  • This paper explores the classification performance of applying to support vector machines (SVMs) for the image classification problems. In this study, we extract the color, texture and shape features of natural images and compare the performance of image classification using each individual feature and integrated features. The experiment results show that classification accuracy on the basis of color feature is better than that based on texture and shape features and the results of the integrating features also provides a better and more robust performance than individual feature. In additions, we show that the proposed classifier of SVM based approach outperforms BPNN to corporate the image classification problems.

  • Recently, support vector machine has been widely used in various application fields due to its superiority of classification performance comparing with decision tree and neural network. Since support vector machine is basically designed for the binary classification problem, output coding method to analyze the classification result of multiclass binary classifier is used for the application of support vector machine into the multiclass problem. However, previous feature selection method for output coding based support vector machine found the features to improve the overall classification accuracy instead of improving each classification accuracy of each classifier. In this paper, we propose the novel feature selection method to find the features for maximizing the classification accuracy of each binary classifier in output coding based support vector machine. Experimental result showed that proposed method significantly improved the classification accuracy comparing with previous feature selection method.

  • In this paper we propose a new feature vector for recognition of the facial expression based on Gibbs distributions which are well suited for representing the spatial continuity. The extracted feature vectors are invariant under translation rotation, and scale of an facial expression imege. The Algorithm for recognition of a facial expression contains two parts: the extraction of feature vector and the recognition process. The extraction of feature vector are comprised of modified 2-D conditional moments based on estimated Gibbs distribution for an facial image. In the facial expression recognition phase, we use discrete left-right HMM which is widely used in pattern recognition. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, experiments for recognition of four universal expression (anger, fear, happiness, surprise) was conducted with facial image sequences on Workstation. Experiment results reveal that the proposed scheme has high recognition rate over 95%.

  • This study presents fault diagnosis of low speed bearing using support vector machine (SVM). The data used in the experiment was acquired using acoustic emission (AE) sensor and accelerometer. The aim of this study is to compare the performance of fault diagnosis based on AE signal and vibration signal with same load and speed. A low speed test rig was developed to simulate various defects with shaft speeds as low as 10 rpm under several loading conditions. In this study, component analysis was also performed to extract the feature and reduce the dimensionality of original data feature. Moreover, the classification for fault diagnosis was also conducted using original data feature without feature extraction. The result shows that extracted feature from AE sensor gave better performance in faults classification.

  • Drone, which refers to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), industries are improving rapidly and exceeding existing level of remote controlled aircraft models. Also, they are applying automation and cloud network technology. Recently, the ability of drones can bring serious threats to public safety such as explosives and unmanned aircraft carrying hazardous materials. On the purpose of reducing these kinds of threats, it is necessary to detect these illegal drones, using acoustic feature extraction and classifying technology. In this paper, we introduce sound feature vector extraction method by harmonic feature extraction method (HLA). Feature vector extraction method based on HLA make it possible to distinguish drone sound, extracting features of sound data. In order to assess the performance of distinguishing sounds which exists in outdoor environment, we analyzed various sounds of things and real drones, and classified sounds of drone and others as simulation of each sound source.

  • Feature vectors for conventional speech recognition are usually extracted in full frequency band. Therefore, each sub-band contributes equally to final speech recognition results. In this paper, feature Teeters are extracted indepedently in each sub-band. The cepstral resolution of each sub-band feature is controlled for the optimal speech recognition. For this purpose, different dimension of each sub-band ceptral vectors are extracted based on the multi-band approach, which extracts feature vector independently for each sub-band. Speech recognition rates and clustering quality are suggested as the criteria for finding the optimal combination of sub-band Teeter dimension. In the connected digit recognition experiments using TIDIGITS database, the proposed method gave string accuracy of 99.125%, 99.775% percent correct, and 99.705% percent accuracy, which is 38%, 32% and 37% error rate reduction relative to baseline full-band feature vector, respectively.

  • Beam string structure (BSS) is introduced as a new type of hybrid prestressed string structures. The composition and mechanics features of BSS are discussed. The main principles of wavelet packet transform (WPT), principal component analysis (PCA) and support vector machine (SVM) have been reviewed. WPT is applied to the structural response signals, and feature vectors are obtained by feature extraction and PCA. The feature vectors are used for training and classification as the inputs of the support vector machine. The method is used to a single one-way arched beam string structure for damage detection. The cable prestress loss and web members damage experiment for a beam string structure is carried through. Different prestressing forces are applied on the cable to simulate cable prestress loss, the prestressing forces are calculated by the frequencies which are solved by Fourier transform or wavelet transform under impulse excitation. Test results verify this method is accurate and convenient. The damage cases of web members on the beam are tested to validate the efficiency of the method presented in this study. Wavelet packet decomposition is applied to the structural response signals under ambient vibration, feature vectors are obtained by feature extraction method. The feature vectors are used for training and classification as the inputs of the support vector machine. The structural damage position and degree can be identified and classified, and the test result is highly accurate especially combined with principle component analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose a texture feature-based language identification using Gabor feature and wavelet-domain BDIP (block difference of inverse probabilities) and BVLC (block variance of local correlation coefficients) features. In the proposed method, Gabor and wavelet transforms are first applied to a test image. The wavelet subbands are next denoised by Donoho's soft-thresholding. The magnitude operator is then applied to the Gabor image and the BDIP and BVLC operators to the wavelet subbands. Moments for Gabor magnitude image and each subband of BDIP and BVLC are computed and fused into a feature vector. In classification, the WPCA (whitened principal component analysis) classifier, which is usually adopted in the face identification, searches the training feature vector most similar to the test feature vector. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields excellent language identification with rather low feature dimension for a document image DB.

  • In a distribution of digital image, there is a serious problem that is a distribution of the altered image by a forger. For the problem solution, this paper proposes a median filtering (MF) image forensic decision algorithm using a feature vector according to the pixel value's gradients. In the proposed algorithm, AR (Autoregressive) coefficients are computed from pixel value' gradients of original image then 1th~6th order coefficients to be six feature vector. And the reconstructed image is produced by the solution of Poisson's equation with the gradients. From the difference image between original and its reconstructed image, four feature vector (Average value, Max. value and the coordinate i,j of Max. value) is extracted. Subsequently, Two kinds of the feature vector combined to 10 Dim. feature vector that is used in the learning of a SVM (Support Vector Machine) classification for MF (Median Filtering) detector of the altered image. On the proposed algorithm of the median filtering detection, compare to MFR (Median Filter Residual) scheme that had the same 10 Dim. feature vectors, the performance is excellent at Unaltered, Averaging filtering ($3{\times}3$) and JPEG (QF=90) images, and less at Gaussian filtering ($3{\times}3$) image. However, in the measured performances of all items, AUC (Area Under Curve) by the sensitivity and 1-specificity is approached to 1. Thus, it is confirmed that the grade evaluation of the proposed algorithm is 'Excellent (A)'.

  • This paper proposes the method to extract new feature vectors using the difference between the cepstrum for static characteristics and delta cepstrum for dynamic characteristics in speaker recognition (SR). The difference vector (DV) which it proposes from this paper is containing the static and the dynamic characteristics simultaneously at the intermediate characteristic vector which uses the deference between the static and the dynamic characteristics and as the characteristic vector which is new there is a possibility of doing. Compared to the conventional method, the proposed method can achieve new feature vector without increasing of new parameter, but only need the calculation process for the difference between the cepstrum and delta cepstrum. Experimental results show that the proposed method has a good performance more than 2.03%, on average, compared with conventional method in speaker identification (SI).
