;[45/-45]_{4s}$. Frequency response, displacement response and damping ratio were checked and compared for the both groups of specimens, with and without rubber fillings. The experimental results provided a good agreement with our original material design concept.

  • The paper presents methodologies and results concerning one- and two-dimensional numerical modeling of radio frequency oscillations in a coaxial transmission line fed with a short pulse of electric current. The line is partially filled with a ferrite material, magnetized longitudinally close to saturation. The 2D model has permitted analyzing, for the first time in the art, the spatial structure and dynamics of the wave field within the radially non-uniform cross-section planes of the non-linear and dispersive guiding structure. This opens ways for optimizing size parameters of the line and the extent to which it is filled with the ferromagnetic material, thus increasing the line's electric strength and intensity of the r.f. oscillations.

On the Forced Resonant Characteristics of Partially Filled Electrically Small Cavity with Loaded Reactance

  • This paper presents the farced resonant characteristics of an electrically small cavity partially filled with dielectric material. The method of moments with Galerkins procedure is used to determine the farced resonant characteristics of the small cavity. In order to obtain the equations of the external reactance gives rise to the farced resonance at a given frequency, the cavity with external reactance can be treated as two-port network which has the admittance parameters. Numerical results show that the forced resonance, series or parallel resonance, can be obtained by the controlling the external reactance. To verify the availability of the theoretical analysis, experiments are carried out for the bakelite as the material by measuring the length of external reactance at operating frequencies.

  • Using as an alternate of insulating material for outdoor and cable, however, it has still many problems to be solved in the field of material such as resistances of environment and tracking. In this paper, Tracking property of PVC filled with aluminum hydroxide have been investigated by ASTM D 2303 method. It was found that time to track of PVC filled aluminum hydroxide was longer than that of unfilled PVC. Tensile strength and elongation of PVC were decreases increased with aluminum hydroxide contents. On the other hand, Thermegravimetry of PVC decreased. Therefore, the increase of time to tracking breakdown by antitracking additive can be explained by increased degradation temperature of polymer.
