  • Asymmetric tip clearance in an axial compressor induces pressure and velocity redistributions along the circumferential direction in an axial compressor. This paper presents the mechanism of the flow redistribution due to the asymmetric tip clearance with a simple numerical modeling. The flow field of a rotor of an axial compressor is predicted when an asymmetric tip clearance occurs along the circumferential direction. The modeling results are supported by CFD results not only to validate the present modeling but also to investigate more detailed flow fields. Asymmetric tip clearance makes local flow area and resultant axial velocity vary along the circumferential direction. This flow redistribution 'seed' results in a different flow patterns according to the flow coefficient. Flow field redistribution patterns are largely dependent on the local tip clearance performance at low flow coefficients. However, the contribution of the main flow region becomes dominant while the tip clearance effect becomes weak as the flow coefficient increases. The flow field redistribution pattern becomes noticeably strong if a blockage effect is involved when the flow coefficient increases. The relative flow angle at the small clearance region decreases which result in a negative incidence angle at the high flow coefficient. It causes a recirculation region at the blade pressure surface which results in the flow blockage. It promotes the strength of the flow field redistribution at the rotor outlet. These flow pattern changes have an effect on the blade loading perturbations. The integration of blade loading perturbation from control volume analysis of the circumferential momentum leads to well-known Alford's force. Alford's force is always negative when the flow blockage effects are excluded. However when the flow blockage effect is incorporated into the modeling, main flow effects on the flow redistribution is also reflected on the Alford's force at the high flow coefficient. Alford's force steeply increases as the flow coefficient increases, because of the tip leakage suppression and strong flow redistribution. The predicted results are well agreed to CFD results by Kang and Kang(2006).

  • Field robots operate in various areas, including construction, agriculture, forestry and manufacturing. Typical tasks of field robots used in various areas include excavation, flattening, and demolition. Such tasks are often accomplished in narrow alleys or indoors. In the case of field robots, there is a limit to working in a small space. Thus, to compensate for these shortcomings, many field robots equipped with Tiltrotators have recently been observed. The advantages of Tiltrotator are improved task efficiency and reduced operating time by reducing unnecessary behavior. We need simulation models that can improve the ability of new people to work and simulate tasks in advance. Thus, in this paper, we developed a simscape-based simulation model and modeling of 6DOF systems for field robots equipped with Tiltrotator. Dynamic modeling of field robot 3D models using Simcape multibody and hydraulic systems of field robots using Simcape Hydraulics were modeled. We applied a PID controller to create a control system that operates along the input angle. Simulation results show that errors occur when comparing input and output angles, but overall, they move along input angles.

  • The optimal type and discharging position of ocean outfall of wastewater have been determined by hydrodynamic modeling, near-field dilution modeling, and far-field dispersion modeling. Tide and tidal currents have been simulated by a finite element hydrodynamic model showing good agreements with field observations. Based on the hydrodynamic simulation results candidates of ocean outfall position were preliminary determined. Submerged single port and submerged multi-port diffuser were selected as discharging system alternatives and finally designed by considering tide, tidal currents and water depth. Initial dilution of wastewater discharged from the designed ports has been estimated by CORMIX system. A 2-dimensional random-walk dispersion model has been employed to simulate far-field dispersion of discharged wastewater.

  • GMR isolator was modeled using a Wheatstone bridge which is profitable for transmitting rectangular wave digital data, and the output voltage characteristics in relation to the input current were investigated in time domain. GMR isolator modeling was divided into two parts, namely magnetic and electric parts. The flow chart of the modeling was drawn in which measured MR curve of the spin valves were incorporated to obtain the electrical voltage output. For magnetic modeling, 3-dimensional model of planar coil was analyzed by FEM method to obtain the magnetic field strength corresponding to the input current. For electric modeling, resistance, inductance and capacitance of the planar coil were calculated and magnetic field waveform was obtained corresponding to the coil current waveform in time domain. Finally, MR-H curves of spin valves and the magnetic field waveform at the spin valves were composited to obtain the output voltage waveform of the isolator. Even though the amplitude of the coil current waveform was increased by 100%, decreased by 90%, or delayed by 10% of the period compared with the input current, similar transmitted output voltage waveform to the input current waveform was obtained due to hysteretic characteristics of the spin valves at the transmission speed of over 400 Mbit/s.

  • A method to account a detention in a rice paddy field in hydrologic modeling was tested at plot and watershed scales. Hydrologic Simulation Program - Fortran (HSPF) and its one of surface runoff modeling method, i.e Surface-Ftable, were used to simulate a inundated condition in a rice paddy culture for a study plot and basins in Saemangeum watershed. Surface-Ftable in HSPF defines surface runoff ratio with respect to surface water depth in a pervious land segment, which can be implemented to the feature of water management in a rice paddy field. A Surface-Ftable for paddy fields in Saemangeum watershed was developed based on the study paddy field monitoring data from 2013 to 2014, and was applied to Jeonju-chun and Jeongeup-chun basins which comprise 12% and 22% of paddy fields in the basins, respectively. Four gaging stations were used to calibrate and validate the watershed models for the period of 2009 and 2013. Model performed 7.13% and 9.68% in PBIAS, and 0.94 and 0.90 in monthly NSE during model calibrations at Jeonju and Jeongeup stations, respectively, while the models were validated its applicability at Hyoja and Gongpyung stations. The comparison of results with and without considering detention effect of paddy fields confirmed the validity of the Surface-Ftable method in modeling watersheds containing rice paddy fields.

  • In this work, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was used to model the dynamic behavior of ferromagnetic hysteresis derived from performing the mean-field analysis on the Ising model. The effect of field parameters and system structure (via coordination number) on dynamic critical points was elucidated. The Ising magnetization equation was drawn from mean-field picture where the steady hysteresis loops were extracted, and series of the dynamic critical points for constructing dynamic phase-diagram were depicted. From the dynamic critical points, the field parameters and the coordination number were treated as inputs whereas the dynamic critical temperature was considered as the output of the ANN. The input-output datasets were divided into training, validating and testing datasets. The number of neurons in hidden layer was varied in structuring ANN network with highest accuracy. The network was then used to predict dynamic critical points of the untrained input. The predicted and the targeted outputs were found to match well over an extensive range even for systems with different structures and field parameters. This therefore confirms the ANN capabilities and indicates the ANN ability in modeling the ferromagnetic dynamic hysteresis behavior for establishing the dynamic-phase-diagram.

  • The purpose of this study was to qualitatively examine the meaning of students' drawings in outdoor classes and modeling-based learning cycles. Ten students were observed in a gifted education center in Seoul. Under the theme of the Hantan River, three outdoor classes and three modeling activities were conducted. Data were collected to document all student activities during field trips and classroom modeling activities using simultaneous video and audio recording and observation notes made by the researcher and students. Please note it is unclear what this citation refers to. If it is the previous sentence it should be placed within that sentence's punctuation. Hatisaru (2020) Ddrawing typess were classified by modifying the representations in a learning context in geological field trips. We used deductive content analysis to describe the drawing characteristics, including students writing. The results suggest that students have symbolic images that consist of geologic concepts, visual images that describe topographical features, and affective images that express students' emotion domains. The characteristics were classified into explanation, generality, elaboration, evidence, coherence, and state-of-mind. The characteristics and drawing types are consecutive in the modeling-based learning cycle and reflect the students' positive attitude and cognitive scientific domain. Drawing is a useful tool for reflecting students' thoughts and opinions in both outdoor class and classroom modeling activities. This study provides implications for emphasizing the importance of drawing activities.
