고상합성법에 의한 고밀토 YIG 자성체 제조 (Preparation of High density YIG ferrite by conventional solid-state sintering)

  • YIG(Yttrium Iron Garnet) is one of the most widely used ferrites for microwave telecommunication. It used as a passive devices such as isolators and circulators. In order to reduce the insertion losses of these passive devices, it is very important to reduce magnetic loss of the ferrites. In general, the magnetic losses of ferrites is closely related to the microstructure of the ceramics. In the sintering of YIG, pores are easily trapped in grains and grain boundaries. These pores cause to increase magnetic losses of the sinterted bodies. In this paper, the effect of the $SiO_2$ addition on the microstructure was discussed. Increasing the $SiO_2$ addition, the grain size was reduced, which means that added acts as a grain-growth inhibitor. During the sintering, $SiO_2$ settled down on the grain boundaries, and drag the grain growth. Therefore, there is enough time for pores to move out. The relative density of YIG sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ with 1 mol% $SiO_2$ addition was 99.6%. $\Delta$H of these samples was under 50 Oe.

Development of EMC Filter In the High Powered Breaker

  • Remarkable developments in the electric and electronic industry have given people's daily life much more convenience and abundance. However, in electrical communication, or electric and electronic fields, making electrical and electronic devices more functional, more integrated, and faster have put electromagnetic interference(EMI) into more complex forms, and lots of problems such as interruption, malfunction, or interference by noise between electrical communication systems occurs every day. In this research, the electromagnetic compatibility(EMC) filter in the high powered breaker was designed and fabricated as a counter measure. The filter attenuated noise more than 20${\sim}$50 dB in the range of 10 MHz${\sim}$1.5 GHz. And, when the electric fast transient(EFT) of 4 kV in the level 4 of IEC 61000-4-4 was induced, it was soon suppressed to 600 V.

  • Two-step thermochemical cycle using ferrite-oxide($Fe_2O_4$) device was investigated. The $H_2O$(g) was converted into $H_2$ in the first experiment which was performed using a dish type solar thermal system. However the experiment was lasted only for 2 cycles because the metal oxide device was sintered and broken down. Another problem was that the reaction was taken place mainly on a side of the metal oxide device. The m-$ZrO_2$, which was widely known as a material preventing sintering, was applied on the metal oxide device. The ferrite loading rate and the thickness of the metal oxide device were increased from 10.67wt% to 20wt% and from 10mm to 15mm, respectively. The chemical reactor having two inlets was designed in order to supply the reactants uniformly to the metal oxide device. The second-experiment was lasted for 5 cycles, which was for 6 hours. The total amount of the $H_2$ production was 861.30ml. And cerium oxide($CeO_2$) device was used for increasing $H_2$ production rate. $CeO_2$ device had low thermal resistance, however, more $H_2$ production rate than $Fe_2O_4$ device.

선박 탑재 전자기기용 EMC 필터 개발 (Development of EMC filter for electronic equipments mounted on ships)

  • 본 논문에서는 선박 탑재 전자기기들이 외부의 전자파에 의한 장해와 과도 전압에 의해 전자파 간섭 또는 오동작을 방지하기 위한 목적으로 EMC 필터를 설계 및 제작하였다. 먼저 필터를 구성하는 인덕터의 경우 높은 투자율을 가진 Ni-Zn계열 페라이트 비드와 컨덴서의 경우 공진현상을 최대한 억제하기 위해 공진점이 없는 관통형 컨덴서를 이용하여 EMC 필터를 설계 제작하고, 그 특성을 평가하였다. 그 결과 0 kHz~1.5 GHz 광대역에서 25~70 dB의 우수한 감쇠특성을 얻을 수 있었으며, 과도진압의 경우, IEC 61000-4-4에서 규정하는 level 4에서 4 kV를 인가 시 600 V로 과도전압이 감쇠되는 특성을 얻음으로써, 선박 탑재 전자기기들 간의 전자파 간섭을 억제할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

MBE Growth and Electrical and Magnetic Properties of CoxFe3-xO4 Thin Films on MgO Substrate

  • Giant magnetoresistance (GMR), tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR), and magnetic random-access memory (MRAM) are currently active areas of research. Magnetite, Fe3O4, is predicted to possess as half-metallic nature, ~100% spin polarization (P), and has a high Curie temperature (TC~850 K). On the other hand, Spinel ferrite CoFe2O4 has been widely studies for various applications such as magnetorestrictive sensors, microwave devices, biomolecular drug delivery, and electronic devices, due to its large magnetocrystalline anisotropy, chemical stability, and unique nonlinear spin-wave properties. Here we have investigated the magneto-transport properties of epitaxial CoxFe3-xO4 thin films. The epitaxial CoxFe3-xO4 (x=0; 0.4; 0.6; 1) thin films were successfully grown on MgO (100) substrate by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The quality of the films during growth was monitored by reflection high electron energy diffraction (RHEED). From temperature dependent resistivity measurement, we observed that the Werwey transition (1st order metal-insulator transition) temperature increased with increasing x and the resistivity of film also increased with the increasing x up to $1.6{\Omega}-cm$ for x=1. The magnetoresistance (MR) was measured with magnetic field applied perpendicular to film. A negative transverse MR was disappeared with x=0.6 and 1. Anomalous Hall data will be discussed.

Magnetic and Electric Properties of Multiferroic Ni-doped BiFeO3

  • Multiferroic materials have attracted much attention due to their own fascinating fundamental physical properties and potential technological applications to magnetic/ferroelectric data storage systems, quantum electromagnets, spintronics, and sensor devices. Among single-phase multiferroic materials, $BiFeO_3$, in particular, has received considerable attention because the enhanced ferromagnetism was found by the Fe-site ion substitution with magnetic ions. The structural, the magnetic and the ferroelectric properties of polycrystalline $BiFe_{1-x}Ni_xO_3$ (x=0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and 0.05), which were prepared by the solid-state reaction and the rapid-sintering method, have been investigated. The x-ray diffraction patterns reveal that all the samples are in single phase and show rhombohedral structure with R3c space group. The magnetic properties are enhanced according to the doping content. The Ni-doped $BiFeO_3$ samples exhibit lossy P-E loop due to the oxygen vacancy. The leakage current density of Ni-doped samples (x=0.01 and 0.02) is increased by four orders of magnitude. On the other hand, the x=0.03 and 0.05 samples show the relative reduction of the leakage current.

  • The two-step water splitting thermochemical cycle is composed of the T-R (Thermal Reduction)and W-D (Water Decomposition)steps. The mechanism of this cycle is oxidation-reduction, which produces hydrogen. The reaction temperature necessary for this thermochemical cycle can be achieved by a dish-type solar thermal collector (Inha University, Korea). The purpose of this study is to validate a water splitting device in the field. The device is studied and fabricated by Kodama et al (2010, 2011). The validation results show that the foam device, when loaded with $NiFe_2O_4/m-ZrO_2$powder, was successfully achieved hydrogen production with 9 (10 with a Xe-light solar simulator, 2009, Kodama et al.) repeated cycles under field conditions. Two foam device used in this study were tested for validation before an experiment was performed. The lab scale ferrite-conversion rate was in the range of 24~76%. Two foam devices were designed to for structural stability in this study. In the results of the experiments, the hydrogen percentage of the weight of each foam device was 7.194 and $9.954{\mu}mol\;g^{-1}$ onaverage, and the conversion rates 4.49~29.97 and 2.55~58.83%, respectively.

ME 소자의 저주파 등가회로 모델링 (Electric Circuits Modeling of Magnetoelectric Bulk Composites in Low Frequency)

  • Magnetoelectric(ME) bulk composites with PZT-PNN-PZN/$Fe_2O_4$ were prepared by using a conventional ceramic methods and investigated on the ME voltage vs frequency of ac magnetic fields. We made the electric equivalent circuits by using the Maxwell-Wagner model and simulated the frequency dependence of ME voltage in low frequency region. ME devices were described by a series of two equivalent circuits of piezoelectric and magnetic, which have the relaxation time ${\tau}$ due to the interaction between ME device and load resistor. Equivalent circuit of piezoelectric material is independent of frequency. However ferrite magnetic materials have Debye absorption and dipolar dispersion, whose equivalent circuit is a function of frequency. Therefore we suggest the resistance in the equivalent circuit is proportion to $1+{\omega}^2{\tau}^2$ and the capacitance is in inverse proportion to $1+{\omega}^2{\tau}^2$ in the magnetic materials.

  • 전파통신의 급격한 발전에 따라 우리의 생활은 보다 편리하고 풍요로워졌다. 그러나 정밀 전기 전자 장치 및 제어 시스템 등이 경량화, 고속화, 소형화됨에 따라 외부의 EMI(전원장해)와 EFT(과도전압)에 의한 오동작, 인체에 미치는 영향 등의 많은 문제점을 야기 시키고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이에 대한 대책방법으로 10 MHz ~ 1.5 GHz에서 30 ~ 75 dB 이상의 노이즈 감쇠 특성과 IEC 61000-4-4의 level 4에서 4 kV의 과도전압을 인가시 600 V로 억제시키는 우수한 특성을 가진 대전력용 차단기 내의 EMC 필터를 설계 제작하였다.

  • $\textrm{BaCo}_{x}\textrm{Ti}_{x}\textrm{Fe}_{12-2x}\textrm{O}_{19}$($1.0\leq\textrm{x}\leq5.0$)의 치환량 x에 따른 마이크로파 유전특성을 조사하기 위하여 5-10GHz 대역에서의 공명주파수 fo 및 무부하인자 Qu를 wave guide 방법으로 측정하였다. 측정결과, 치환양의 증가에 따라 유전율은 14.7(x=1)에서 23.4(x=5)까지 증가하였으며 계산결과 loss tangent는 모두 $\textrm{10}^{-3}$정도로 작았다. 이러한 제특성은 저비용으로 제조가능한 CoTi 치환형 Barium ferrite가 공진기 안테나 등 마이크로파 소자에 응용이 가능한 유망한 재료임을 보여주었다.
