  • The objective of the study is to examine the characteristic correlations between reinforcing carbon fiber and interfacial adhesion agent since the interfacial adhesion strength between reinforcing carbon fiber and matrices is believed to be an essential element influencing the physical properties in carbon fiber reinforced cement composite using slurry method. The integrity of interfacial adhesion between reinforcing fiber and cement not only affects the quality of fiber reinforced cement composite but also influences to a large degree the physical properties of the cement composite when producing carbon fiber reinforced cement composite using slurry method. Having analyzed the physical properties 1.e., water content, tensile strength, flexural strength and flexural toughness of carbon fiber reinforced cement composite specimens, C-PAM(cation polyacrylamide) was determined to be an optimum interfacial adhesion agent. The study has also demonstrated that interfacial adhesion strength varies largely on the content and type of the reinforcing fiber. Judging from magnified view of the tensile shear cross-section using VMS(video microscope system), interfacial adhesion strength between reinforcing fiber and matrices is affected by the type of interfacial adhesion agent. According to the result of the experiments, C-PAM was determined to be an ideal interfacial adhesion agent when using carbon fiber in producing carbon fiber reinforced cement composite with the optimum content of carbon fiber being established.

  • This paper aims to develop a practical approach to modeling of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) strengthened masonry panels. The main objective is to provide suitable relations for the material characterization of the masonry constituents so that the finite element applications of elasto-plastic theory achieves a close fit to the experimental load-displacement diagrams of the walls subjected to in-plane shear and compression. Two relations proposed for masonry columns confined with FRP are adjusted for the cohesion and the internal friction angle of both units and mortar. Relating the mechanical parameters to the uniaxial compression strength and the hydrostatic pressure acting over the wall surface, the effects of major and intermediate principal stresses ${\sigma}_1$ and ${\sigma}_2$ on the yielding and the shape of the deviatoric section are then reflected into the analyses. Performing nonlinear finite element analyses (NLFEA) for the three walls tested in two different studies, their stress-strain response and failure modes are eventually evaluated through the comparisons with the experimental behavior.

  • In this study, an effective numerical method is introduced for nonlinear inelastic analyses of rectangular concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) frames for the first time. A steel-concrete composite fiber beam-column element model is developed that considers material, and geometric nonlinearities, and residual stresses. This is achieved by using stability functions combined with integration points along the element length to capture the spread of plasticity over the composite cross-section along the element length. Additionally, a multi-spring element with a zero-length is employed to model the nonlinear semi-rigid beam-to-column connections in CFST frame models. To solve the nonlinear equilibrium equations, the generalized displacement control algorithm is adopted. The accuracy of the proposed method is firstly verified by a large number of experiments of CFST members subjected to various loading conditions. Subsequently, the proposed method is applied to investigate the nonlinear inelastic behavior of rectangular CFST frames with fully rigid, semi-rigid, and hinged connections. The accuracy of the predicted results and the efficiency pertaining to the computation time of the proposed method are demonstrated in comparison with the ABAQUS software. The proposed numerical method may be efficiently utilized in practical designs for advanced analysis of the rectangular CFST structures.

  • In the present study, the seismic performance of structural walls with boundary elements confined by conventional tie hoops and steel fiber concrete (SFC) was investigated. Cyclic lateral loading tests on four wall specimens under constant axial load were performed. The primary test parameters considered were the spacing of boundary element transverse reinforcement and the use of steel fiber concrete. Test results showed that the wall specimen with boundary elements complying with ACI 318-11 21.9.6 failed at a high drift ratio of 4.5% due to concrete crushing and re-bar buckling. For the specimens where SFC was selectively used in the plastic hinge region, the spalling and crushing of concrete were substantially alleviated. However, sliding shear failure occurred at the interface of SFC and plain concrete at a moderate drift ratio of 3.0% as tensile plastic strains of longitudinal bars were accumulated during cyclic loading. The behaviors of wall specimens were examined through nonlinear section analysis adopting the stress-strain relationships of confined concrete and SFC.

  • The ductility of reinforced concrete bearing walls subjected to high axial loading and moment can be enhanced by improving the deformability of the compression zone or by reducing the neutral axis depth. The current state-of-the-art procedure evaluating the confinement effect prompts a consideration of the spaces between the transverse and longitudinal reinforcing bars, and a provision of tie bars. At the same time, consideration must also be given to the thickness of the walls. However, such considerations indicate that the confinement effect cannot be expected with the current practice of detailing wall ends in Korea. As an alternative, a comprehensive method for dimensioning boundary elements is proposed so that the entire section of a boundary element can stay within the compression zone when the full flexural strength of the wall is developed. In this comprehensive method, the once predominant code approach for determining the compression zone has been advanced by considering the rectangular stress block parameters varying with the extreme compression fiber strain. Moreover, the size of boundary elements can also be determined in relation to the architectural requirement.

  • The purpose of this paper is that investigates the dynamic behavior characteristic of W.T.S(Wind turbine System) and carries out the evaluation analysis during operating W.T.S. To investigate the dynamic behavior characteristic of W.T.S, the experiments to measure vibration of the blade from the attached accelerometer on the flap and edge section of the blade that is one of the most important elements of dynamic characteristic of W.T.S are performed. Natural frequency and mode shape are calculated with commercial program (ANSYS) using the measured vibration acceleration that receives the signal with F.F.T Analyzer from the accelerometer. For validation of these experiments, the finite element analysis is performed with commercial F.E.M program (ANSYS) on the basis of the natural frequency and mode shape. The results indicate that experimental values have good agreements with the finite element analysis.

  • Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composite, DFRCC has strain hardening property with multiple crack in failed of compressive, tensile, bending force, concrete is not so that. But DFRCC could not use to the building element for which has not structural stiffness only has ductile property. DFRCC is used for repair only in recently. In that reason, we considered the concrete of light weight concrete, porous concrete, mortar complex with DFRCC. and DFRCC reinforced by fiber net, steel bar. In this study, results of experiment on complex method of concrete and DFRC were shown as follows; The complex methods of concrete lay on DFRCC, sandwich layer composition were effective for bending force depending on section size each layer, and reinforce DFRCC by fiber net, steel bar was effective method also.

  • The theory of non-prismatic folded plate structures was reported by the senior author in 1965 and 1966. Fiber reinforced composite materials are strong in tension. The structural element for such tension force is very thin and weak against bending because of small bending stiffnesses. Naturally, the box type section is considered as the optimum structural configuration because of its high bending stiffnesses. Such structures can be effectively analyzed by the folded plate theory with relative ease. The "hollow" bending member with uniform cross-section can be treated as prismatic folded plates which is a special case of the non-prismatic folded plates. Tn this paper, the result of analysis of a folded plates with one box type uniform cross-section is presented. Each plate is made of composite laminates with fiber orientation of [ABBCAAB]$_r$, with A=-B=$45^{\circ}$, and C=$90^{\circ}$. The influence of the span to depth ratio is also studied. When this ratio is 5, the difference between the results of folded plate theory and beam theory is 1.66%. is 1.66%.

  • The studies on the applications of waste materials in concrete have been increased in Iraq since 2003. In this research, rubber wastes that resulting from scrapped tires was added to concrete mix with presence of superplasticizer. The mechanical properties of concrete and workability of concrete mixes were studied. The used rubber were ranging in size from (2-4) mm with addition percentages of (0.1% and 0.2%) by volume of concrete. The results of mechanical properties of concrete show that rubber enhance the ductility, and compressive and tensile strength compared to concrete without it. Also, the flexural behavior of hybrid strength concrete beams (due to using rubber at the bottom or top layer of section) was investigated. The rubber concrete located at bottom layer gives higher values of ultimate loads and deflections compared to the beam with top layer. A similar response to fiber concrete beam (all section contains 0.1% rubber) was recognized. Finite element modeling in three dimensions was carried for the tested beams using ABAQUS software. The ultimate loads and deflection obtained from experimental and finite elements are in good agreements with average difference of 8% in ultimate load and 20% in ultimate deflection.
