  • The MPC(Moisture Protected Computer) system is completely unique. It was recently invented in Korea and it is a technological break-through in the field of computer systems. It will be instrumental in the development of a complete moisture air-tight capability and will work well in field environments. The MPC includes the following: 1) An enclosed design. 2) Moisture proof computer enclosure joints. 3) System dust protection & an impact buffing system. 4) A normal temperature maintenance system when the temperature inside the computer is low. 5) The ability to generate heat and a radiate system inside the computer 6) An automatic power input sensing controller device. 7) A safety device in case of mis-operation. 8) A proper admission procedure for various tests. Because of the above, and as a result of temperature property experiments, there aren't any operational problems. The result of this treatise could provide very important data for verification of cases involving: using strong materials to protect against explosions, searching for ways to make the size and weight small, and for making repairs easier. As a result, it could achieve price and function competitiveness in advanced countries such as the USA and in Europe.

Structural evaluation of an existing steel natatorium by FEM and dynamic measurement

  • Based on numerical and experimental methods, a systematic structural evaluation of a steel natatorium in service was carried out in detail in this paper. Planning of inspection tasks was proposed firstly according to some national codes in China in order to obtain the economic and reliable results. The field visual inspections and static computation were conducted in turn under in-service environmental conditions. Further a three-dimensional finite element model was developed according to its factual geometry properties obtained from the field inspection. An analytical modal analysis was performed to provide the analytical modal properties. The field vibration tests on the natatorium were conducted and then two different system identification methods were used to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the natatorium. A good correlation was achieved in results obtained from the two system identification methods and the finite element method (FEM). The numerical and experimental results demonstrated that the main structure of the natatorium in its present status is safe and it still satisfies the demand of the national codes in China. But the roof system such as purlines and skeletons must be removed and rebuilt completely. Moreover the system identification results showed that field vibration test is sufficient to identify the reliable dynamic properties of the natatorium. The constructive suggestion on structural evaluation of the natatorium is that periodic assessment work must be maintained to ensure the natatorium's safety in the future.

  • A series of filed tests have been performed to investigate the aerodynamic effects on platform of the railway station during the passage of train that can be unpleasant and even dangerous to the pedestrians. To assess the aerodynamic effects on the platform, two aerodynamic properties has been measured; one is the wind gust induced by the train and the other is the pressure pulses generated when the nose and the tail of train passes. To measure these aerodynamic properties during the train passage, an array of hot-wire type anemometers and several sets of pressure transducers have been used, respectively. This paper deals with the filed test on conventional railway at about l00km/h operational speed, in which total 34 measurements has been made at the Bugok station in Seoul-Busan line for Saemaul and Mugungwha train. The results showed dramatic differences in the aerodynamic features between the two trains that are supposed to originate from the contrasting nose shapes of the trains.

  • This paper presents a radiation-hardened-by-design preamplifier that utilizes a self-compensation technique with a charge-sensitive amplifier (CSA) and replica for total ionizing dose (TID) effects. The CSA consists of an operational amplifier (OPAMP) with a 6-bit binary weighted current source (BWCS) and feedback network. The replica circuit is utilized to compensate for the TID effects of the CSA. Two comparators can detect the operating point of the replica OPAMP and generate appropriate signals to control the switches of the BWCS. The proposed preamplifier was fabricated using a general-purpose complementary metal-oxide-silicon field effect transistor 0.18 ㎛ process and verified through a test up to 230 kGy (SiO2) at a rate of 10.46 kGy (SiO2)/h. The code of the BWCS control circuit varied with the total radiation dose. During the verification test, the initial value of the digital code was 39, and a final value of 30 was observed. Furthermore, the preamplifier output exhibited a maximum variation error of 2.39%, while the maximum rise-time error was 1.96%. A minimum signal-to-noise ratio of 49.64 dB was measured.

  • Fuel locking mechanisms (FLMs) are essential in upward-flow research reactors to prevent accidental fuel separation from the core during reactor operation. This study presents a novel design concept for a remotely controlled plate-type nuclear fuel locking mechanism. By employing electromagnetic field analysis, we optimized the design of the electromagnet for fuel unlocking, allowing the FLM to adapt to various research reactor core designs, minimizing installation space, and reducing maintenance efforts. Computational flow analysis quantified the drag acting on the fuel assembly caused by coolant upflow. Subsequently, we performed finite element analysis and evaluated the structural integrity of the FLM based on the ASME boiler and pressure vessel (B&PV) code, considering design loads such as dead weight and flow drag. Our findings confirm that the new FLM design provides sufficient margins to withstand the specified loads. We fabricated a prototype comprising the driving part, a simplified moving part, and a dummy fuel assembly. Through basic operational tests on the assembled components, we verified that the manufactured products meet the performance requirements. This remote-controlled micro locking mechanism holds promise in enhancing the safety and efficiency of plate-type nuclear fuel operation in upflow research reactors.

Development of an accelerated life test procedure considering the integrated equivalent load of an implement working pump for an agricultural tractor

  • The goal of this study was to develop an accelerated life test for an implement working pump for an agricultural tractor. The field experiments were conducted to measure the load of an implement working pump during major agricultural operations such as plow tillage, rotary tillage, baler operations, and wrapping operations. The measurement system for an implement working pump load was constructed using a pressure sensor, the engine rotational speed, and the hitch pump displacement. The measured implement working pump load was calculated as an equivalent load for each agricultural operation using the Palmgren-Miner rule, which is a cumulative damage method. The equivalent load was calculated using the total load data and peak load data when the total data included the operation of an implement working. The annual usage time of the agricultural tractor was applied to develop two integrated equivalent loads. The acceleration factor was calculated to develop an accelerated life test and was calculated from the two integrated equivalent loads, the maximum pressure, and the flow rate conditions of the hitch pump. In Korea, the warranty life of a tractor is 2,736 hours, and the time required for the test to guarantee the operational life of tractors was calculated as 7,561 hours. The acceleration factors were calculated as 453.6 and 38.3, respectively, from the total load data and peak load data. The fatigue test time can be shortened by 16.7 and 197.4 hours according to the result of the acceleration factors.

  • It is necessary to check the fault of phased array antenna, when the active phased array radar installed in the site is suspected performance degradation due to external impact or long-term operation. However, the near-field test should be performed in anechoic chamber in order to measure the phased array antenna, so that much time and cost must be applied for radar disassembly and transportation, and the operational availability of the radar system is deteriorates. Therefore, we propose a near-field scanner with mobility to check the fault of the phased array antenna at the site, and the effectiveness of the proposed scanner was verified with ${\pm}0.5dB$ magnitude and ${\pm}1.5^{\circ}$ phase in comparison with measured data in anechoic chamber.

  • The SAM(Surface-to-Air Missile) systems will be operated until disposing of it after production, the necessary test and evaluation should be performed during the development stage to ensure the operational performance after deployment. As development of technologies related to the electromagnetic wave field of missile system is required, so the verification of the electromagnetic environment has become more important. Therefore it is necessary to carefully review whether there are any weaknesses through the analysis of the SAM system when establishing the test and evaluation procedure. This paper describes the general electromagnetic test procedure for SAM system and discusses the matters that need to be supplemented. Also, methods for supplementation and review results were written.

By using attached every electro-magnetic tag, someone detects it's native information as well as environmental information such as temperature, humidity, pollution and infiltration information(Sensor). someone connects it realtime network and manage generated information(Network). 21st century's war is joint combined operation connecting with ground, sea and air smoothly in digitalized war field, and is systematic war provided realtime information from sensor to shooter. So, it needs dramatic development on watch reconnaissance, command and control, pinpoint strike etc. Ubiquitous computing and network technologies are essential in national defense to operate 21st century style war. It is possible to use many parts such as USN combined smart dust and sensor network to protect friend unit as well as to watch enemy's deep area by unmanned reconnaissance, wearable computer upgrading soldier's operational ability and combat power dramatically, RFID which can be used material management as well as on time support. Especially, unmanned watch system using USN is core part to transit network centric military service and to get national defense efficiency which overcome the dilemma of national defense person resource reducing, and upgrade guard quality level, and improve combat power by normalizing guardian's bio rhythm. According to the test result of sensor network unmanned watch system, it needs more effort and time to stabilize because of low USN technology maturity and using maturity. In the future, USN unmanned watch system project must be decided the application scope such as application area and starting point by evaluating technology maturity and using maturity. And when you decide application scope, you must consider not only short period goal as cost reduction, soldier decrease and guard power upgrade but also long period goal as advanced defense ability strength. You must build basic infra in advance such as light cable network, frequency allocation and power facility etc. First of all, it must get budget guarantee and driving force for USN unmanned watch system project related to defense policy. You must forwarded the USN project assuming posses of operation skill as procedure, system, standard, training in advance. Operational skill posses is come from step by step application strategy such as test phase, introduction phase, spread phase, stabilization phase and also repeated test application taking example project.
