  • In this study, in order to increase the span length, the temporary bridge which the center part of span is strengthened by small H-beam and the end part of span is strengthened by steel plate is designed and constructed. Real behavior of proposed temporary bridge is analyzed by field loading test. Analyzed shear buckling strengths and nonlinear behavior of suggested temporary bridge are compared with the those of general temporary bridge. From the field loading test results, it is analyzed that real static behavior of suggested temporary bridge is agree with the analyzed behavior which is considered in design process. Under the proposed design condition, it is investigated that the shear buckling strength of suggested temporary bridge is about 40% higher than that of general temporary bridge, and the ultimate strength of suggested temporary bridge is about higher than that of general temporary bridge. From the study results, it is concluded that the proposed temporary bridge can be applied by the needs of field condition.

  • Effects of microstructure and indentation stress on fracture behavior of glass-infiltrated alumina composite for dental restorative application were investigated by the Hertzian and Vickers indentation method. Indentation stress-strain curve of glass-infiltrated alumina has showed the quasi-plastic behavior - deviation from linearity at high stress and the classical Hertzian cone crack, which could be confirmed the subsurface damage micrographs using bonded-interface specimen technique. The indentation stress-strain curves for the starting preforms are strongly dependent on porosity and microstructure of the preforms. On the other hand, the curves for the infiltrated composites are relatively insensitive to these factors. The failure of composite is originated at quasi-plastic deformation region. Damage and fracture behavior due to Hertzian stress field is theoretically examined, so that the indentation stress field plays a great role in material degradation. After Hertzian indentation annealing processing changes fracture behavior of alumina composite, so that stress field in material is healed through annealing.

  • Nanocrystalline materials of Ni and Ni-Cu alloy have been synthesized by the pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method and these abnormal magnetic properties in the magnetic ordered state have been characterized using both VSM and SQUID in the range of high and low magnetic fields. Ni and Ni-Cu particles with an average size of 20 to 80 nm were found to influence magnetic hysterisis behavior and the results of powder neutron diffraction patterns and saturation magnetization curves are shown to indicate the absence of the NiO phase. The shifted hysterisis loop and irreversibility of the magnetization curve in the high field region were observed in the magnetic-ordered state of both Ni and Ni-Cu. The virgin magnetization curve for Ni slightly spillover on the limited hysterisis loop ($\pm$20kOe). This irreversibility in the high field of 50 kOe can be explained by non-col-linear behavior and the existence of the metastable states of the magnetization at the surface layer (or core) of the particle in the applied magnetic field. Immiscible alloy of Cu-Ni was also found to show irreversibility having two different magnetic phases.

  • This paper presents development of flow control valve using MR fluid. Generally, since the apparent viscosity of MR fluids is adjusted by applying magnetic fields, the MR valves can control high level fluid power without any mechanical moving parts. In this paper, flow control valve using MR fluid on the behavior of the magnetic field influence on the numerical analysis of more accurate electromagnetic parameters were obtained, even if when magnetic field apply inside of surrounding MR fluid from electromagnet, more realistic designing way analysis of characteristic of whole magnetic field distribution is suggested by surrounding magnetic material. Also, comparison of flow rate inlet and outlet, behavior of MR fluid in experiments proposed. A new type of flow control valve using MR fluid is proposed by analysis of behavior of MR fluid in experiments.

  • Top Base Foundation(TBF) is a stabilization method for light weight structures particularly in the soft ground. It is widely used for the increment of bearing capacity and restraining settlement of foundations when the bearing capacity of ground is not enough. However, when the design values from exiting Japanese standard are compared with the observation values from the field measurement, the bearing capacity of exiting standard estimated smaller For this reason, it is necessary to establish more reasonable prediction technique considering to understand the behavior of TBF in soft ground. In this study, 1/5 scale model tests were performed in the laboratory. Also, full scale tests were carried out in order to investigate the behavior of TBF with various shapes. In addition, about 100 sites measurement data were evaluated to investigate the behavior of TBF in various ground conditions. Based on the results of the model tests and field measurement data, it was possible to establish more reasonable the bearing capacity equation of TBF considering various N-value of soil, the effect of underground water and failure shapes.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the dynamic behavior of magnetic fluid in a circular pipe with multiple permanent magnets. Magnetic fluid react on magnetic field against the normal fluid. In other words, magnetic fluid flow has the electromagnetism and fluid mechanics. So magnetic fluids has studied about the fluids properties and experiment. In this paper we studied the magnetic fluids velocity and pressure distribution for the novel type actuator. Because the velocity and pressure distribution is the important element of the magnetic fluids flow. First, we analyzed the Maxwell equation for the multiple permanent magnet and then concluded the governing equations for the magnetic fluid flow using the equation of Navier-Stokes. And, we simulated the dynamic behavior of magnetic fluid flow using the FEM(Finite Element Method). And we illustrated the relation between magnetic field and dynamic behavior of magnetic fluid flow.

  • In this paper, we investigated the quenching characteristics of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with connection of $2{\times}3$ matrixes. This SFCL consists of the trigger part to apply magnetic field and the current-limiting part to limit the fault current. When the fault occurs, the magnetic field generated in the reactor connected in parallel was applied to the two superconducting units of the current-limiting part to reduce of inhomogeneous critical current behavior between the superconducting units. The quenching behavior of a superconducting unit in the trigger part was affected by the increase of turn numbers. This is because of the difference of current distribution between the inductance of the reactors and the resistance generated in the superconducting units in trigger part. We confirmed that the voltage differences between two superconducting units of the current-limiting part were decreased. This is because of the improvement of inhomogeneous critical current behavior between the superconducting units according to the increase of external magnetic field.

  • Numerical methods to estimate behaviors of jointed rock mass can be roughly divided into two methods : continuous and discontinuous model. Generally, distinct element method(DEM) is applied in discontinuous model, and finite element method(FDM) or finite difference method(FDM) is utilized in continuum model. To predict a behavior of discontinuous model by DEM, it is essential to understand characteristics of joints developed in rock mass through field tests. However, results of field tests can not provide full information about rock mass because field tests are conducted in limited area. In this paper, discontinuous analysis by UDEC and continuous analysis by FLAC are utilized to estimate a behavior of a tunnel in jointed rock mass. For including discontinuous analysis in continuous analysis, joints in rock mass is considered by reducing rock mass properties obtained by RMR and decreasing shear strength of rock mass. By comparing and revising two analysis results, analysis results similar with practical behavior of a tunnel can be induced and appropriate support system is decided.

  • In cases of the microfluidic channel, the electrokinetic influence on the transport behavior can be found. The externally applied body force originated from the electrostatic interaction between the nonlinear Poisson-Boltzmann field and the flow-induced electrical field is applied in the equation of motion. The electrostatic potential profile is computed a priori by applying the finite difference scheme, and an analytical solution to the Navier-Stokes equation of motion for slit-like microchannel is obtained via the Green's function. An explicit analytical expression for the induced electrokinetic potential is derived as functions of relevant physicochemical parameters. The effects of the electric double layer, the zeta potential of the solid surface, and the charge condition of the channel wall on the velocity profile as well as the electroviscous behavior are examined. With increases in either electric double layer or zeta potential, the average fluid velocity in the channel of same charge is entirely reduced, whereas the electroviscous effect becomes stronger. We observed an opposite behavior in the channel of opposite charge, where the attractive electrostatic interactions are presented.

  • In this paper, the effect of magnetic field on the vibration behavior of a Magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) sandwich MEMS actuated by electrostatic actuation with conductive skins are examined within the multiple scales (MMS) perturbation method. Magnetorheological smart materials have been widely used in vibration control of various systems due to their mechanical properties change under the influence of different magnetic fields. To investigate the vibrational behavior of the movable electrode, the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, as well as Hamilton's principle is used to derive the equations and the related boundary conditions governing the dynamic behavior of the system are applied. The results of this study show that by placing the Magnetorheological elastomer core in the movable electrode and applying different magnetic fields on it, its natural vibrational frequency can be affected so that by increasing the applied magnetic field, the system's natural frequency increases. Also, the effect of various factors such as the electric potential difference between two electrodes, changes in the thickness of the core and the skins, electrode length, the distance between two electrodes and also change in vibration modes of the system on natural frequencies have been investigated.
