In this paper, we investigate the performance improvement by applying flow control to LonWorks-based network systems which support various communication media together with interpretable class of systems. To this end, we introduce a circular queue at each node of industrial network systems usually operated in open loop. Then we utilize the feedback information of the number of data in a queue, the data arriving interval in a queue and channel error to make the overall industrial network system in closed loop. We verify the improved performance of the network systems in view of throughput and fairness measures via the experimental results conducted in several field situation.

A 5Gbps CMOS adaptive feed-forward equalizer designed for backplane applications is described. The equalizer has adaptive feedback circuits to control the compensating gain of the equalizing filter, which uses a phase detector in clock recovery circuit to detect ISI (Inter-Symbol Interference) level. This makes the equalizer operate adaptively for a various channel length of backplane environments.

The geometric dimension and shape of microchannels that are formed during surface texturing are widely studied for applications in flow control, and drag and friction reduction. In this research, a new method for controlling the deformation of U channels during micro-rolling-based surface texturing was developed. Since the width of the U channels is almost constant, controlling the depth is essential. A calibration procedure of initial rolling gap, and proportional-integral PI controllers and a linear interpolation have been applied simultaneously to control the depth. The PI controllers drive the position of the pre-U grooved roll as well as the rolling gap. The relationship between the channel depth and rolling gap is linearized to create a feedback signal in the depth control system. The depth of micro channels is studied on A2021 aluminum lamina surfaces. Overall, the experimental results demonstrated the feasibility of the method for controlling the depth of microchannels.
The SSC-K system analysis code is under development at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) as a part of the KALIMER project. The SSC-K code is being used as the principal tool for analyzing a variety of off-normal conditions or accidents of the preliminary KALIMER design. The SSC-K code features a multiple-channel core representation coupled with a point kinetics model with reactivity feedback. It provides a detailed, one-dimensional thermal-hydraulic simulation of the primary and secondary sodium coolant circuits, as well as the balance-of-plant steam/water circuit. Recently a two-dimensional hot pool model was incorporated into SSC-K for analysis of thermal stratification phenomena in the hot pool. In addition, SSC-K contains detailed models for the passive decay heat removal system and a generalized plant control system. The SSC-K code has also been applied to the computational engine for an interactive simulation of the KALIMER plant. This paper presents an overview of the recent activities concerned with SSC-K code model development This paper focuses on both descriptions of the newly adopted thermal hydraulic and neutronic models, and applications to KALIMER analyses for typical anticipated transients without scram.

In this paper, we study the problem of controlling composite asynchronous sequential machines. The considered asynchronous machine consists of two input/state machines in cascade connection, where the output of the front machine is delivered to the input channel of the rear machine. The objective is to design a corrective controller realizing model matching such that the stable state behavior of the closed-loop system matches that of a reference model. Since the controller receives the state feedback of the rear machine only, there exists uncertainty about the present state of the front machine. We specify the existence condition for a corrective controller given the uncertainty. The design procedure for the proposed controller is described in a case study.

When the isolation between transmitter and receiver in Electronic Warfare equipment is not sufficient, the radiated noise jamming signal from the transmitter feeds back into the receiver and interferes with receiving radar pulse signal. Therefore pulse jamming and noise jamming can't be performed together in the same frequency bands. In this paper, we present a time-sharing TX/RX control technique of the switch matrix which inhibits the transmission of noise jamming signal by using the predicted gate of pulse train and also makes the corresponding channel filter operate to receive the radar pulse signal during the predicted gate pulse. This technique was implemented by EPLD and confirmed by experiment. The proposed technique enables the pulse jamming and the noise jamming to be simultaneously executed in multiple jamming environments.

In this paper, we propose a user selection method to maximize the sum-rate of downlink over opportunistic beamforming. The throughput of an opportunistic beamforming with non-uniformly distributed or a small number of users can decrease. In order to improve the throughput, we propose a scheduling method that does not use SINR or SNR but uses the effective channel gain of each user obtained from the SINR or SNR feedback. The proposed method makes it possible to select users flexibly according to the distribution of users. In numerical results, we show that the proposed methods improve the average sum-rate about 60% when users are distributed non uniformly.
A metal-fueled pool-type liquid metal fast reactor (LMFR) provides large margins to sodium boiling and fuel damage under accident conditions. The favorable passive safety results are obtained by both a reactivity feedback mechanism in the core and a passive decay heat removal system. Among the various reactivity feedbacks, the ones by a thermal expansion of a radial dimension of the core and by the control rod drivelines are strongly dependent on the flow conditions in the core and the hot pool, respectively. The effects of multidimensional thermal hydraulic characteristics on these reactivity feedbacks are investigated by the system-wide safety analysis code SSC-K with advanced thermal hydraulics models. Particularly a detailed three dimensional thermal hydraulics reactor core model is integrated into SSC-K for use in a whole system analysis of the passive safety aspects of LMR designs. The model provides fuel and cladding temperatures for every fuel pin in a reactor and coolant temperatures for every coolant sub-channel in the reactor.
In this paper, we study scheduling schemes for two-user two-way wireless relaying systems. Two transmission modes are considered: point-to-point direct transmission and two-way amplify-and-forward relaying. An optimal scheduling scheme that opportunistically selects the best transmission mode for each user is proposed to minimize the sum bit error rate (BER). The performance lower bound of the optimal scheduling scheme is analyzed, and closed-form expression of the lower-bound BER is derived. However, for optimal scheduling, the scheduler requires the knowledge of channel state information (CSI) of all links. To reduce the feedback information of CSI, we also propose a suboptimal scheduling scheme that selects the transmission mode using only the CSI of two direct links. Simulation results show that there are 4 dB to 8 dB gains for the proposed optimal and suboptimal schemes over the fixed direct transmission and fixed two-way relayed transmission scheme. The performance gap between the optimal and suboptimal scheduling schemes is small, which implies a good trade-off between implementation complexity and system performance.

Maximum Likelihood (ML) detection is well known to exhibit better bit-error-rate (BER) than many other detectors for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. However, ML detection has been shown a difficult problem due to its NP-hard problem. It means that there is no known algorithm which can find the optimal solution in polynomial-time. In this paper, Semi-Definite relaxation (SDR) is iteratively applied to ML detection problem. The probability distribution can be obtained by survival eigenvector out of the dominant eigenvalue term of the optimal solution. The probability distribution which is yielded by SDR is recurred to the received signal. Our approach can reach to nearly ML performance.
